i really really hope they don’t make Enta fall into the “predatory gay best friend” trope. His feelings for Kazuki have a lot of potential but once they start being creepy and entering homophobia town it just kinda ruins it :// |

I could get through this show being boring as hell, but boring and repetitive is too much. It was quite interesting to learn that his brother is disabled, but this isn't enough to make me want to keep watching. |

So another theory confirmed to be true: Haruka is sick, wow I wasn't expecting to see a hospital though. I hope it's not terminal :( That would explain why Kazuki seems so desperate though, it's like he has a time limit to only do so much for his sibling. Interesting that Kazuki doesn't communicate with him at all through texting. I was surprised Kuji didn't fight those boys since we've only seen him being confrontational so far. And the fact he would care at all to save Enta? Hmm. Those eyes though when he's silently thinking something to himself. I'm curious to see what he figures out. I know it must be lost in translation, but I didn't understand how the desire was explained at the end, the "slicing kisu" thing. Oh, and the castle in the sky reference was a sweet surprise! But why lol skacinth said: Some things I've noticed this episode / things that carry over from past episodes (also regarding the title of this show): In Haruka's scene at the very end, he talks about his dream of riding on a big cat (Nyantaro) and meeting the Little Prince while traveling the space. In Japanese Haruka says: "星の王子様に出会うんだ" 星の王子様 =hoshi-no-ouji-sama here translates to = the prince of the star (the Little Prince) which can hint the some themes from the actual story, about loneliness, relationships, connections, how each star can mean different things to different people (in this case, how each dish of hope can mean different things/goal/desire for each person?) Also riding Nyantaro probably refers to Haruka's connection to Kazuki (from previous episode) 皿 is dish in Japanese (read as sa-ra), and in this show 皿 is a metaphor for hope and luck. Sara-chan = idol of dish=hope (?) This in a way explains Kazuki's idea of cross-dressing, he's trying to become this figure of hope for Haruka which he believes he can't accomplish as Kazuki himself (brother's position) which is perhaps why he throws it away (as symbolised by throwing away his micanga, may refer to casting aside his position as a brother to Haruka and friendship with Enta at the same time) and devote himself to becoming Sara-chan for Haruka's sake. And the Hospital name that is shown at the end also contains '皿' 浅草皿病気 = Asakusa(浅草) Sara(皿) Hospital(病気-byouin) (Asakusa Dish=Hope Hospital) Finally, with the title of this show being called Sarazanmai, I'd have to guess that the Sara in the title definitely has to be connected to the meaning of Sara(皿) that appears in this show (since the title is written in hiragana instead of kanji). As to Zanmai, I'm gonna guess and say it's 三舞 (zan-mai) (meaning 三 = three, 舞 = dance, wheel, circle) Put together it's something like: the dish (hope) of three (three referring to our 3 MCs), those who dance (within the wheel of fortune/life as symbolised by the lucky wheel which Sara-chan spins? And since every ep our MCs 'dance' (both literally and metaphorically) around this subject of fortune). Just my guess as Ikuhara doesn't use kanji for the title of his shows. He never clarifies them because he believes once he does then the possibility of the symbolism just ends with his explanation, and he'd rather want the audience to find the answer they see fit from their perspective, which is why he uses hiragana or katakana for the titles. Well, seems like things are starting to all 'connect' now :D Thanks for this, that's very informative! |

Nothing really happened, the whole episode was wasted with glasses guy's cringy delusions and, in the end, they didn't even properly addressed the kiss, which was the only reason I watched this episode to begin with. |

I wonder if the "catch a lot of kisu and slice them in third" is actually a metaphor to "stripping the girls naked", since the phrase "キス三枚" is the process of slicing a fish in half and removing its bones (so third piece is the bones) Given that the girls in his delusion turn naked, I feel like that might be the joke. Though when searching, it gives me a similar phrase about actual kiss joke that is above my head to understand. |

Felt kinda bad for Enta... He showed an unprecedented level of courage to straight up confess like that. Kinda makes me wish they had the cajones to follow through, rather than make it all a punchline. But, with that being said, this show is still an interesting watch. If nothing else. |

He always gives them a somewhat happy ending. Also we have the cops who are also a gay couple, and I'm pretty sure Kazuki and Kuji are also gay - but we don't know who will be the "endgame couple" out of the trio. Someone will likely be "erased out of existence" in the finale of the series (I'm going to make a bold prediction that it's going to be Kazuki), but it's a metaphor for transcending the harmful and flaws society that confines you through love and acceptance. Ikuhara doesn't write tragic endings and I can assure you every character will be happy with their fate except the "big bad" who I hypothesise is Keppi. |

Lulu is a qt. Well, there it is. Astute people noted that Haruka was never seen standing up. Props to them; sad for Haruka, though. Looks like he is seriously ill. I have to say: thus far, this is Ikuhara's most straightforward work. Conventional it is not, obviously, but a hell of a lot more straightforward than his other works. Of course, that could all change soon. Supposedly, episode 4 is a big one. |

