Yikes, Barbara isn't afraid to punish others when she sees a reason too but I don't think anyone is surprised at this point.

Overall pretty thrilling episode and once again, Emilico shows the most amount of human emotions out of the cast. I like how she takes action regardless of the risks ahead. What a cliffhanger too.

I love the development of Kate’s character since season 1. Way more emotive and expressive now. Pleasantly surprised with how she confronted the star bearers, didn’t go her way but still a nice job. Also love her interactions with John. Poor guy just wanted to help his crush up the stairs lol.

The literal curtain has been pulled on the research team, looks like they might be hiding some things. Can’t wait for next week.

Now the story is picking up.

The only that could fight Kate out of the Star Bearers is probably Benjamin.

Oh yes, the curing soot sickness parts.

I could swear that the shed part was later.

This episode focused mostly on Kate to show off her soot power and her intellect. I love the cast and their interactions, SOL moments in this show are cute and always welcome.

No Robe-sama this week but they made some impact on Star Bearers and Kate.

John is very strong, he basically get hit by that heavy wall and still ok. I think Kate should be more serious about him.

7: 54 and 7:59 I know that Emilico is doing her best to express how mad Kate is but that face is too adorable.

It's time for 名探偵ケイト (Detective Kate) to get on the case. The date/investigation was great.

The way they "cleanse" people with soot sickness seems like torture. And the pipe cleaning is on a whole other level.

Kate is directly into the investigation now and there will be sure a lot of surprises to this case, it's already tense, I liked that environment exploration with John, that end scene though lmao, he sure did a mistake here, he needs to stop using his force for everything xD

The soot investigation into the phantom and scorches, is a lot deeper and the punishment more inflicting on the Star Bearers, and unless they risk their positions, they must deal with the problem fast and lay blame to those whom have caused this ruckus. Of course, given Edward's instructions to "be wary of Kate", the Star Bearers being especially pressured on her because of him, this is blasphemy to frame the convicts as they are, that compared to Christopher, they are especially useless as mere mouthpieces.

Given Kate's outburst towards the Star Bearers, she is just as annoyed if she wants to become one, but to solve the phantom issue, and she'll move forward one step. The perpetrator whom they call "Master Robe", with little infodump to go on, this case is only at its starting legs.

The Belle twins' punishment is truly severe, but for Kate and Emilico, trying to find clues through Mia and Rosemary will prove crucial to re-enacting the day's events, but for the latter, the soot sickness is too much that her treatments as best as they can come up with, may not be enough to save her. Instead, going around to the places affected is the next best option...and John has to follow her with Shaun's reluctance.

A small hut as a secret base is nice...but it has to be the research people conducting some experiment, and it's clearly something that they don't want to be found out. What is Emilico's fate now?

Kate talking to the Star Bearers was a pretty cool scene to watch, especially with the camera movement. A nice episode

The cleansing and the punishing of living dolls definitely seem inhumane. Imagine drinking water to the point that your stomach is full, then more water gets forced down your throat... kinda like drowning.

They look kinda sus tho
Graduated High School in May of 2022. Summer vacation has finally arrived. I have once again regained the power of a new anime fan, being able to watch multiple anime episodes in a day. Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... College has begun as of Monday, August 30, 2022, so you won't be seeing me much around these parks. See you on weekends, I guess... School me is back. Sigh! I'll at least try for one anime a day with all this course load.

This episode was MUCH better than the last one. It really felt detective-like and the mystery really shined throughout the whole episode. Kate's time to shine and show that she is not the culprit thanks to Barbara, she's been given the chance to investigate the real culprit. So, it's time to search the whole place and make a map out of it at the same time. Meeting up with John made the episode funnier thanks to how dumb and brute he is. The fact that he managed to destroy a whole wall makes him just incredibly strong for a shadow but sadly too dumb aswell. He even got hit with it and the rest managed to get inbetween the frame. I'm not sure why Olly ran to Emilico but that's a great way to end the episode. Forgot to mention that Kate getting "mad" at the Star Bear's was the highlight of the episode. The slow but strong soundtrack getting louder each second and Kate's sooth jumping left and right was just so badass.

