THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
They have already arrived to where the childhood guy grew up. Wind tribe people treating the princess well, and the childhood guy's younger brother is cute, but weak from the sickness. Seems like Nobu voiced another character Hande (?) before voicing the announced one.

Then some staff of each tribes are called (including Ishida-san's character who is from Water Tribe) to name that cousin guy a king, only the old guy from wind refused, so bad things happens to it. Childhood guy wanting the old guy to accept that and he will leave the tribe leaving the princess in the tribe.

Seems like the princess follows him and start to become stronger in next ep.

Aww, Tae-yon is cute. And also, he is Hak's younger brother? Nice. Also good to meet Hak's other allies. I'm not sure if Rina fits as a name for Yona though. Can't be helped I guess.

The wind tribe is really friendly ^^

Su-Won gathering the tribe to declare himself king and seeking approvement from all 5 clans! The elder's way to decline Su-Won's offer and understanding the situation!

Sigh, the fire clan blocking the river and the heir making moves to attack the merchants. The elder is a pretty cool person! Him talking with Hak and Hak deciding to leave.
Especially liked when the elder indicating he will take it as an order and nothing else!
That tear coming down :/

Good thing it is not happening at the pv with Hak taking it all to himself, or else the evil will prevail!

Hak is a true man/leader. His decision is the best for the Wind Tribe, who look like a peaceful lot. Although Yona will have to leave too I guess.

Nice and relaxing ep. Love the Wind tribe. They're so chill XD

Yona was really cute this ep. She's finally relaxing :3 Gotta admit Tae-yon was cuter though XD

Nice seeing Hak being amazing as usual ^^ and was a nice scene seeing Soo-Won Thanking Mun-duk for thinking of him as a grandson. This guy really has more to it than meets the eye.

Anyway...who cares about any of that!!! NXT EP IS SO DAMN HYPE!! That scene is finally gonna be animated >.<!! Dem Yona serious glare in the PV!! :D

Oh no!!! They are now stripping off some of the comedy stuff from the manga so that they can animate a lot of material.
I guess it can't be help But if they do skip something a lot of thing next time I will definitely get angry with them!

EDIT:
[spoiler]
Why the hell they don't just include it if it's just few scene? Is it really difficult?!!!
Like the Granpa being funny again to Hak (hilarious caring;chummy) or Hak taking girl used as example for Yona.
Or just take a look on this.

As a man my first reaction to this episode was that TAE-YEON WAS SO CUTE!

Overall the episode was good. It gave good insight into the current political situation of the kingdom as well as a glimpse of two of the clans.

The next episode promises to be epic one.

Good episode. I despise the other tribes for standing behind Soo-Woon. If you think it through you'll eventually notice that something's wrong.
And I get the feeling that Yona wants to do something as well, not only patiently waiting and be treated as if she needn't do anything.

Even though they have no solid reason for disapproval, I do wish the other tribes were more hesitant to appoint Soo-Won as the new king. They're only hearing one side of the story; I would expect them to be wise enough to not make rash decisions.

Hak displayed his leadership skills well. His priorities are set; it's hard to not like him.

I'm glad they subverted Tae-yon's illness forcing a fight. Even with a considerably better explanation than most cases of collapsing, it felt a bit... contrived, I guess? It served its purpose well.

Yona is finally getting over the initial wave of depression. It looks like she's a little more bold in the preview too.

I saw someone mention that they're stripping comedy from the manga: As a non-manga reader, I'm glad they're doing so. The comedy wasn't translating well for the most part, I think, and what little bit of comedy there was in this episode didn't mess up the mood. I hope they continue to remove comedy as needed.

It was a good episode overall.

Nice one. Short little time of some peace.

I know this is a weird thing to say, but her earrings totally annoy me. Those things look really impractical and are probably hella expensive (and reveal her as something more wealthy than a fired court lady).

This is really shaping up to be a great show, the slow pace is actually working really well in the show's favor.

I think many have grown too acclimated to shorter 12-13 episode series it's harder to appreciate the slower 22-26 series like this one. I love Hak and Yona's relationship together and all the insights of their childhood from the previous episode add to the relationship.

The comedy elements do help balance things out but they don't drag the mood down too much I think.

Not sure whether to still think of Soo-Won as a bad guy yet, seeing how he was thankful to hear that Mun-deok considered him as a grandson. I bet he's being deceived unknowingly..

Tae-yeon is cute! I love how innocent he is; asking Yona if the food tasted bad because she's crying and calling her weird afterwards. :3

Fire tribe works fast! It didn't even take them a full day to dam the river. Glad that Hak was able to maintain order during the crisis.
Loved his conversation with Mun-deok at the end; deciding to go rouge for the sake of the Wind tribe and requesting to take care of Yona. This guy is great!

