I tried reading the manga but the art style really throws me off. I'm trying again because I absolutely love the story! It's been quite some time since I've watched a shoujo as amazing as this one ♡ one of my favorites by far.

I didn't really like the art early on in the manga either. It greatly improves as the series goes on though.

Okay - thank you, that is good to know!! I will push on through because the story is just too great! :)

I really really loved this remake, wow. I think I like the arrangement of the episodes much better than the original anime, and the additions to the story made it work out well for a longer series.
In the last ep or so, there was the scene with Shigure and a man, can't remember if it was Kyo's master or Hatori, but they discussed the reveal as their "last chance". This is dark, and as someone who hasn't read the manga, only watching the 2001 series, I'm PUMPED to figure out the mystery to the zodiac family. The next season will be completely new and original to me and I'm so freaking excited.

Really good first season. This worked really well as a end point as well. I'm guessing the dinner where like every character ever shows up was partly anime original but it worked well for the ending. They also threw in some new characters at the end there. I'm looking forward to the new season in 2020

Kou ans his Shisho : I was longing to see this bond and honestly it left me touched. I was happy that Kou had such a father figure in his life ( something most zodiac spirits lack ). Their friendly fights and banter and the love between them reminded me of Tohru and her mom.
My admiration for Tohru is increasing by each episode.
Now I'm waiting for Yuki to grow and learn to be the man he promised to be.

// Also Machi and Rin ! <3

// gonna be more serious drama plot now

// 10/10 easily for me since im biased but im happy that they even make a remake of this T_T

Great finale. Kyou is my favorite boy so I’m glad he had a great arc and great resolution.

Overall I loved this show. It’s a great shoujo for sure and is unique with the underlying plot. I’d give it a 8/10 for this season.

I’m really curious to see how the romance will develop because I feel like there will be tension with Kyou once Yuki and Tohru finally get together. Not to mention what’s going on with the curse and the black haired fuck boi? And why is he such a fucking asshole? Why does everyone listen to him? What is Shigure planning? Is he in a relationship with black haired fuck boi? Isn’t he underage? He’s so young yet he’s the master of the family? I’m sure all those questions will be answered eventually, but I have so many questions!

Such an emotional rollercoaster. Episode 24 and 25 were definitely my favs.
I'm so happy Fruits Basket got reanimated. Honestly, so many things have improved and I'm still equally emotional. The timing throughout the season was a little weird, but overall loved this adaption.
(Rip to the dramatic decrease in art aft 9:40 tho). Feeling some dread for the second season with that ending, but SO EXCITED.

ALSO SHISHO MAKES MY HEART HURT. Voice actor and him are just so warm.

Sorry to be a downer among all the positive comments, but I struggled to keep an open mind these last few episodes. Even if they hit the beats, I don't feel like they actually brought out the emotions or had the impact that Kyo's form needed. Much like a slideshow, it's "here's sad thing, be sad" without making the most of the development. I don't quite know what it is, but it's awkward. And I have the strangest feeling whoever's behind this is Yuki biased. Best thing about the season was seeing a glimpse of Rin tbh.

Akito's exact age was never outright stated in the manga, but he's supposed to be older than Kagura (who's 18 in the beginning of the series), but younger than Ritsu (who's around 21-22), so he's most likely 19-20 years old at the current point in the story.

As for your other questions, you're right - they'll all be answered eventually.

Awesome, thank you for the info.

Just finished, overall it was a good watch but for some reason I couldn't stop comparing it to the 2001 version. There are things that the 2001 version did better and there are things this version did better. The animation in this adaptation is of course superior, but that is to be expected after 18 years since the 2001. I miss the original voice actors, I understand why they hired a brand new cast and they did a fine job, but personally I felt 2001 seiyuus felt more true to the characters. Additionally, I don't know why but for some reason I couldn't connect emotionally as I did with the first anime adaptation. For example, for me the Kyo arc felt a little rushed here whereas the 2001 ver. left plenty of room for introspection and tension.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the 2nd season as I have no idea what's gonna happen next from this point on since I never read the manga. In the meantime I think I'm gonna re-watch the 2001 series, and I recommend you do too.

but uh yeah...I don't remember if the original anime ever explained it either....but Kyo's rosary is such a plot hole....especially in an earlier episode when he transformed into a cat the rosary had plain fallen off and cat spirit did not happen.... ah well....I can either try to reread the manga or wait for season 2 to cover it....but since I'm so la-- ER I mean busy....