It's true that Kuji said they were like brothers for him. You may be right about this, I dont know. I just feel like he will be involved with this because it seems like he was about to do something. I wouldn't say that the main three are at the brothers stage yet - they've only just met, give them some time. But Kuji is trying to reach out, to understand them, and he was able to make sense of them through the lens of "brotherly love" - Kazuki wants to help his brother, Enta agrees that they are kind of brothers with Kazuki. Kuji can relate to that. But sucking on flutes contradicts this image, and he's just confused. And sus. Though, as I think about the one Ikuhara work I watched previously (MPD), I can easily imagine that the things I mentioned are actually a red herring. I'm not saying you're wrong - Sara is definitely kappa coded, so to speak. She may very well be forced to perform on the show, or has willingly aligned herself with the Corp. But the fact that she is in the otter camp in undeniable. You may have seen the ア ("a" in katakana) signs everywhere in the show - in the first discussion thread, someone mentioned that they correlate to "objet (petit) a" in Lacanian psychoanalysis, the object of desire which we seek in the other. The thing is - we see ア on the red circle (prohibiting) shields, meaning that in the real world, the desire is outlawed. Another instance we may observe it is on pieces of clothing (Enta's shirt, snickers, etc.) and on Sara's program. The second category is composed entirely of commodities - which leads me to believe that desire is not simply illegal, but patented and monopolized. Corporation has claimed the right to desire to themselves. And Sara is an important component in switching the public's innate desire to connect to others with the desire to connect to products, to consume. Each day she declares a Lucky object, thus focusing the attention of thousand's of people in one place. The day before, cops extract the desire from the people obsessed with that thing. I assume that this accumulation of multiple desires and their interaction is the cause of all the objects flying to the kappa zombie (the physical location of which probably corresponds to the corporate warehouse, just saying). This is only tangentially related to your response and I apologize. |

When we got the first Enta and Haruka scene his dad wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I noted Haruka hasn’t moved his legs on screen but I thought Enta couldn’t be responsible for bringing him around by himself. So, I jotted down maybe that theory about Haruka being unable to walk and Kazu feeling like he’s responsible is too much. Then we got the last scene which made it undeniably evident. At first I thought the wheelchair would just be a background prop but it actually used it and revealed that Enta was visiting Haruka at the hospital, so it seems. I’m impressed that one user picked up on all of this in like episode 1, it seems undeniable now that the expected path this will go is that Kazu feels responsible for what he did and changed through guilt from a happy runner to someone dedicating their life to make it up to Haruka from the outside. Either way this was another straightforward episode but another good one! Enta is a little ball of uncontrollable emotions, he’s picking fights and getting lost in fantasies! All he wants is Kazu’s love, or a stand in is them being together as the golden duo. He’s certainly cute and I liked how he promised he would get Kazu back to normal when Haruka felt down. I’m sure it was both a promise for himself but it was also to get Haruka’s mood up so it made it more special with Haruka brought Enta’s mood up later! So, Enta needs to become open with his feelings and Kazu needs to realize that no one is blaming him and for him to come to terms with what’s happened assumedly. I like Kuji so far, even though he’s clear that he’s cut throat and putting himself above everyone else he has been nice to Enta so far. He defended him from bullies and he gave him his box back when they swapped them accidentally. Kazu may have passed off the kiss as a dare but Kuji knows how Enta feels now! And lastly, with one of the cops on the opening with the other as his desired connection I wonder if we’re going to explore him in a similar way later. He’s kinda put in the opening as if he’s the 4th main character. Either way those two seem to be harnessing desire energy for some big boss. |

I really do like how selfish each character is for reason episode we see Enta dark secret exposed. I assume both Kazuki and Toi know but won't say anything. I do enjoy how flawed each character is, i'm assuming when the gay police officer do they routine the person they interrogating will become the catalyst to capture desires. But the trio with the help of Keppi, extracts the desire from the catalyst and Keppi eats it. That is my surface level observation. Interesting to note the end of the episode after ending, it says Asarusa Sara( from Asenshi subs) so the little brother is in a hospital atm. Kazuki little brother was probaly the catalyst for him stopping soccer, maybe its a disease ..... but for what i can tell because little brother can't run anymore... i assume that as time pass in the hospital started getting engrossed with this tv stuff occurring. While Keita realized this.... Anyway the future of the series looks interesting |

Nice to get confirmation with Haruka's issue. I'm liking Kazuki & Kuji, both have quite the caring side in different ways. Never liked Enta before, now he's otterly creept, Gay is great depending on presentation, but he really should've been honest/open and confess his feelings outside of fantasy. But they ended there & we don't know what Kazuki really thinks after seeing all those Enta secrets. Great song & dance. There's a repetition & structure over the zombie steal - otter cop - kappa trio, but hopefully it'll evolve the plot. |

