Pretty solid way to introduce a new character, that last scene where the bass-soundtrack dropped was epic. Wonder how they will find another set of gear in a day?

God pressures but doesn't drown. Aprieta doesn't translate into "shut a door". It's saying God doesn't give you more than you can handle.

I know, I'm spanish, it's just that there's a saying in english that goes like that, that's why I said "equivalent" and not "translated" xd

Great episode, Sachio is so badass, maybe little bit annoying, but still very badass. The ending was just perfect, this anime gets better and better with each episode.

How did Joe get iniside that pawn shop when the gate was closed and untouched when Nanbu destroyed it with his van though?

Even more Joe references in this episode lol with kids and the river, the ost is dope and the fights are pretty hype tbh. Excited to see more of this.

Nice to see that JD Joe sparked off a fire in Yuri. Btw that's a nice trainings machine he got there.

People who have seen Ashita no Joe will most likely be able to guess why Sachio seems so concerned about Joe and so attached to his hat. But maybe I'm interpreting too much into this.

Animation in this episode was simple yet very good again and the action delivered too. So glad that this show continues to be the best anime this season so far.

I also wondered the same, the cap looks too similar, but I think it's just used as a reference.

The guy on the picture was most likely his dad,but I meant that the hat could have been passed to Sachios dad too and from him to Sachio. And yes, these people are unknown so far.

I fell that Sachio knows a lot about gears... maybe his father was an enginner or the creator of it...

Yeah, on a second thought I also rather think of it as another homage. Looking too much into this is probably overkill xD

Good episode, it felt kinda rushed, mostly with the introduction of those kids, I hope they get some good screentime + development later on, I was expecting the Gear to be wrecked after all is a prototype and not everyone can use one of those.

I'm looking forward for the next actual fight in the ring with the shark boy

Well shit me sideways, kid's been part of this show for just one episode now and I already love the little guy. They've done an amazing job at making Sachio likable, lol.

Also, I just figured out what the OP reminds me of... that OP could easily be a 'Prong' song. As someone who quite likes that band, that definitely makes me like this whole anime even more. So far, this is for sure the best anime of this season =w=

Let's be honest that plot reversal where they subvert our expectations by showing us this mythical item that will solve all our problems and then quickly(literally) Destroying it, only for our Hero(JD aka Joe aka David) to dumpster Goliath anyway.

That's why that short fight felt so legendary. And I'm positive that they are not so subtly hinting at him boxing without gear in the tournament... Which is BADASS if that's true...because that would be subverting the expectations of literally everyone in the show, possibly showing the first crack to the foundation of this societies(aka yuri and boss lady's) empire.

Basically this episode was bloody brilliant.

OMG The OST is freaking GREAT. But anyway, some kids get introduced with Sachio taking the lead this episode. He's a cool kid, and he seems to know a hell of a lot about gear. I look forward to seeing more of him. Along with that JD / Joe got his first match lined up. It's gonna be good.

Man, I was loving this show so far, but this episode was really disappointing for me.

Probably the most glaring problem for me was the introduction of Sachio. It made absolutely no sense for him to tell Joe how to win Megalomania like he's an authority on megaloboxing. Are you seriously trying to convince me that some 10 year old street urchin somehow knows more about boxing than a 40-something year old guy who's made a living being a boxing coach? I don't care for any of these theories on this forum "maybe his dad is a Gear engineer" and whatnot, this is a little kid we're talking about. It was ridiculous how he was made to coach Joe over Nanbu in the ending fight because he somehow could tell the difference in the noise produced by the left and right drive motors of Potemkin's gear. Why wouldn't Nanbu know something like that? You would think that the guy who's been coaching from ringside all his life listening to gear motors would give that kind of advice. But no, we need to shoehorn this little kid into the show and have him be the de facto coach, because he SOMEHOW knows more about gears than anyone. This is too ridiculous for me to suspend my disbelief.

