There she is!!

Awesome, best short I have seen. Cute romance even though not a word is spoken and 100x better than 99% of romance anime goes. Everyone should see it!

Having just watched it I thought it was great 9/10 from me (and I rarely give that high score)

On Your Mark is one of my faves. It's a short by Ghibli, and awful pretty....
Well one thing I've learned from this experience, is that a princess is still a princesss even when she is naked.

I've started to watch Hetalia. I wish Social Studies class was taught this way back in the day. Pretty funny take on the countries around the 1940s. They've personified the countries.

Love the short epidodes.

Well, I'm a huge Di Gi Charat fan so I definitely have to put those on my short list of shorts. The original shorts that aired as part of Wonderful and the later TV specials were both very twisted and funny. I actually fansubbed a bunch of it back in the days of VHS.

Sexy Commando Gaiden, Sugoi-yo! Masaru-san is another favorite of mine (and another product of the Wonderful program). In fact, it's one of the few shounen fighting shows I care for.

Both Oruchuban Ebichu and Koume-chan Ga Iku! (Here Comes Koume!) were both part of the Modern Love's Silliness program and quite a bit of fun. I actually prefer Koume to Ebichu. I actually helped with the Ebichu fansubs (the Masaru-san ones too), but could never get anyone else interested in Koume.

Android Ana Maico 2010 that was part of the Anime Complex anthology series is great. It's like WKRP with a robot. Way better than the manga, which was cliche-ridden and utterly forgettable.

Also from Anime Complex, Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety is a very good show. It does an excellent job of being sweet and funny in turns.

Thanks for those Jeleinen - like me you do love the old ones too - I will just begin to watch Sexy Commando and move on too Andriod 2010, but finding it a bit tricky to find Koume-chan Ga IKU!

....and will add Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety to our relations list

Wowie! Another fan of Ebichu! And slenderfall-san, you have yet to watch it as well as Momoiro Sisters...old school ecchi and hilarious! Plus, they are less than 15 mins. per episode.

I just finished La Maison en Petit Cubes and must say... this is the first time I experienced Art in anime. For some reason it really reminded me of 'The Old Man and the Sea' even though the only things they have in common is that they both contain an old man and a sea... I'm sure The Old Man and the Sea could be portrayed very artistically... perhaps their greatness are comparable? :)

Haven't seen all that many shorts...yet.
Need to check some of the ones mentioned here.

But so far I'd say
Detroit Metal City
Sexy Commando Gaiden
Dogs: Bullets & Carnage (I want a series)
Fireball (so nonsensical you can't help like it)
Genius Party and Genius Party Beyond (especially Moondrive was great)

and ofc Higepiyo and Hetalia Axis Powers

It already have been. I'm not a particular fan of Petrov but he's appreciated as one of the greatest temporary animators.

My favourites are:

La Maison en Petits Cubes (one of the best anime of any length I have seen)
Pictures at an Exhibition (if you are counting Winter Days and Yurumates as shorts, then this counts as well)
REC (Not perfect, but nice and enjoyable, suprisingly mature as well)
Water Brain (15 minutes, so it just counts)

Although it's not a true short, I really enjoyed Pale Cocoon as well.

Looks like I'm going to have to check out Binchou-tan as well. It had a moeblob-thing on the cover and a relatively low rating, so it didn't seem like a likely candidate for a buried treasure, but if slender enjoyed it, I suppose there is more to it then what meets the eye. I generally don't pay attention to the ratings, but low rated moeblob/ecchi shows are generally rated low for a reason.

La Maison on Petit Cubes aside...

I love Yamamura Kouji, especially Inaka Isha. Based on a short story by Kafka. The animation is great.
Also Muybridge's Strings. An hommage to animation. Clever and stunning.

Hotchi Kazuhiro has made gorgeously animated shorts, light hearted and colorful, but his best one is a much darker short called Anima, which struck me deeply.

I also love Morimoto Kouji. Especially his surreal shorts like Dimension Loop. I actually prefer him over Otomo, which i think it's pretty similar.