Decent episode. Next week's PV looks awesome though! Hak being badass again and Yona looking resolute! Nice character developments incoming!

It's quite possible to be the antagonist without being a "bad guy" since this is really about the high politics of a small country under perpetual threat by the great power next door. King Il was seen as being a weak king who was buying time by making concessions to the adjacent empire. Changing policy requires the removal of the king, so the coup could have either been the result of a move by the factions that wish to actively oppose the empire by military means, or the simple ambition of Soo-Won although it seems obvious that he could have eventually secured the throne simply through the expedient means of marrying Yona. And even if he wasn't as fond of her as she was of him, well accidents happen and childbirth is always a risky time for women... a widowed Soo-Won with a young heir to the throne and a long regency period would be in a pretty powerful position.

Other issues are that the small kingdom can't really afford internal conflict in case the empire is in an expansionist period. The change of ruler is always a chancy time and if a civil war breaks out, the empire next door may "lend a hand" to one of the factions (if they didn't support it secretly from the start). Soo-Won may be genuinely affectionate towards the old general, or he just might be relieved that he can use that relationship to secure his hold on the throne.

I suspect that we'll find out eventually that the empire has some responsibility for this state of affairs. We know Hak and Yona are clean, but we don't know yet just what really lies behind Soo-Won's faction and the coup.
Please don't feed the trolls!

You mean when you'll finally find out what the story is about...? Probably won't happen until episode 6.

Tae-Yeon is adorable~ All the Wind Tribe people are really chill and nice. I think it's the best place for Yona to get back her senses. We also get to see Hak and his leadership skills, everyone likes him and teases him, but will listen when he gives an order. It was sad to see Mun-deok shed a tear when he was ordered by Hak, but it's the most logical choice in order to protect Yona. Another sad moment was when Mun-deok said that he had seen Soo-won as his grandson. Oh how things have changed. I don't think Soo-won is entirely a bad guy per se, even he was happy to hear that Mun-deok had thought of him that way.

I think it's fine without the comedy. I think it's actually somewhat out of place. I really rather they burn through the material at a good pace without rushing and trying to cram all the content in.

And looks like the series will take a while for us to meet the other characters. But I like how it's shaping up so far.

The other tribes accepting Soo-won so easily is actually not surprising although it is not as clear in the anime as it is in the manga. It is more obvious to manga readers since we have that info but it has been said. In the manga it was more clearly shown that most of the tribes see King Il as a coward and they thought that Soo-won the better choice.
I understand why some anime viewers are unhappy with the other three tribes accepting so readily but this is just another case of somethings needing to be cut-out due to time constraints.

As a manga reader, I'm slightly bummed out that they didn't add a certain Mundok comedic scene
- I thought it made him seem more down-to-earth, goofy and doting as a grandpa.

However, at the same time, like few others said, I rather see them pace out the story properly and not ruin the flow. From what I saw so far, especially in episode 1, they haven't been handling the comedic scenes successfully (which I admit felt really weird, contrived and didn't click with me like it did in the manga).

Though I do highly recommend reading the manga after the anime finishes - I thought some of the comedic scenes are actually funny and make some of the characters more endearing.
-------------
Anyhow, the anime has been okay so far. They still need to work lowering the music slightly and putting it at the right places. But this anime did remind me why I love Hak so much<3

Also, I'm actually kind of excited for next episode :)

Someone from Random Curiosity said last week that it seems to be just CrunchyRoll's issues. So if you're watching it from CR or HS then you'll have these sound issues. I'm not sure if other subs have the same problems though.

"I don’t know if Funimation has released Yona yet for further comparison, but the sound mastering problems are limited to CR’s releases so far. I compared the ATX raw (I’ve never encountered issues with sound when watching AkaYona live) to CR’s rip for episode 2, and the TV airing’s BGM doesn’t overpower Yona’s voice at the end the same way it does in CR’s master.
I’ve only compared CR and ATX though, idk if the other TV airings or NicoNico have any issues." -Kiseki's comment

Hmm okay - I've been watching it on another anime site, but the video may have come directly from CR. But even without that issue, I still feel the placement of music is a little awkward at times or doesn't fit certain scenes too well. But thanks for the heads up!

Wait...the logic behind their decision at the end doesn't compute. Hak feels he's endangering the tribe with his presence, but somehow they're gonna hide a princess with bright red hair for the long term??? Their place of refuge should have obvious a mile away. SW should have had a military dispatch waiting for them LOL. But maybe this was his plan all along idk.

Like others here, the immediate acceptance of SW's confirmation by the neighboring tribes seemed hokey. But it appears there's been tacit agreement that he's the stronger leader to begin with, so I'm fine with it--especially given the historical context.

The comedy, however, is really sticking in my craw, especially when immediately following dramatic buildups.

The music is pretty damn good. Probably the best part of the show for me.
