The official website announced that anisong performer Kouji Wada has passed away on the morning of April 3 at the age of 42. His family announced that his cause of death was cancer in his upper pharynx and has already conducted a private funeral. Wada's former agency, Solid Vox, will hold a public service for his fans later in April.

Wada was first diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and he had recovered in 2005. The cancer reoccurred in 2011 and spread to his lymph nodes. In October 2013, after a 2-year hiatus, Kouji Wada returned to work after treating the cancer.

Wada debuted in 1999 when he first sang Butter-Fly, the theme song for Digimon Adventure. He continued to perform theme songs for the Digimon franchise and recently remastered his theme songs for Digimon Adventure tri. before passing away.

Read this in ANN and...;___; Butter-Fly (Digimon Adventure 01 OP) and other Digimon songs are my childhood ;__; A huge loss this year! RIP Kouji, you'll be a legend to the Digimon fans (that knows the original Japanese version).

I'm not as upset at this like I was with Paul Gordon's passing, but it's still really sad to hear, and a huge loss for the Digimon franchise. The man fought against cancer for years, managing to do so enough during his hiatus to return to his singing career because he loved it so much. Then he re-recorded his signature "Butter-Fly", and then "Seven", both beautiful songs that were remade better. I had hoped he won the battle for good.

I'm going to miss him. I didn't grow up with him, but my first exposure in high school left lasting impressions on me that I will never forget. So thank you, Mr. Wada. You left a legacy that cannot be matched, but it will live on on our love.

His musics not related to Digimon are also very good. Try "Bravery" and "Sketch" from the mini-album "Ever".
