Just want to chime in to say that I feel like I've been waiting for this moment since the beginning of the series - nay, from the OVA themselves. Possibly the most fulfilling moment of this Spring season.
LeeTailor said: I'm a bit conflicted on the quick resolution of Croix and Chariot's showdown, but I'm glad Chariot got a few badass moments again. I'm conflicted in that it was over quickly, but it makes sense in a way since Croix was never out to destroy Chariot, even though her ambitions were in part fueled by jealousy. After all she got for her efforts was a stick, it would have made sense for her to lash out at Chariot, but broken resolve isn't too unbelievable either. Maybe she and Chariot could patch things up after all, as it seems like Chariot thinks their falling out was her own fault as well.
Chariot and Akko reunion was also a bit too neat perhaps, but at least Chariot brought up the good questions (are you sure you're okay with me, after I stole your magic), even if Akko brushed them aside - which is completely in line with her character. Nevertheless, the scene made me happy.
The exploding dragon and all the Chariot action (when she wasn't tied up) looked very pretty. The situation keeps escalating though, and I don't really know what to expect for the finale, as in how can Team Akko prevent a war from happening? The restoration of magic, however, looks pretty straight forward from now on, and I assume magic users will simply have access to more energy, whether they use it for "good" or "bad".
Was wondering if it would restore Chariot's ability to fly and even Akko's latent magical ability.

No, you are the only one. We're all babies flailing at some shiny stars on a mobile. We are literally unable to discern true quality in the way you can.

Watch out, leylines don't like salt.
I don't want to prove superiority or anything, I'm just puzzled by the extreme positive reactions to a mediocre show, while I was expecting something way more off the charts. It's Studio Trigger we're talking about, we all know they can do better than this (the LWA movies are way better than the actual TV show, honestly)

Haha, no hard feelings then, I simply disagree.
I actually just rewatched the OVAs because of this exact argument, and while they were definitely more dense with charm and stuff happening, There's just so much more in the show quantitatively, there's consistent and powerful themes and character development and all that stuff here, and it's still all extremely well presented IMO. I genuinely care for and relate to the main characters at this point, which I never did in the OVAs, if anything I liked them more for the flashy stars and pretty designs (heh)
Sure, Akko was kinda annoying in the first half, but so were Diana and her hangers-on in the OVAs. So whatever, if you don't like it that's fine, and feel free to make some more thought-out criticism against it, instead of using condescending words like 'blinded'

You're right, I kind of used bad wording there, sorry >.< I didn't want the post to be obnoxiously long, I will do a review once the last episode airs, properly listing (with actual samples and analysys) what works and what doesn't (for me, at least). And it's not because I dislike it, it's because I care, or else I wouldn't still be here watching the show ^^
This episode reminded me so much of Chrono Trigger.
Croix was like Queen Zeal trying to ressurect Lavos with the Mammon Machine in this.
Who the hell shot the nuke? That's a bit harsh of a reaction towards some rioting, don't you think?
Almost forgot, this is Trigger, somebody must die a heroic sacrifice next episode, I call Chariot.

It's pretty consistent actually, it stays average until the end. One or two references here and there and the fans are happy and forget the weak writing, the forced "drama" and lack of any tension.
True though, ... it's not the worst show (maybe that is an achievement)
The hype around trigger is ... like old men looking backward to the old beloved past and lying to themselves, trying to ignore as much as they can the sad and tasteless present reality.
I might exaggerate a bit, but one thing is sure, there's nothing to be impressed with here, certainly less than with the OVAs.

