 An official website for Godzilla has been launched and announced that the multi-media franchise will receive an anime movie slated for 2017. Directors and scriptwriter, as well as studio, for the movie were also announced on the website. Director: Koubun Shizuno (Detective Conan), Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin) Original Story Plan, Script: Gen Urobuchi (Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) Studio: Polygon Pictures The movie will be based on the Godzilla franchise produced by Toho Company. The first film in the series premiered in 1954, and it has since received multiple movie adaptations, including the most recent movie, titled Shin Gojira, premiering on July 29 of this year. A Hollywood adaptation of the movie premiered in 2014, with a crossover movie currently in production and slated for a 2020 release, under the title Godzilla vs. Kong. While the animated movie will be the first anime movie in the franchise, the on-going TV anime Crayon Shin-chan has previously featured the Godzilla character. | Really excited for this. Gen Urobuchi has been working on this for the past 16 months already plus it's an original story that he'll be directly in charge/involved in like Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass Season 1 and the film, Expelled from Paradise plus Thunderbolt Fantasy his latest work. For his original works that he's directly involved in after coming up with the concept I seem to highly enjoy them, whenever he gives the project away to someone else to do (screenplay/series composition) it ends up meh to a flop for me, so glad to see him listed on screenplay as well. Seems like this will be a sci-fi version of Godzilla going by the futuristic spaceship looking thing and clothes they're wearing. Polygon Pictures make some amazing action scenes and suit the sci-fi genre very well, the recent Blame! trailer looks excellent and looks like they're improving on the character design front. The key visual looks excellent, so that's a good sign, just hope they improve their character movement for the non-action scenes. |

| Was kind of excited for this when I read about it, but can't expect much with Gen Urobuchi at the helm and personally I would have much rather seen a kids kaiju show with Godzilla than some "mature" sci-fi. |

| Sounds interesting enough, though the butcher has always been hit or miss for me. I've never been a big fan Polygon Pictures' character models and character animation, even with a movie budget (at least based on the trailer for Blame), but other than that their CG is pretty good. Ideally I'd like to see something like the CG the Gantz movie is using, but that's probably not going to happen. |
