This was slightly less disturbing as an animation. But I can't fully let go of all the "reality weights" while watching it. It's funny, and certainly a lot more if I was able to go beyond the wall of bad things vehiculated here (I hope those elements will be crushed with humour).
The anime otaku touch might be funny, seeing that three out of four have the "normal" reaction. (btw, it seems like Evangelion is the name to give when you want to show your anime culture).

I did not really like how her hormones wake up instantly after the loss: no matter how nicely she was treated, it didn't affect her AT ALL before, then she gets excited for such small things.

3.5-/5 I'll wait to read the synopsis of later episodes to check if I'll watch it once it's finished (and then retry the manga). If not, maybe a drama will offer me a last chancebin the future.

At the end, none of those boys is well-thinking: no matter how friendly, peaceful (but without any interest), bad or disgusted they were in front of Miss Marshmallow, they instantly drooled over her 60% new body, either aggressively or while trying to look calm.
Add to that that the way the heroine is presented - a person drooling over highly fantasized homosexual relationships of the other sex - make her pretty repulsive to me. Especially because it reaches the point where she will shamelessly use real people of her environment whose opposite real sexual taste she knows to lust over imaginary things.

Some people seem to complain about the time it took her to become very slime, but the more fantasized part was where the fat was (not) taken.

@genesic123 Why "wish fulfillment"? She actually gets the opposite of what she thought she wanted. So, it starts rather more like a doom than a fulfilled wish.
I would never say "shit" about something I was interested in unless it was entirely unworthy of any compliment. Actually, even if it was horrible, I wouldn't insult any work.
If you are refering to my last sentence, it was again not a good/bad point but a tentative to cut the voices raising against the speed of the lipids disappearance.

I know about men's "standards". But since that one male would have the quality of not sharing the same reaction. (because they all hop to her like bunnies)

Of course, boys or girls are allowed to prefer a low fat percentage on their love interest XD I never wrote the opposite.
The problem here is: I read before (here) that boy X was more worth the girl because he was nicer than boy Y when they are actually all behaving similarly. I never wrote that it was bad for the anime (it wasn't even placed in my opinion of the episode, because I try to use paragraphes)

About your "evil" and "moral high grounds", I am pretty sure that you think the same as me. (nothing)

Hey everyone! Trying to lose some of that pesky fat? And by some I mean ALL of it. There's a simple solution: just starve yourself! Safe and effective. Clinically proven by anime.

Haha yeah okay. The episode had amusing parts, but I can't get past that shit. What a great message of this episode sends for girls and what a lovely generalization of guys this show was pushing for a good 90% of the episode (/sarcasm). Like, it thinks it's being cute and funny about it, which is worrying in itself. The 0-->100% superficial attention she received from the guys because she got skinny (by becoming anorexic) left a sour taste in my mouth. Jokes about almost anything can be funny when handled right, but this one was handled pretty ineptly.

That being said, the ending provided a glimmer of hope that the male characters actually have some depth. They are still clearly driven by ulterior motives, though. I would say I have to watch a few more episodes to properly judge, but idk if this is really my type of show.

Wow. This series is win. I'm not at the fujoshi level but I am overweight/chubby otaku so I felt like I can kind of relate a little to some of her thoughts.

In the end it was really entertaining. Have the urge to rewatch the whole episode again right now even (and that's rare for me lol)

Now if the guys just start trying to woe her in different ways instead of always accepting this group date thing they were doing this ep, this has potential best anime of this kind I've seen in a while

This is fucking hilarious.
Kobayashi's voice acting is Grade SSS perfect. Those faces and those noises are too much.

I can't say I like the motives of the guys. Seems that the chill senpai dude is the only one that seems like a decent person.

I actually wasn't expecting much from this (despite enjoying and being caught up on the manga), but Yuu Kobayashi absolutely nailed it. I was also pleasantly surprised how well the art from the manga translated to an anime format.
I think I probably enjoyed that first episode even more than I enjoy the manga. Hopefully this keeps up, though considering most of my delight with the first episode came from Yuu's performance I don't think there's anything to worry about.