Speaking of the ending fight, that scene pretty threw the premise of megaloboxing out the window, and makes the use of gears pretty much pointless. In the first episode, we are introduced to megaloboxing and this sort of "next level" in the sport of boxing. The opening fight gives you the feeling that any one mistake can be very costly, which is the centerpiece of the sport's brutal spectacle. Taking a direct blow to the face or body can be brutal when your opponent is wearing a mechanical exoskeleton around their arms that increases the speed and power of their punches. So when a guy wearing a beefy set of mechanical arms can't keep up with someone using absolutely nothing, then what's the point of even using gear in the first place? At first you would remember Nanbu's advice to Joe "It's not the gear, but the person using it." In other words, having the most high-tech gear in the world won't do you any good if you don't know how to fight. Of course, this is being made with the assumption that the playing field is level, aka both fighters are using gear. It's supposed to be this mechanical advantage that sets megaloboxing apart from regular boxing. But we were just shown that gear doesn't actually amount to anything against an opponent not wearing any gear, so again I ask "what's the point?".

I'm going to keep watching just because I really don't want to let go of a show I was enjoying so much before. I really like the dynamic that Nanbu and Joe had, a pair of junkyard dogs trying to stand up against the great danes of high society. Having a snot-nosed brat tagging along to tell everyone what to do just sours that dynamic. And it'll be hard to get excited when the motors of Joe's gear start revving up to deliver a knockout blow to his opponent, knowing now that he could just as easily do the same without any gear at all.

I will say that the music's great, though.

I can see that this anime has great potential, but there was something off about this episode. It felt rather...rushed, for a lack of a better term. Certain moments, I believe, felt as they weren't dragged out enough to pull of a dramatic scene. It was missing some elements.

Great episode as expected. The kids are a bunch of trouble makers, but they're street smart and know how to make a living. I wonder what kind of candy those things are haha. Interested to see why Sachio wants to go to the Megalonia. Pops seems to be an actual good coach. I thought he was just a scummy guy, but he knows his stuff. I wonder why he never trained Joe to the best of his abilities up until now.

Also love how cool and care free Joe is. Dude just wants to fight haha.

Whether it be anime or real life, kids are annoying all the same. The first part of the episode was pretty meh with the usual cliche introduction of street smart kids, who will eventually help the mc, and the small time gangster guy who deals in stolen goods, and of course he has what mc needs. Still, I liked how things came together at the end with the gear and whatnot.

This was definitely the weakest episode so far for me. Maybe it's just my hate for bratty children but the second they came on screen I was already dreading them becoming part of the story, and now it looks like they're here to stay. JD's character value fell a lot as well having to be taught such basic shit that he seemed like he already knew before by captain alcoholic lardass.

Good episode so far.
I assume that there is no weight divisions, as Joe took out the big guy with slight difficulty. I like how the boxing ranking system is computerized and the fact that the ranking system is under one organization unlike in our reality we have four organizations and one nonreputable one that uses a computerized system to rank fighters.

I will say that the music's great, though.

I more or less agree with you, I kinda also got irritated at the fact that Joe would take the street urchins two cents, rather than listen to his coach. I would have given the writers the benefit of the doubt if the street Urchin foreshadowed that he had some sort of guidebook on exoskeletons, or if the kid was like a genius out of 1 in 1000 or shown him learning from an engineer on exoskeletons. Then again this is a shounen so the details like that will be neglected.

That was some bullshit seeing Joe defeat the big dude without a gear, the only reasoning I could give for Joe's victory was because he was fighting an older guy in the streets. I hope the writer doesn't go through the idea of having joe not fighting with a gear during his debut and post-debut as this will then become a plot hole in shonen fashion. I hope in Joe's debut that he at least has part of the gear on his right arm, rather than having non at all. In Joe's debut fight he will be fighting scrub, Joe should either fight defensively or go staright for the knock out with a nasty right.
