This show is as weird as I remember it being. I watched a few episodes here and there when it was on toonami years and years ago . . . kind of remembering why I put it on hold.

It's weird and barely interesting to not be boring. Going to take me a while to finish this, unless of course it becomes more interesting later on.

Quite the life foreshadowing here, isn't it?
"It doesn't matter where you go, you'll always be connected".

Something new happens.. we got a girl involved with the Wired who looks like Lain and a man who knows her for some reasons. This guy goes nuts and kills two people after taking a drug called "Accela" who accelerates calculating and processing capacities and when he sees Lain, who seem to have a change of heart and makes herself look like she knows more than she actually declares.
Lain continues to have this "visions" of a girl and an unknown man starts to follow her.

I don't know how to try to connect the dots yet, so let's keep going with the watch because I am intrigued nonetheless.

Rock dad. Gave her daughter a beast rig. It's progressing really slow. The background art looks gorgeous. The music is atmospheric and a little bit creepy. Now all I have to do is let Lain embrace me.

"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

Very interesting and informative episode.
Now we know that everyone is connected somehow. It's probably through the "wired". My two theories are that 1. everyone is literally connected on a physical or spiritual level to the "wired" or 2. it's all just a metaphor for the fact that everybody uses navis all the time.

That guy ,that actually kind of looked American rather than Japanese, who was creeping behind that electrical pole, was probably also from the "wired"

In this episode,we came across more hints at how the wired world is connected to the real world and Lain. We saw those black figures come out of the wall in front of Lain in the middle of the episode. They were also related to that person in front of her that they showed last episode. I believe that that person is the embodiment of all the people that died that went to the wired world. I think this because that person always has those changing horrified expressions it it's face that seem to be from different people. I also think that Lain is either the only one who can see the people of the wired world, or she can see them more easily than most others.

In the final scene, we see that guy shoot people after taking that drug. I believe that that drug might link people to the "wired world" more or give them a feeling of what its like to be in the "wired world." This is because your brain speed accelerates which could be similar to how fast wired speed is like the internet. He probably saw things from the "wired" and they freaked him out and he couldn't take it so he just went on a rampage. I think he freaked out more when he saw Lain because she has the strongest link between the real world and the "wired" so she might have looked different or seemed more scary to the guy because he could see further beyond the normal world. When she told him the unfortunate truth, which is that everyone is connected, he simply couldn't live with it anymore and he was driven to suicide because of this reality shattering realization he had, which is that all the crazy things he was seeing were all a real thing and that they were part of the world which probably shattered his mental state completely.

Overall, very informative episode. Also, on a side note, this a bit of a stretch, but when it showed that movement panel at the beginning of the episode when the screen switched from Lain to the school girls and her sister, it was shown for an abnormal amount of time which could be hinting at the fact that Lain feels distant from them.

Yea I would have been pissing my pants if I saw what she just saw with the ghost and stuff. well its nice to see someone in this family show some type of physical contact seems everyone else is so cold. hmm another odd episode with another suicide.

Lain's got a double personality, whether it's a conscious change or not. Sorta confirmed at this point with the multiple hints from her friends and the obvious change to her voice at the end of the episode.

She's also incredibly involved with the suicides, which we now know are related to the Wired infiltrating the real world. She may even be the one causing people to kill themselves, hence the almost guilty hallucinations she has about them. But her regular self has little knowledge of this, especially with the way she acted towards the mail from Chisa-chan.

Really interesting so far. Still many questions to be answered.
Hope the series will deliver.

I also agree that something is wrong with Lain. The way she just stares at things is definitely not normal.

It's been said that these first two episodes are actually a great way to describe "what schizophrenia is like" (actual schizophrenia, not multiple personality disorder) to someone.

For those wondering whether to continue on, the pace picks up and the show becomes "easier to watch" going forward. For those used to American show pacing (or dubbed-only anime), these first two eps can be a pretty high hurdle.

This is a dark series, it was interesting and different. Though, I don't understand that man that Lain keeps seeing and what's going on there. And also, why do we need the voiceless text for on a different background?

Eh I don't like how the tech looks. In the first place, I'm not a tech person. But it can't be helped, it's an old series. Only a year older than me.

Man the characters are annoying me already. Lain is always staring at stuff, too. That bothers me, tho she's still better than others.

Lol that reminded me that I need to upgrade my pc soon, too.
As slow as ever. I just hope I remain interested in it until it gets a bit more exciting.

I don't like Lain's friends. The last few seconds were interesting. Also I hate the ED song, the singer sounds dead.

Even more freaked out by Lain that's for sure. I'm wandering if it really was her, thou it wouldn't make any sense (is it useful or even possible to talk about sense within this series?) it was her cause i don't think she's dealing with memory loss issues.

Still, loved how out of everything she was when compared to her friends, kinda reminds me of myself in a sense.

I can't believe the last minutes of this episode, i was like WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?!? MOOOOVE!?!?! i was so worried and having the guy commit suicide was wicked.

On to the next one.

Still so many questions but I think I understand more than I did after ep 1.

Lain is somehow connected to the Wired and she seems to be unaware of the fact.

These Accela pills also are related to the Wired. Maybe it allows you to see how everyone is connected like Lain said at the end of the episode.

Lain seems to have two different personalities and may be the same person their friends saw.

I'm really interested. I hope I'll be able to understand it without looking it up.

Was he "chatting" with "someone" ... maybe with his "imaginary friend"?

Or maybe it was just the computer trying to find Mails. (Although he was heard typing)

The question isn't "What anime do you like?" That is merely a list.
The question is "Why do you like it?" That tells a story. Your story.

Wow what an episode! Lots of mind fuckery. Some of the animation really does remind me of the original Ghost in the Shell.

Lain getting that top of the line Navi at that time. It's like getting a GTX 1080ti in current days. It's amazing how technology has evolved in the last 20 years.

So now Lain may have unconsciously doing stuff?! Could it be that by the end of this show. She will be the goddess of the net world!

Lots of speculations!! Can't wait for the next one!