It was kinda funny and comical, I guess.
I'm not a feminist or an sjw, but the problem I see here is how they turn to like the mc. I'll only give the upperclassman a pass, since he actually cared about the girl.
The whole idea of this little "plot" just triggers me and it makes me want to ask the author to reconsider his life choices. I feel like he's some kind of Hitler by making this setting up.

Looks good. Even though I'm not a hardcore feminist, I take exception with the fact that the show seems to be pushing the message that only slim people can be accepted as a romantic interest.

I accidentally saw the 2nd episode by mistake first, and it was really enjoyable, had I seen this episode first, I don't think it would've been the same. Meh episode, the MC's personality is a shittier here. And the fujoshi emphasis and focus is, uh, questionable

Kae's brother is so harsh yet so funny. Their brother-sister relationship is so realistic!
LOL lock yourself up in your room for a week, no food and water and you'll end up skinny - what is logic?

I'm actually loving this anime! MC is relatable and certainly one of the best looking otome MC's i've seen in while. I'm so much like Kae, I used to hide my otaku side from my friends and I eventually told them about it lol

IDC what anyone says or thinks!! I ship MC with Igarashi!! they're just too adorbs together, picture perfect and plus he was polite to her at the start, when she was an overweight sloth.

I think Igarashi looks abit like Sousuke from Free! <3

No one loses that much weight in a week. She looks like she weighed at least 100kgs (200+ lbs) she'd be lucky to lose 2 kilos in a week due to depression.

Kae losing weight that fast in only a week is complete BS, but seriously I wouldn't mind that kind of dramatic weight loss LOL. 24-Hour Fitness just got shitted on haha XD.

Anyways, holy shit Kae turned from a fat, chubby girl into someone who's really hot haha. Overall, this was definitely an interesting first episode and I'll continue watching this show.

Though I'm not sure how I will feel about the amount of reverse-harem going on here.

The author, Junko, is a woman and if you look at her previous works she mainly does yaoi doujinshi, so she's riffing on a culture she's a part of.

Maybe you should reconsider your claim of not being a SJW if you're going to assume a plot that "triggers" your gender equality sensibilities was written by a man and proceed to compare them to Hitler over it.

I've read a bit of the manga, and I just gotta say, phew it's hard to get through this a second time. I didn't realize just how much better it was to take this story at your own pace and not an anime's pace. This would actually be a little hard to take animated if it wasn't for the fact that Serinuma's color scheme is so damn pretty! Wow that pink outfit and her hair looked sooo nice! Agh she's gotta be a really fun character for the creator to dress up.

Wish I could lose a bunch of weight by falling into despair over a character's weight. A bunch of my fave characters have died and even though I despaired a lot I think I gained weight if anything. BUT, sad but true stuff: I'm usually a little chubs, but after I started working at a place where I'm always moving and on my feet, I lost a lot of weight, and now a lot of people tell me I'm "cute" or they straight up ask me out.;;

I've seen clips and the show looks funny/promising so I'll give it a try. Except for one thing, am I the only one finding Kobayashi Yuu's voice really hard to digest for this character? I've watched another one of her anime's, Maria Holic, except she does more of a male voice since her character is a boy in girl's disguise. Hopefully it doesn't bother me too much because this reverse harem seems to be very entertaining!

LOLLLLL I'm a huge fujoshi and lover of all things BL and this anime just from the first episode is friggin' HILARIOUS.

Unlike Kae however, I personally don't ship IRL people (good looking or otherwise) around me since my love for BL is only limited to anime and manga but its still really relatable anyway. I ship characters from the animes I watch that have a lot of guys in it (sports anime in particular; yes I'm one of those people lol) but that's usually because there's an excess of male characters and no girl character around.... a girl needs her romance, regardless of form.