OMG Enta grabbing Kazuki's flute from his desk so that he can have a indirect kiss LOL I like that despite the ambiguity and comedic tone of the series, it includes some LGBTQ characters like the cops and Enta. I think possibly Kazuki too but he might be in love with the real Sara girl, the one he cosplays as, because in his song and dance he mentions that he is in love with a girl? I am not sure, I could be completely wrong. I was very surprised by the end to see Haruka in a wheelchair. That was the biggest twist of this episode/series so far for me. Glad to see Enta's own kappa song and dance number, even though it's almost exactly the same as Kauzki's. I can't wait to see Kuji's kappa dance. |

My eyes are in love with this anime. I could take screencaps of each shot (I held myself back from doing it as it would take me too long lol), the chara design is great in itself but there are no off models, everything from the lighting/shading to the expressions and staging is worth saving. I can't wait for the OST to be out! So there is a different track playing depending on which boy leads the Sarazanmai. Kazuki's theme SLAPPED, Enta's not as much but it's not a problem. Regarding Kazuki's way of brushing off the kiss... Imo, Kazuki has a really cold side to him. He doesn't even manage to show affection to his dearest person and is solely focused on taking selfies as Sara to "connect". It looks like nothing else matters to him now, so I can see him understanding that Enta is in love with him and faking the "it was a dare" so he "kindly" rejects Enta and doesn't cause trouble. I hope we will see Kazuki's real self soon. He's smiling in so much of the official art, but in the anime... On another note, I will protect Enta until I die. I think people are overreacting over his behavior, talking like he deserves to be jailed. Let the 14 yo live! Kind of scared to see that the hospital also has Sara's name. How is she everywhere? Also disliked Keppi's "angry" expression during Enta's confession. What's up with them. |

I especially agree that kazuki's sarazanmai/leak theme was great, and about wanting to find out more about kazuki's real motivations. It's already obvious that Toi isn't a bad guy. Of course, it's still good that we're getting an episode about him as well. I think an official OST list was posted somewhere (on twitter), and it included the three versions of the leak soundtrack (kazuki, enta and toi). I just hope that they will be full length songs (three minutes or more) like those sad piano songs from Penguindrum, which are also pretty cool. About Keppi's "angry" face during Enta's confession, I interpreted that more as a concerned or maybe curious face, and I thought he was concerned about how difficult the confession must be for Enta. I have to say that scene felt very awkward to me!! I almost wanted to switch off my computer! Not taking my eyes off the screen was like trying to stay under a cold shower haha. It really showed how hard that kind of a confession would be really well. |

That...homoerotic...sequence with the cops seems like it's gonna be a part of every episode. No complaints from me, nuh-uh, not at all. P.S. Enta is super cute. Hehehe :333 This is a pretty insignificant "observation", and maybe someone's already said it somewhere in a thread, but Mawaru Penguindrum + Yuri Kuma Arashi both featured homosexuality, but with females. Interesting that the director (I'm excited about this show because he's the one directing it) is inserting BL into this show. |

im already attached to all the characters and its only episode 3.. and yeah, from the very first episode kazuki seemed unhappy and like he was distancing himself from everyone and i thought it was just me projecting onto him but it seems truer and truer, with his brother and friend both concerned for him and etc. seems like next episode is gonna be abt toi, and i'm very intrigued to see his deal.. and haruka using a wheelchair was not too surprising to me, since he was never shown walking and also just because kazuki is so obsessed with making him happy. it seems like kazuki might have some guilt around some kind of incident that caused haruka to need a wheelchair but that's just my theory. kazuki doesnt seem to believe that he as himself is able to (or perhaps worthy of if guilt is a factor) making his brother happy and so he distances himself from his family and friends. and the dynamic between the 3 mcs is interesting as well, i worry for enta, i hope he doesnt end up completely heartbroken. and i'm just generally excited to learn more abt all 3. |

Easily my favorite of the season. I get it's a partial re-hash of Mawaru Penguindrum but um I don't care? This is wildly entertaining |

This show loves exposing people's secrets in the most humiliating way. Once again, the show got me with Enta's fantasies. I'm kind of glad nothing too serious got asserted there, I like it better as a comedy-heavy slice of life full of randomness, I would want no drama to have any strong sense in affecting the plot if there is one. First time watching a show where I don't complain about the reused animation scenes, those are just fine as they are. I could sit through 10 hours long of that. A still press the loop button after it ends. |

Didn't thought it was a shounen ai anime at first peek, still don't know what to think of it, it's a bit too much confusing, i don't understand everything. |

Enta might need to slow down a bit on his fantasies xD I actually thought he had confessed to Kazuki in the end... but then they did that dumb celebration pose. Such a shame it wasn't real but well. Nice episode again. Based on the final scene, it seems things might get a bit depressing from now on. |

I have to say that this episode reformed my attitude towards Enta. I didn't like him but this episode changed that somehow. The more I watch this anime, the more I recognise the genius behind it and the more I appreciate it. This is really a fantastic anime. |

I really feel Enta deserves the bowl of hope the least, with his shitty selfish attitude, and wasting the first one in the fist place. I understand why he does things but like, why kiss kazuki without him agreeing to it, and start to fight some kids who want to play some soccer That ending, so the circumstances around harukappa were also sort of an halucination |