Aftermath of coffee breaking episode. The twins are punished and they are to cleaned the big soot room. The other shadows are being treated. And the star bearers, being sus to Kate. And Kate volunteered herself to investigate the phantom incindent and find the culprit.

And the second half is about searching clues around the shadows house. Then Kate and Emilico starts to investigate things like the patients that got soot sickness and with the help of the map. The operation is going smoothly. And then they meet John and Shaun, and the two of them helped Kate and Emilico to find the culprit. And some funny moments like the slap and stick John which is nice.

At the end they seen the sus old shack, so when they tried to open it the door and the wall collapsed. Thankfully it has windows so the team is safe, except John but he is robust. And they find the research team. Overall great episode

I always wondered that too. Whenever an episode releases it seems like many of the first votes are always 1s or 2s. Very strange. I don't get how an episode like this could be rated a 1/5 to begin unless it totally diverged from the manga, was legit trash, or was rated by a dedicated hater of the show. lol

Kate sure wasn't fucking around during the confrontation with the Star Bearers. I'm liking the detective vibes this episode had as they investigate the mystery surrounding what happened in the previous episode.

That water contraption they use to cleanse the Soot Sickness from Living Dolls made me incredibly uncomfortable, which was undoubtedly the intent.

For me, the most interesting part of this episode was Kate's confrontation with the Star Bearers and just how well she stood their ground and told them what's what. While such a confrontational approach probably isn't conducive to making friends among the Shadows, but I think it could still pay off for her in the long-term if is able to resolve the mystery. It definitely also helps her cause that she is able to produce enough Soot to make stalactites, given that Soot production is fairly significant in determing a Shadow's status/how they are perceived by their fellow Shadows.

The mystery stuff isn't interesting me quite as much, as it still feels incredibly obvious to me that Christopher has to be responsible for it all cos of the Chekhov's Gun principle. Still, seeing Kate and co try to piece it together should at least be more entertaining than seeing the Living Dolls fight a Scorch again.

I really like this anime so far. I do enjoy the amount of portrayal of secondary characters, particularly the Star Bearers who are a colorful bunch.

Some people here seem disturbed by the "water pumping treatment". Do keep in mind that this is the Victorian era, and medicine back then was sometimes pretty nuts. Also, the Living Dolls were considered manufactured automatons rather than humans - it's like smacking the machine a couple of times when it is faulty.

Kate clapped back.
Rosemary is tied up like a stuffed turkey.
And John pulled down the side of a house.

I have a feeling the star bearers don't know about w/e Oliver is up to. Who was that lying down? Looked like Mia.

I can't complain bro, the storyline is just getting better and this episode definitely offered a lot to talk about.

The Belles are being tortured right now that I don't know how long they (the living dolls) will last. Even Rosemary...Euphoria flashbacks is making me refrain to elaborate. And yo Kate snapped hard that the Star Bearers froze for a bit, now her and Emiliko has leverage.

Also one more thing to point out is Kate's voice when she talked to John, yo it has to be Akari Kitou trying her hard to replicate Emiliko's voice because I like it. Anyways, they now discover Oliver and his team's base for their science stuff, and a nice cliffhanger to cap it off. This sequel low-key is going hard this season.

The way this episode ended is funny when you've read the manga. How this episode got cut-off as the cliff-hanger, that is!
It looked like Olly was about to go for the execution at Emilico lmao.

this episode was better finally. Pretty obvious at this point who the robe guy is, I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't that christopher guy cause they've been hinting at it for 2 episodes now. They probably expelled him as a star bearer cause he found out about grandpa's plan, wanted to save the children and once grandpa found out about his knowledge he wanted to expel/kill him but failed. He wants to end shadows house same as Kate

This anime does exploration a lot better than it does action, evidently.

Emilico got charged right at the end. I'm guessing she's once again being targetted (possibly as a "test subject") due to her association with Kate.
