Thankyou, I'm glad you liked it. It's one of the few reviews I look back at with content, not wishing I had taken a different approach. Honestly I don't remember the final episode that well but I don't recall being too impressed with the finale. I do remember there being more explanations and flashbacks incorporated in the second half, but they didn't really deter my feelings towards the series that much. It's kind of in a similar boat as Mob Psycho II where the season peaked in the first half but doesn't drop off significantly thereafter. To me, Fujiko Mine excelled in aspects like its stunning art-style, jazzy soundtrack, charming main cast and sheer entertainment value. And for a series like Lupin the III, I was wholly satisfied.
Also just in case you don't know, right now my Favourites List is being used to represent my favourite show from each year of this decade. While I do think Fujiko is great it wouldn't come close to my actual favourites of all time.
Wholeheartedly agree. I remember first watching it years ago and being captivated in what I had witnessed. Since then I must have seen it 3-5 more times and have managed to take away something new each time.
Hi. I just got done reading your review for Akira it was really good. Tbh, I was one of those "detractors" that would scream overhyped when I first watched Akira, as stated in your review "Who watches Akira for the first time and doesn’t exclaim 'What the fuck was that?'”. But when I rewatched Akira, and I had some idea of what was going on, I truly saw the greatness of Akira, and it turned into one of my favorite anime movies. I ended up loving it so much that I bought the OST on Vinyl, that's how good I thought Akira (well at least the OST, but even still the rest of the movie) was this time around.
I see. Ultimately it is a bit gratifying hearing one of the biggest targets of the "style over substance" criticism being used as a soapbox to criticize said criticism.
That was an interesting review, using Redline as a soapbox to call out the often meritless complaint of style over substance and presenting the idea that Redline's technical mastery and perfect craft of style is indeed its own monumental substance in and of itself. Definitely agree with you on that tho, cuz man, sometimes style is all the substance it needs. I do wish you went more into illustrating the incredible technical prowess the film had tho but yea, this is something your average anime fan and MAL reviewer/user kinda needs drilled into them.
I very much agree with your review of Redline.
True, it doesn't offer much in the way of plot and writing. But giving it any score less than a 10 would be a huge disservice to the immensely talented artists and animators who worked tirelessly for 7 years to bring us a non-stop thrill ride that's practically animated to perfection.
Sidenote: i noticed you have VHD Bloodlust on your PTW list.
Boy, you're in for a treat with that one. Yet another shining example of a movie that deserves a 10 just on the merit of its gorgeous art and brilliant animation alone.
Thanks for the praise and I'm glad you could find something that just mirrors the excitement level the movie brought. Damn that was such a hype movie! Glad you enjoyed watching the movie and reading the review.
Yeah this time around when I beat the game with a new character I'll get in on that dlc for sure. Holy fuck you platinumed that game? Idk how many trophies there are though but it sounds crazy. Bloodborne I didn't get far into at all so maybe a second chance is in order but I just remember not feeling in the mood for it. DS3 I never got bored of though.
Idk if you wanna do that brodie, I've heard S2 is nothing like S1 and a lot of people didn't like it. Could be different for you, I don't wanna provide any bad stigma towards it. I've heard the movie is dope though.
I've beaten 3 although I gotta play the dlc, maybe i should start a new game though that might be fun.
and i have 1 on pc but it runs poorly. also tried bloodborne and was not feeling that game but i probably just suck.
that's the only episode i've seen so far but im continuing it in a couple minutes. it was quite an introduction lmao