OK, so real talk before we 'talk' about the episodes. Before I watched the series, I, Of course, started with the short movie. It was fun, enjoyable and oozed a unique charm. The staff of Studio Trigger are notorious for being fans of Western animation, from Steven Universe to Disney, and nowhere was this more obvious than in Little Witch Academia. Afterwards, I watched the sequel movie, which was around an hour long. It was good, not as good as it's predecessor but it still qualified for, at most, a 9. It was kinda like a Disney Sequel (The GOOD ones, mind you) and I enjoyed the established lore and subplots there. To this day, I still wonder about who Jennifer was (As a person) and whether or not her sacrifice affected how people ion this universe see witches today. So when I heard there was a TV series coming soon, hinted when I watched another Trigger series (You know which one it was), I hit the PTW button right away. As soon as the series started, I posted on forums of how great the show was, how obvious some of the foreshadowing were (Seriously, they are as opaque as Aku hanging around in the beach, with NO shorts! AUGUGH!!) and the occasional weakness that pop up here and there. But to this day, I still love this show. It warrants a 10 (provided the ending delivers) and my highest recommendations to anyone who asks, "What kind of anime should I watch?". The only tragedy is, a critic never gives a ten (or in the case of a flawed ending, a 9) But then again, I'm NO critic. I'm an fan like everyone else, almost as a fan as Studio Trigger themselves. So, when someone asks if this anime has done anything, I'll tell them this, this anime inspired me to go for my dreams. I always wanted to be in the animation industry, despite my sub par art and everyone saying that animation is a bitch, but screw it, I'll join in anyways. I'll tell them that, one day a kid from South East Asia is making an anime that is garnering critical praise and he owed it to this anime. His parents wanted him to be a doctor but NOPE!
And in a nutshell, that's what this anime is, a love letter to what the creators loved most. So, if you ever catch wind of a DVD/Blu-Ray release, please, let me know. I want to show the creators my support and utmost appreciation, and help them as much as I can. Even if I bought ONE (or two depending on what's next) DVD/Blu-Ray of this show. Because I want to continue to support them.
Last time in LWA, Diana breaks the ice and tells Akko to believe in her believing heart. And chariot walks up to Croix, demanding she stops her Noir Fuel Spirit. And then Chariot whips out her Lightsaber. They have an epic battle until Croix successfully traps Chariot, until an unlikely ally intervenes, Prof. Anne. I have to be honest that was a legitimate twist and I did not see that one coming (I mean, it was hinted earlier, but I never knew when). But to no avail, Croix unleashes her Noir fuel Spirit, shuts down the Sorcerer's Stone and disrupts the leylines, and her plan begins execution. Meanwhile, everyone is going berserk on the streets and the police are considering on bringing in the MILITARY! SWEET JESUS!! Do they always do this when someone gets triggered? No wonder the two factions hate each other! They suck in crowd control. Akko and Co. notice the commotion and hurry to Chariot's side, and crash head first into Arcturus forest. Meanwhile, Croix has successfully pried the seal open, only to find out, that the world changing magic..........is a stick. Great! As you can tell, Croix doesn't get it, and instantly loses her shit. But her day just got worse, because the Noir Fuel Spirit gained a mind of it's own and started to turn on Croix. Thankfully, Chariot jumps in and saves her. Eventually the girls jump in and lend a helping hand (Wait, how did they get their magic back? Didn't they say they were out of magic? And the Sorcerer's Stone was still inactive at the time, wh-what? And on that note, they found her by following a jet stream. What made you think THAT will lead you to Chariot? For all we know, it might be a paratrooper from that military reinforcement we mentioned earlier. You know, like Lord of the Flies) and Akko uses her first spell and saves Chariot, after Chariot saved Croix of course.....again. What happens afterwards was a touching scene, and for me, was the highlight of this episode. It's when Akko and Chariot meet after saving her, and Akko tells Chariot that, Akko will be Akko and Chariot will be Chariot. The conversation they exchanged was brilliant and heartfelt, and managed to flesh out, not only Akko and Chariot's development as characters, but also bring light into Akko's main goal, finding Chariot and thanking her for all the change she has brought to Akko's life. And right there, is when Chariot sees the bright side (For she was blind, but now she sees), and, Akko FINALLY finds the last word, the Seventh Word. She obtains the Grand Triskelion and everyone rejoices (Guys is it me, or does the Grand Triskelion look like a sword when merged with the Shiny Rod?), while Croix is left distraught and contemplates about what she has done (Still surprised about how NO ONE punched her in the face for what she did!!) But all is not over, as the fury, still kicking, turns inTO A #@$%%^ING NUKE!!! HOLY SHIT! "No kill like overkill", THEY SAY!
100% agree. By the way, really enjoyed reading your posts so far, i'm sure you will be able to find your place in the anime industry :)
vilmarbf said: Did you guys ever noticed that akko explodes and desintegrates in the ending? Let's hope it's just a coincidence.
NOOOOOOOOOO if akko ends up having to sacrifice her mortal form to restore magic or some shit i will literally be heartbroken omfg... i have a really bad feeling some fucked up shit is gonna happen next episode though, ugh...
maybe it'll be chariot who sacrifices herself? idk.
my other theory is that magic will be gone for good and everyone will "live equally" or something :S
I have my doubts Akko will have to sacrifice herself, I fell like a character death would be out of place in LWA and she has the Grand Triskellion. I predict that we'll she Akko, possibly as an adult, dress as the Witch on the cover of "The Art of You Yoshinari" entertaining a crowd of young future witches and lovers of magic.
I am a bit worried that several death flags are hanging above Chariot. She can't fly anymore (something they've pointed out several times with no major consequence as of yet) and then there was Akko asking her to keep being her teacher at Luna Nova, and the final boss shows up as a cliffhanger. Pretty sure either Chariot or Croix have flags on them.

