"OH JESUS!"

This was kinda bad yo. And the animation was kinda shitty. I would like too see some more of it. As a TV serie.
Time to read the manga I guess.

uh. Nill was kind of... too tall. and didn't look like Nill. which was the biggest disappointment of the whole series, even worse than strange-looking Badou and Heine.
it's obvious that Miwa's artstyle is not really easy to animate, but still, uh, it could look better, i think D:

i hoped that this episode would make up for previous failures, but nope, it was even worse. after waiting about 3 years for Dogs anime, it was a big let-down. manga as awesome as this one needs better adaptation.

I agree on everything. Dogs is a crazy awesome manga and this in no way let any of that shine through :'< I hope that if they do end up doing a tv series, they really really change their method of going about it.

For the life of me, I cannot take engrish cursing seriously; everytime Heine said F off in some way, I just burst out laughing.

Good adaptation of manga. But still mediocre show. 6/10 - for me material from Dogs is just boring introduction to further story.

Completely agree with the comments about the art style. That is the real draw of DOGS; the glorious, minimalistic art style. David Production didn't do a good job with this at all, and I'm highly disappointed. Bad choices of music, and in general, not a good production.

Let's hope that if DOGS; BULLETS AND CARNAGE is ever made into a proper series, that some other production company will take over.

And I always thought that Haine was spelled with an 'a', not an 'e'.

Nice last episode, but overall this was a major disappointment. It just didn't feel as great as the manga did when I first read it and the average animation didn't help either. At least they did a god job with the voices (most of them anyway). Score; 6/10

This episode was surprisingly good. Heine had so much style. Loved his and Bishop's voices, and the general look of the city. The music was much better, as well.

Awesome when Heine said "fuck up, gentleman" lmao.

Well, at least Giovanni was awesome in it. But erm, the engrish, and the animation. 6/10.

To someone who has NOT read the manga yet, I thought it was very good, I'd give it a 9/10.

But I'm going to have to lower it to an 8/10 simply because it is only 4 episodes. This obviously has a TON of potential as an anime series, if the manga is as good as everyone says it is too (all the more so then...if they stick to the manga).

Hope they make this into a longer series sometime soon.

Like everyone has said, this anime was a disappointment to all of us manga fans. This just didn't do it justice. I really hope that if they do make a series that they definitely change studios or something. The manga's art deserves better. It's a shame this happens all too often in manga to anime series.

This episode was much better than I expected. Haine's intonation, dialogue, and facial expressions were less whiny and far more bloodthirsty than what I was afraid they would be.

Quite good.

Really? How is it a disappointment? It's a good OVA that is very slightly inferior to the manga original because of several small story and stylistic deviations, but overall, essentially the same.

Personally, I thought the main Dogs manga was a much bigger disappointment when compared against its action-packed, engaging one-shot origin.

After reading the original Dogs manga, this was the episode I was waiting to see the most, and I wasn't disappointed. I was surprised how well it covered everything in 15 minutes. Not sure why people are complaining about the animation. It may not be as fluid nor fast as most action shows, but it looked exactly like it came from the panels of the manga. Hopefully a full anime series will be adapted in the future. Its gotten me geared up to try and read the Bullets & Carnage series. Can't wait!

I'd give the entire show an 7/10.

It was quite good I think. I've read the DOGS manga so I still think the adaptation based on the storyline is alright. But erm how should I say it, if I remember correctly, Haine is a bit more psychotic in the manga whereas in the anime he seemed to be more...frenly??

Anyways, Badou is still my fav!!

Just an OVA isn't enough. It needs a series and a better animator. Anyhow, this episode was fine. I thought in this episodes often that the sound wasn't really right, but that could just be me. Anyhow, sticking to 6-7/10. It does have enough potential to get an actual series, so let's hope it'll get it.