It's not a plot hole. The bracelet coming off only triggers his true form if it is taken off while he's human. If he's in Cat form the curse is busy making him a Cat so he's not gonna turn into his true form. There's also some sort of buffer time built in once he transforms back to human where he can put the bracelet back on because he always transforms back to human eventually in either Cat or true form. It's actually never stated in the story what the exact conditions of the bracelet and his transformation are, but it never breaks the rules of its own universe, so it's not a plot hole.

The feels.

Fruits basket holds a special place in my heart. The first series was decent but left things unfinished and so it is one of the few anime I actually read the anime of.

I can happily say that this adaptation doe's a better job and looks to actually be concluded.

I have watched a fair few emotional anime but there are no others that explores the characters in such depth to me. I understand all of them bit by bit and love them all.

10/10 for me~

What a wonderful season finale.
I normally don't like romances but honestly fruits's basket is an exception here. Despite it being a romance, I feel like they don't want to shove it in our faces every opportunity they get. Instead they throw in tidbits of romance here and there and it feels all kinda natural as a result imo.

I also really really liked how the side characters aren't just „there“. No, they are actual characters with well thought-out story arc's dedicated to them (sometimes even spanning multiple episodes) and the screentime isn't just Thoru-Kyo-Yuki. Like legit imo. both of Thoru's best friends are among the best written characters in this series- this season even.
Sure there where some tropes here and there, mainly Kagura but even she had her moments.

Really can't complain much about this anime. I am really looking forward to the 2nd season! 9/10

As a huge fan of the manga and a great disliker of 2001 anime, I like the way this adaptation goes at this point. There are few changes of manga in this episode like flashbacks and Tohru hesitating to go back, but these are really minor changes and didn't really change the stories flow like 2001 anime. I loved the Rin's design and we get to see the new characters Machi and Kakeru.
Guess I will go and read the manga millionth time.

These last few eps have been some powerful shit... best eps in the series along with the Uo backstory episodes.

I dunno what to rate this show. I found the melodrama a bit too... heavy-handed sometimes, but many of the tragedies and struggles a lot of the characters went through resonated with me. It's a story about empathy, and I respect that. I think I'd like it more if it didn't feel a little tonally off sometimes, like transitioning between heavy-handed drama to quirky slapstick anime-bullshit comedy. Sometimes the comedy was amusing enough to get a chuckle out of me; other times it made me cringe.

It was a good show, but I still prefer Clannad.

Oh, new characters for s2. Nice.

It was good to see more about Kyo's backstory.

Fruits Basket s1 really surprised me several times despite that I find some episodes (2 or 3) a bit annoying. The drama was pretty good except for Momiji's forced backstory and that annoying kid that I forgot his name. Kyou and Haru best boys ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

7/10 for the anime.

I never would have imagined when randomly picking up this series(the old one) around two and a half years ago that a remake would be made!!
I loved the old one and I loved the manga I red after as well but the series was old and not talked about so I kind of gloss over it a bit after
I am forever grateful to this remake for reintroducing me and so many other people to the story and making me more invested than ever before!!
I truly do love this series and I can't wait to see this beautiful story animated to its entirety for the first time
For me definitely a 10/10

Having not watched the original; I felt like there was still a lot of room half way through the season that could have been dropped in order to finish the rest of the story in one season's length. I understand the premise of the show being an extremely in depth character study, but regardless could have been condensed to one season in my opinion.
There is still so much left on the table, specifically with Akito and Shiguraki that I feel obliged to watch the second season.
I really did enjoy this show despite feeling it was unnecessarily dragged on. If this can actually be considered 'slice of life' it will be my first completed 'slice of life' show. I didn't think I would enjoy it enough to finish but I am glad I did.
Does the original fit the entire story of the source material? I am interested in watching it now.