The episode felt a little off to me at times, but I was still very moved by Akko's talk with Ursula. You could really see those gorgeous frames where they put in all the effort possible to make an absolutely stunning smile for Akko.
The end seemed a bit foreboding, it makes me want next ep to come now but at the same time I don't want that because then the show would be over. Once again I think the show picked up a lot in the second half, even more so in the last 6 or so eps. yknow, because that's when Diana started becoming more prevalent ;)
Only complaint this ep was not enough Diana, and Diana x Akko. The shot with them having saved Ursula with Murowa was nice though

I have a bad feeling after watching that ending, I feel that things are going to go sideways in the most colossal way, and what was fixed is about be destroyed beyond repair. On a side note I wonder if George Lucas will try and sue over the way Ursula's wand looked so much like a light saber? I am not a star wars fan but it was a nice touch on witches fighting with wands.
Somehow I didn't feel anything from this episode. It is either because I am dead on the inside, or after episode 22, it just went downhill for me. I do still enjoy the series, but I feel like they could have made it so the problem wasn't instantly solved... although there is a missile that's gonna go boom pretty soon.

Holy shit , I smell a Gainax Ending Coming
Gunbuster or Diebuster type of ending?
But you're right, it seems there won't be a happy ending. Besides the last moments of this episode there is also Diana's prophecy that Akko will leave Luna Nova.
that prophecy already happend she left at episode 23 for sometime

Perhaps, but I'm not so sure about it. Whatever Diana saw in Akko's future it was something surprising or maybe even shocking (based on Diana's reaction). And the way she said that Akko will leave Luna Nova suggests that it will be permanent (or at least that's the impression I got while watching that scene).
I know this isn't going to happen but it just felt like that last scene is a major scene where Akko gets seriously hurt or dies... I know it isn't going to happen but the drama, well shit! Hahah lol but I loved this episode as well because of Akko's speech and willingness to forgive.
My, what a great episode :'), love it,
but what the hell man, chariot fight scene just went star wars lmao
that last scene tho, something bad will happen i guess :(
9 witches to create the seal, 9 withces to unlock the magic? We have akko, diana, croix, chariot, suci, lotte, constanze, amanda and jasminka, it probably means nothing, just a coincidence, but i think it would be fine if they, together, do something to stop that missile.
Yeah given the show's tone throughout I normally wouldnt expect much worry about a final epsiode, but given that this is technically gainax I'm kind of praying the next episode wont pull a gainax ending or get depressing for the sake of depressions sake like a couple of their other older series.

