THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Catchy opening song :o

Pretty peculiar start for the pilot episode. We got Asuka's debut right off the bat but also some other strange creatures making their appearances. It's a series with magical girls in it so that's the impression I got so far.

As a person in normal life, Asuka is one really athletic. Well, idk. Maybe this has potential but will have to see more. I do kinda like the premise and setup of the first episode somewhat.

I have seen works by the mangaka who made the manga for this and usually his works are dark.
So far the the episode was pretty laid back till about the last part.
It seems being a mahou shoujo didn't work out well for out main and it looks like things aren't over yet.
it was a nice buildup tho.

That was an entertaining start, dealt with the after-effects of the big war on Asuka.

Is the HUGE threat really gone though? They made it look like it is.

The parents scene was unexpected. ''Little by Little''

In general, this series doesn't shy away from showing gore and violence.

One of the anime's I was looking forward to most this season.

She tried hard to fit into everyday life but she cannot escape the past whether it's PTSD or just all the darkness, blood, violence and non stop fighting will never leave her.

I liked watching Asuka in action, she is very badass and took care of those terrorists nicely, I guess it's good to have a friend who is a magical girl who can protect you from harm.

Looks like the Disas might still be around though, the queen and her pets look incredibly dangerous, also noticed those body parts on that cube, are those the severed remains of Asuka's parents?

Looking forward to the next episode. More magical girls in action by the looks of it.

When I found out that this was an original work by the director of Psycho Pass S1 and the movie, I knew that I was gonna like this

For starters, I like that we're not getting put into an origin story type of setting and that we're following the MC post all of that stuff that you'd usually see in these type of series. Its interesting how we get to see her state of mind after having experiencing the horrors that comes with this job

Asuka in herself is pretty nice though, she's not a hard ass nor is she a super serious person, instead she's actually really kind and easy to talk to. But alas, I love how serious she gets whenever she's in battle mode though

The series itself is pretty intense too with all the violence and gore so on that aspect, I'm liking what I'm seeing, (Which shouldn't be a surprise since this is a seinen series) so I'm looking forward to seeing where this series is gonna go

Not gonna lie, Asuka having war flashbacks from seeing the plushie mascot was kinda hilarious.

I feel like the war that they crammed into the first few minutes would be more interesting story to tell in this anime. This way we get teen angst right off the bat without any connection to the character or development, which I'm not a big fan of.

That was surprisingly really entertaining and I'm definitely looking forward to more if they manage to keep the story unique.

That OST was hard hitting and just oozed hype. And I love the serious outlook on the Magical Girl storyline seems interesting to a degree.

Asuka is a badass too. Other girls were meh.

LIDENFILMS continues to visually kill it, since I thought the visuals looked really damn good here.

It wasn't shy about flaunting it's darkness but it did so in a self aware, b movie sort of way. Magical Girl Site and Madoka this is not.

Eh, I dunno. I kinda feel like I would have been more interested in seeing more of "former mahou shoujo struggles with her everyday life because of PTSD", instead of "oh look, they tried to hurt my friend, eh I'll go back to fighting... I guess the battle never ends, huh".

Also, I'm not really a fan of the style. Asuka looks so... derpy!

Excluding the Tsuki ga Kirei levels of terrible background CGI characters, that was quite an entertaining first episode, this anime didn't hide at all that it can be hella fucked up, Asuka's PTSD was serious business and the contrast between that and the fun moments with her friends was nice, now let's see if they can last for much...

The entertaining trash of the season has arrived, but this might as well turn into boring trash.

At least the soundtrack in this show is pretty catchy.

it would've been Strike Witches but with more gore - find monster, destroy monster core, go home, repeat. oh and don't forget the super-edgy moments of human body parts in the mail.

I've got two questions:
1. from a design standpoint, if all the magical girls use weapons somewhat representative of their countries (the Chinese girls had sharp nunchuks, the Russian had an AK, the blonde had an HK416, so on), why the hell is Asuka using a kerambit, and such an ugly one at that?
2. if the war with giant stuffed animals is over, why do the magical girls still have their powers? the alliance with the Spirit World was made to help humanity win. they won, so the alliance is no longer necessary. what the hell?

That was certainly something. I suppose it was interesting enough.

So the premise is after the world has been saved from the invading species by Mahou Shoujo's who were born after Humanity made a treaty with the spirit realm people the Mahou Shoujos' jobs are far from done since they have to fight terrorism now. Quite the detailed premise but it's also kinda unique I guess, since we're following a story that's set after what the normal story would be. xD

I had the feeling this would be one of those gruesome Mahou Shoujo's and it looks like I wasn't wrong and I'm surprised that they're showing quite a lot of blood and gore too. The beginning of Asuka's battle sequence where she chopped that guy up was insane. xD

I like Asuka so far so that's a good thing.

Am I the only one who thinks the eyes are drawn in a weird way? Though admittedly the production doesn't seem all that great but for some reason the art for the character eyes really stood out as inexplicably strange to me.

I'll stick around to see where this goes.

This isn't really a original work, it's based on a manga. Yes, the writer of the manga was one of the responsible for the script in Psycho-Pass along Urobochi but he wasn't the director. Beyond being the writer of the manga, he's also on the series doing series composition.

To be another magical girls anime, this one looks pretty decent, at least the girls look more "strong" and "serious".
At the beginning they give us a slight explanation of how the magical girls were born in this anime. The monsters look childish but give the feeling that they are dangerous, especially the teddy bears that handed the severed hands of Asuka's parents.
Asuka seems to be the most focused and determined of the magical girls, that means she suffered the most, after the flashes and hallucinations that she has, I think it is difficult to return to the life of a normal girl.
I liked that prisoner escape, I think it gave the turn I expected in this anime, seeing Asuka in action was great, we also got a slight look at the villains at the end of the episode.
The OP looks pretty good, we see Asuka with her internal conflict of fighting or not.
The character design is not bad, I love Asuka's eyes, they have that gaze that at any moment you will be the target of her and she can kill you in different and painful ways.
Apparently the other magical girls seem to be from other countries, at least the blonde girl, the girl in the Chinese suit and the girl with the patch in the eye, the girl dressed as a nurse must be Japanese like Asuka.
So far it seems all right, I hope it does not lower the quality it has, at least I saw no censorship in the scenes where there is dismemberment or the part where Asuka hallucinates that a monster crushes the head of a little girl, also watching magical Girls using military tactics does not sound too bad.
I hope this anime does not disappoint me as Mahou Shoujo Site did.

I was planning to watch a magical girl anime because I realised I hadn't watched/read a proper anime/manga from that genre other than Cardcaptor Sakura. I couldn't decide which one to watch, and then I heard about this anime. So, I am watching this.

This wasn't bad. The animation was weird in some parts, but I have seen much worse.

I am really curious to know what happens next. Guess that's a good thing.

These girls got weird eyes...

"This fight is beyond normal human understanding." Based on what I saw in the first minute, things are about to get weird, aren't they?

5 Magical Girls remain. Two Fighters, two gunners, and a medic...That's a good squad...

Asuka struggling with some PTSD...

Asuka has the window seat!

Hata and Makino are gonna die, aren't they?

Well now, this is a story I can get behind. Asuka stopped fighting after the fight with the Disas, but the constant crimes around the world is what's bringing her back to the fight. After the Disas war, they deal with international crime, hence the "Spec Ops" in the title. I'm down with that. And it looks like some of the magical girls have become...corrupt. Alright then. This should be pretty entertaining...
