My Happy Marriage (light novel)
| It's not sickly sweet, it's more like there's a lack of nuance with regards to the emotional abuse, the conflicts, the resolutions and the general happenings with the political drama going on. It's very blatant with it's emotional manipulation, and it's saving grace is how well Miyo is, as a tragic character. This episode was really satisfying, but man they dragged that shit out, for maximum effect on the audience. You're anxious, wanting them to hurry TF up, almost all damn episode. "I just knocked him out, let's hurry", proceeds to fuck around once again. Man definitely walked the rest of the way as well lol |

| People will complain about anything.... I'm not even fazed anymore by posts like this. You witnessed an episode where a woman gets terrorized by her "family members" ffs. How is that sweet? You witnessed a father go to great lengths(even putting his son in danger) just so he can maintain power. |

| I've read some of the comments and just wanted to say if "too sweet" means an actual healthy and wholesome romance between too nice and kind characters where the main girl needs to be saved (at times like these because come on, who would get out of such a horrible situation like that by themselves?) and him acting like prince charming... I'd say it's exactly what we need. At least I feel this way. Because somehow all media, fairytales turned into this "we need strong female characters who don't need a man" and if there is a man he's trashed and useless. And I know it's not like this in anime but that's also why I love them (and it's not always like this). Plus I don't think Miyo is a damsel in distress. This story is a little like Cinderella and Cinderella is strong... Much like Miyo. She endured all these horrible things and she is still able to be kind and just wants to be happy. She's strong for still being able to be kind and like Koji pointed out in the last episode... Even after all of this Miyo would still be grieving if something happened to Kaya. That's the kind of person she is. And that takes a lot of strength. And people who say it's unrealistic can be happy they never endured anything difficult and still tried to be kind and care about others. It's sad that in today's world that would be considered weak or unrealistic. The only unrealistic aspect about this is the super-powers part... The rest isn't. Personally due to that I'd probably consider it a fairytale. Plus after all Miyo has been through she deserves so many sweet and beautiful moments for the rest of her life (but it might be wishful thinking to believe she can have that yet with everything that's going on). |

| They're obviously trying to make you feel for the good guys, further emphasized by making you hate the bad guys. That's fine with me, I'm gullible for this stuff. The slight issue, or just a nitpick rather, that I have is that said bad guys are just TOO comically evil. They're engineered solely for the purpose of hating them so that in contrast, our main lead couple looks angelic and basked in rays of heavenly light. These are villains that just want to destroy the world just because they can. Like almost literally, parties are vying for Miyo because of the power she holds. It just comes down to I WANT MORE POWER. As to why she's hated by her step mom and step sis, idfk. Shunned perhaps for being the daughter of a past wife, or maybe having no magic abilities really is sh*t in this world, but just downright treated like a slave? Felt kind of random, that it was just written into the script to make you feel compassion for Miyo. Maybe their hatred of her will be explained later down the line, but right now it seems like they hate her because that's what they want the audience to feel. But while you'd probably roll your eyes before, it's probably fine now, with the sympathetic antagonist being almost common. At times it's even forced like in demon slayer or other shounen where they shove in a demon's backstory right before they die in an attempt to make you feel for them and make the show seem deeper than it is. It does work sometimes, but it can get old fast. Having an antagonist you can feel for generally does improve the story as a whole, but sometimes it just feels nice and simple to have a plain all-out baddie. The problem is, Miyo's step-mom and sister and everyone else against Miyo are being shoved in the viewers' faces and being told "HATE THEM, LOOK HOW EVIL THEY ARE, HATE THEM SO IT WILL MAKE KOODO-SAN AND MEEYO-SAN LOOK EVEN MORE BOOTIFUL!!!!" Again, this is just a nitpick though. This show still kinda slaps. |

| I mean, yeah, when somethint's too sweet most people (me as well) actually get... uhm... overloaded with wholesomess? Which at times can be akward or just boring. Nothing wrong with those kinda shows tbh, I do find most romance too sweet for my likings but that's probably because I'm not the target audience (Japanese youngs and teens). |