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me
i was like this was some what of a tamer ending than you're usual trigger fashion granted there was a giant robot/dragon/stealth bomber and lightsabers but seeing most of the Croix and Chariot battle pretty much ended before Akko even got there lol.
sometimes i think Chariot doesn't even need magic when shes that strong.
not sure what this ending will be shows been pretty cheerful with some sad bits up to this point but that just looks like a nuke D:
Akko find the seventh word in a intense episode full of action and emotions!!!
Chariot understand the Croix feelings!!!
It was funny when appears the tree branch and the face of all xD kekeke
actually, I was expecting the end to be Akko doing a great show and making everybody happy (as in the conversation she had with Andrew a few episodes before)...
But now I just don't know, she has to save the day, and I am not used to trigger animes, but people talking here makes me think that the end will probably not be super happy (there will be a sort of sacrifice - akko or chariot or maybe someone else)
I still hope there is a kind of chariot show made by akko in the end, and I am just too pissed off with akko, she saw everything croix did and then didn't do anything, didn't tell anyone... when the girls realized there was a problem, first thing someone normal would think was "Croix did something", but, no, akko didn't realize or say something...
And about Chariot, I am too angry about akko not knowing that Chariot didn't do that on purpose (steal people's magic) and that Chariot lost a good amount of power because of akko's reckleness =//
Well, it is all up to the Shiny Rod (Claiomh Solais, Sword of Light) now. It has always been the key.
Nobody else without a router could use magic, but Akko and Diana were somehow able to use the Shiny Rod to free Chariot.
And as I said back in March, “I'm betting that when we get the seventh word it literally turns into a sword.” Sure enough, just before we see the ICBM, we see the Sword of Light in Akko’s hands. So Akko has one more challenge – wield the Sword.
Meanwhile Andrew gets to be the REAL diplomat and snuff out the war between the countries. This should be an excellent ending.
Jesus Christ that lightsaber. Some things I really liked in this episode. Some things I thought were rushed and clumsy. I liked Croix's meltdown when the reconstruction magic rejected her. I liked the girls all coming together to combat evil, one of the most Harry Potter feeling moments in the whole series. Especially Diana and Akko wielding Shiny Rod together. Kind of wish there was more of that. And I really liked Akko and Chariot's heart to heart at the end. Was it worth the absurd amount of set up? Probably not. But I was getting a little misty eyed. And I think it effectively showed Akko's growth as a character.
So beyond that what I took issue with was the handling of the plot stuff. The coup de tat, futball feud has been one of the weaker parts of the shows end game. And here it felt like an afterthought. Not worth nearly the time that has been put into it. I also found just the whole deal with Croix's Grand Triskelion and the true nature of World Reconstruction Magic to be a little baffling. Maybe it will make more sense next time. The most baffling of all cliffhanger ending seemed to suggest it's not over yet.
But on a final less serious note. I was kind of, pettily maybe, annoyed by one small thing. When the stone goes out, it flashes to various D List characters around the school gasping and looking surprised. After all the conflict and the stone goes back online. It cuts to the exact same characters in the exact same places looking relieved. WHY DIDN'T ANY OF THEM MOVE? Your source of magic is stolen? And you're going to sit there stationary for a minimum of 15 minutes? I get why Croix hates witches so much now. Not really, I hope the finale is even stronger than this one.

oh God.. that last scene.. Akko's speech with Ursula.. i'm so emotional ugh
but the ending scene though
it gave me chills
so creepy and so scary
That last scene...yes. I want a happy end :(
But Akko did a huge magic, a little group s anger what can do..pff
That was a wonderful episode!
Croix plan backfired at her! and her minions are out of control, good thing Chariot and all the girls cooperated especially Akko! that was awesome!
lol, Akko officially met Chariot, and she was able to unlock the 7th word!
but looks like there's still some trouble left and that's for the last episode! That exclamation mark warning on Criox phone and that missile poses as impending trouble!
The OST of LWA is mezmerizing!
5/5.
Couldn't help but laugh when Chariot pulled out a lightsaber. The fight itself was cool though.
Really touching moment between Akko and Chariot. Akko was finally able to express her feelings to Chariot after all this time.
The last fight got over way quicker than I thought. Not surprised there's one final thing to do. I'm going to be unfathomably pissed if something happens to Akko, like if she can't come back or some bullcrap.
Chariot and a lightsaber? And i thought i've seen everything xD
It was a great episode but i pretty much expected that Croix's creations would turn against her.
Chariot was so op! Her fighting moments were epic.
Glad that Akko saved everyone xD
Loved the moment between Akko and Chariot :3 <3
So sad that the next episode is the last one :(