It's a disappointment for the very reasons that you pointed out, especially the stylistic differences. The main reason i like the Dogs one-shot so much is the for art. Yes, it is essentially the same, however the way way the anime was carried out and produced is the disappointment. I was expecting the anime to look as amazing as the manga art wise, seeing as it was only 4 episodes long. I agree with the fact that the main Dogs manga is not as good as the one-shot -though this isn't really a fair judgment of it because I've only read one chapter.

For a short OVA this worked fine. I feel like the only one who actually is happy that the anime didn't copy the minimalist art style. No backgrounds on manga pages are one thing, but in something animated? D:

Oh Sakurai Takahiro voiced Heine. <3 I was expecting more angst but this turned out to be a little lighter. Heine looks different (softer) but still good. I thought it was day in manga when he was walking in the street but I think the atmosphere of the night was really good here. Overall, the art in this OVA is good (colors and shadings) but still some were bit different...that is compare to the manga. The sounds is above average. The opening track is nice. So, it's 7/10.

No, the mangaka writes it as Heine. His name is printed like that on artwork done by Miwa:

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/778/minitokyodogsbulletsand.jpg
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9772/heine.jpg

And as ashura pointed out, Heine is the correct spelling in German. Badou is actually spelled as Bado by the mangaka too, but I guess Viz doesn't know that...

Anywho, I really like the manga and seeing it taken on by a relatively inexperienced studio is disappointing. It doesn't do the manga justice, but I wouldn't say it's terrible either. The OVAs were fairly consistent with the manga and I'm glad to be able to see the characters in action. But I definitely agree that the art was lacking and sometimes very sloppy and the overall presentation wasn't as impressive as the manga was. I just hope the production of these OVAs means that Dogs is getting more popular and will get a regular series sometime in the future, preferably done by a more experienced studio.

Dunno, this particular episode didn't empress me as much as it did in the manga.
Probably the animation and the whole presentation/directing aren't that good enough. Too bland, not enough charisma. Whatever.

Still hope for the main B&C to get animated too.

You think wrong! Cliche? To a certain extent, especially with the Heine storyline, but far less than the majority of action anime, or 90 plus percent of the shoujo/drama/romance you watch, hoho!

We had an emo antagonist that was angry because of daddy issues, girl seeking revenge for the murder of her family, Heine, and then just a random comic relief character. I felt like I had seen each of those episodes done a million times before, and with better production, and an actual attempt at at story. The whole thing was very uninspired and lazy, the exception being the animation during the fight last episode.

True...but what's your point? It was executed incredibly, slightly less so than in the manga, but exceptionally well nonetheless.

Yes, when you get right down to its core, it is generic, but so is at least 95 percent of your list, much of which you give high ratings to. So, why are you applying a standard to Dogs that your romance/shoujo escapes?

I'm not saying that giving Dogs a low rating and disliking it are invalid, only that "it's generic" doesn't explain anything in your particular instance. It doesn't seem like the real reason.

That's where I disagree. I don't think that the show is executed exceptionally in any aspect. It's just executed.

As far as why I give shows high scores, its based on a few things. The show either has some good characters with engaging interactions inside a show with a clear story, despite its cliches; has a point of view I find intriguing; does a few technical things very well; if it's a comedy, is damn funny from beginning to end; or a mix of the previous four. Dogs doesn't do any of those things for me. It's 4 unrelated vignettes built around specific action scenes. The first episode, aside from the terrible developments towards the end, wasn't so bad, and in fact felt a little promising, but it went nowhere since it was self contained, and the subsequent episodes didn't bother to do as much as the first. So, since it only attempted one thing, and didn't do it successfully, it gets the score I gave it.

The first episode was a melodramatic gun battle, a short anime adaptation of John Woo.

The second episode was action comedy, and actually succeeded with its humor, an exceedingly rare accomplishment for any anime.

The third episode was a vicious, violent sword battle. All about action and revenge, with few ruminations.

The fourth episode was a science fiction action story.

And yet...you say they're all the exact same? Seriously? That's the diversity and range of 120 episodes of one of your shoujo romances, dude. If you didn't find it stylish, exciting, and fast-paced, that's fine.

But one-dimensional and overly generic, considering your own anime list? No way.