I'm glad that you are invested in the series. That being said...the manga is 23 volumes and 136 chapters long, we've covered roughly 40 chapters in this first season. There is literally no way they could have fit the entire story into one 25 episode season. Even 50 episodes won't be enough. 75 would be the most realistic amount of episodes to comfortably fit everything though. :)

Also, every episode and character interaction really is super important for later character growth and development and for overall plot progression, so they couldn't cut out whole chapters and episodes worth of character backstories, introductions, or general content. Furuba is legitimately all about the relationship and bonds between characters - it is a central theme of the series. So they all need to be there.

While this first season is the introduction to the series and contains the most slice of life like elements to it, the rest of the series is going to be more family drama and romance based. Overall, I tend to consider Furuba a drama rather than a Slice of Life series.

As for the OG anime, it didn't cover all of the source material, it only had one season and the manga was still ongoing. It covered roughly the same amount as this first season did, just without all the foreshadowing and some character's personalities were mishandled (Shigure and Yuki). It was also much more comedy based than the manga and this reboot series is.

Really nice ending for S1.
Once you grow fond of the series, it just keeps you in, despite the slow pacing, you just start to enjoy the hell of it, warms you inside~~

Yuuki won some points in the latter part of this episode, not bad, but Kyo is the best boy IMO.
Kagura annoys me to no end at times tbh, like bitch, just let it go, no one wants a clingy girl like that, Tohru is gonna steal Kyo from under your clutches and leave you wrecked for sure!

I'm finally free from this nightmare of a series. The premise sounded honestly great, a bunch of flawed people coming in terms with whatever burdens them in their life. Except a whole two cour season managed to offer nothing aside from a bunch of cardboard cutouts with bad sob stories instead of actual character writing. Idk who are all those random people and why should I sympathise with them, when the show doesn't do anything at all to make them interesting enough to care. 2/10.

We don't know the exact amount yet. Yuki's English VA said 63 episodes in total in an interview at a con. He later retracted the statement on Twitter, but that seemed like an oddly specific number to just throw out.

Regardless of that though, three seasons is probably the most likely, since the first season got us about 1/3 of the way through the source material. A 75 episode count feels tge most likely and realistic to me. But we still don't know for sure yet.

Overall decent show tho I'm not sure if I will be following it in the future. Most of the cast was quite likeable but the ones that were annoying were really annoying (i.e Kagura). Comedy was mostly unfunny but it had its moments.
The show was too melodramatic for my tastes, I often found drama heavy-handed and overbearing that by the second cour I became almost completely desensitized to it and would often roll my eyes while watching it. I did care about Kyo's and Kisa situation in the second cour tho.

In overall, I really did enjoy this season of fruits basket. I really like how they mixed a bit of the comedic factor into the story (I'm a sucker for comedy bruhhh). A great ending to a great series. Can't believe I skipped over this when I first heard over it, because I thought the premise seemed weird. Now it's one of my favourites.

This series has been such a ride. Full of emotions ranging all the way from laughter to sadness. It was very emotional and I think I enjoyed every second of it. Tohru in particular has become quite an inspiration for me. The way she deals with everything she's gone through in life, and is still smiling and bright and cheerful and happy, and especially grateful for everything has really shown me how I could be better. Life seems so much better to go through when you can be grateful for the things you have, and not regretful over the things you've lost or the things you want or can't have. I also love Hatori and how selfless he is. Now that's true love.

I'm glad I got to finish this before season 2 started airing, and I'm really glad I didn't decide to just skip this over and watch it later and then season 2 after so now I can follow season 2 as it airs every week!

Truth be told, there wasn't much this episode, except for more background on Kazuma and Kyou and some mysterious thing going on with Yuki which I think are going to be important in the coming season. But I loved it nonetheless, seeing all the characters come together and celebrate, and still with some foreboding as to what is coming in season 2.

Easily a 10/10. I would say I'm gonna miss them, but then again, season 2 is coming! So excited and can't wait!

I wouldn't blame Kazuma about treating his grandpa that way. He was still a kid back then. He grew up and raised Kyo very well. That's commendable. Awwwweee at Haru, he really cares for other people too. And Tohru's reaction at Yuki was really funny lol! There will be new characters in Season 2? I can't wait to watch the available episodes.
