I really love the look of this. Usually not too big a fan of CG adaptations of anime but I think they did a really good job to capture the looks, feel and movement of the characters. Can't wait to see the full thing! :D

So after that CG concept special a few years ago they actually plan to release a feature film.

I prefer 2D animation but the CG looks really good and I will definitely be looking forward to watching it!

Great trailer too; I've watched it about 4 times now; the nostalgic buildup at the beginning, the CG models and the always great OST.

I do have to agree that the CG for this film looks amazing - just compare it to the 3DCG short from a few years ago and that wasn't bad.

Looks more like Pixar than anime which is good because they don't force that stupid low framerate to "make it look like normal anime".

The CG is really impressive in this; it actually looks like a movie! And with the excellent past decade of Lupin TV series, the franchise is on fire and this will hopefully be the next feather in its prestigious cap.

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Looks well done, but also absolutely horrible. Pixar has destroyed American animation, I don't want Japan following.

the animation does look good for cg but yea idk i think i just prefer the traditional animation for lupin. These cg transitions for these classic animes are quite becoming a thing aren't they? o.o

It's terrifying, is Fujiko disguised as a pixar-tier gf in this movie?

The 3DCG short from a few years ago sure has come a long way...

Looks really good. I think everyone prefers traditionally animated Lupin, but this looks enjoyable. It's sure to bring in a wider audience, which is great.

Can we get a US theatrical release please?

Really mixed thought on this especially way too watered down than even pink jacket. And more disappointed we didn't get blue jacket movie like all other jackets got. Perhaps maybe its too early to ask for given that the franchise haven't gotten new movie since three decade and maybe they don't want to take risk with serious Lupin.

Still I think this would serve decent entry point to young or wide audiences and will be surprised if this doesn't get to screened worldwide.

While a lot of intricate detail and personality is lost in 2D to CGI transitions, I do this this looks pretty good. I just hope this isn't the new norm for them. There is something special about hand drawn animations and I hope the studio behind the Lupin franchise stay with them. If anything, Disney relying so heavily on CGI now-a-days just shows how much can be lost when you stop doing 2D films and move fully over to CGI.

I am looking forward to this film however, but I have strong hopes they stay with their unique and well loved way of doing things.

At work atm, so I can't listen to the sound but I can see that the Lupin feel that we've all come to love from them is showing through with the visuals of the characters and some of their iconic objects (such as that old beat-up yellow bug that is so absurd but amazing).

Ya this is my thoughts and concerns on the matter of CGI in film honestly. Blame the corporate machine of Disney for this one.

Thank god Japan overall has stuck with the traditional way of doing cartoon films. I have a lot of respect for them with that instead of following trends.

Can you imagine how bad or rough something like Spirited Away, Laputa, or even Princess Mononoke would have ended up being if they were CGI? Their unique charm and their vivid child like imagination feel would be entirely lost.

i dont know what t think
at first it just looks so wrong, having watched pretty much all of lupin to see him in cg my brain just says "nope" but after seeing whole trailer i have to say that its a high quality animation very similar to modern western animation (pixar disnay) and it might work (although i hope they wont switch to this style for all the future movies)

In what world is pink jacket lupin "watered down?"
Also the film isn't out yet so I don't see the point in assuming its such. And there should be room for different tones in the series anyway since tonal variety was always one of its greatest assets. We just got a new Koike film, there's your hard-boiled lupin adventure for 2019.
I will say I am mildly underwhelmed the project isn't a new 2D animated film, but for what it is it looks downright fantastically done. I'm super excited.

Not a big fan of 3DCGI but I won't complain since it's more Lupin

I wonder how it'll turn out after the author died
Is this original story or an adaptation from existing story?

When I realised it was CGI I almost walked away, but I watched the trailer and this actually looks really good - most of the designs have transferred really well, especially Lupin himself. Idk why Fujiko looks like someone's mum though - I mean she's supposed to be the epitome of femme fatales, the slyest of the sly, the embodiment of a kitsune onna in the most likeable way possible. Well, it could be worse. We'll see how this pans out.

No, you do not. Most installments of Lupin III are independent of each other. At most, just look at the 5 main characters found on this article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lupin_III_characters
That said, I suggest going back and watching past series of Lupin III if you enjoy the movie.
Enjoy!
