THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

Decent start so far imo. The OP song seems to be lighthearted but wow, that's a lot of cows XD

Seems like most of the main characters are introduced. Whoa, knife scene. Well, it censored though with the chickens. Poor chickens lol It's all about the eggs and it looks delicious!

Art was mediocre. Inada was awesome. I had not seen that type of female character for ages.
LOL @ eggs. I had not known the truth until seeing this anime. It was educational.
Overall the episode was so so; not bad, not impressive.

Moral of the episode: Animals would run away if you attempted to catch them.

Headless chicken is censored LOL
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Good start to what people(Including me) are expecting to be a pretty good series due to the author behind it and acclaim the manga has gotten

The timing of those chickens getting their heads cut off with blood spattering everywhere and the censoring was just too funny

It was OK. A modest impact compared to any of the Moyashimon series, with a focus on Dairy Studies.
... I love blue cheese and green cheese... Cheese and yogurt in general... Anyway, I completely understand that Hachiken guy. Will not run 20 km at 5 in the morning for the hell of it.

What is Connie doing here? :P

EDITED

i've been waiting since i've read the manga. this one kinda brought me down. the manga is great, but i think the anime is not too good. the art is mediocre. that's fine. but the punchline upbringing isn't strong. the scene that should be laughed at didn't do as fine as manga.

I'm getting a Honey and Clover kind of feel about this. I hope it goes in a similar way. It's definitely unique already so that's already nice

I'm loving this! The whole time I was just smiling XD Seeing Gin no Saji being animated is just great. The OP and ED were really nice and relaxing, didn't know that miwa was singing the OP. Nice first episode, I was laughing as much as I did when I read the manga. The calf chewing on Hachiken's clothes, the headless chicken, the horse chewing on Hachiken's head...hilarious. So far, so good. I also liked some of the relaxing bgm.

Ahhh that was great. I missed Arakawa's humour, I laughed a lot. I'm back to the situation in which I like all the characters. This usually happens with what Arakawa writes.

I can't wait for the next episode, I really enjoyed this first episode.

Wow that was really good.

They adapted the atmosphere really nicely :)

All the VAs are really fitting.

Damn now that I'm watching it from the beginning I can feel how much Hachiken developed as a character.

Lol'd so much at the scene where the guy chopped the chicken so casually and blood spurt on them XD
Then his egg-anus trauma XD
And "Are they speaking in code???" XDXDXD

Do I need to watch FMA or FMA Brotherhood or any of Arakawa Hiromu other work before this, cause honestly from what I've read in the synopsis this sounds very unintriguing & I don't know what all the hype is about other than the author's fame.

No you don't have to read anything else by her. This is separate from anything else she's done.

This is very enjoyable! Granted, Arakawa Hiromu is my favourite mangaka and FMA:B is my favourite anime so coming into this I had extremely high expectations. This first episode has definitely met those expectations. It has a nice heartwarming and humorous atmosphere.

XD Anus eggs I didn't really expect much from this anime since I didn't read the manga, but it was pretty good I have to say. Plus I saw a few characters that looked similar from FMA, which was very funny. The comedy was good, the story was nice and music fitted the atmosphere, so I'm gonna continue watching.

As a learner of Japanese I freaking loved this: lots of new farming-related vocabulary, elements of the local dialect (the one I noticed so far is the particle "-be") and, most importantly, readily available Japanese subs! Together with the chicken anus lecture, I can honestly say that I learned something today! Oh, and the humour was enjoyable as well. 5/5

Loving the BGM and the ED especially. I laughed so hard when Tamako was flying in the air, and Hachiken tried to save her but he started flying too. xD I really hope we find out more about Hachiken's past in the coming episodes, I'm really interested.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode a lot. It was fun, cute, and really felt like the "start of an adventure". :) The animation is simple, but it's pleasing to the eye and nice to watch.

I am a city girl, but I really didn't understand Hachiken's crazy aversion to eggs coming from the anus. Or cloetus or whatever. >__>" I would have eaten it all the same. xP But gosh, are these guys brutes. No culture clubs? I would die; I'm soo clumsy.

Oh, and HachikenxAki would be a cute couple! Hope he joins the Equestrian club. :D

aren't you a sharp one? you can see HachikenxAki in the manga. i wonder if the anime would put it, since it's pretty far away.

I know this is separate from everything else she's done,I just meant I don't really see anything here, other than her fame that's causing the hype.I'm about to download the episode to check it out,but not expecting much.

Hm it could be her fame, it could not be. When the manga first came out after she finished FMA, a lot of people didn't like it because it was so different from FMA. It's not even that hyped I don't think? I personally love it because I find it funny, educational in some ways, and I also love slice of life. Also, it's not everyday that you come across a farming manga (and I guess now anime). If you don't end up enjoying this, it's probably because you aren't in the target audience.

but I liked it :D they included those "informational pieces" maybe more than in manga but it's fine.

Hachiken's voice is very different than what I imagined when I was reading the manga but I'm getting used to it.

Silver Spoon is different from the fast-paced, action-packed Full Metal Alchemist but it still has what Arakawa does best: diverse and interesting characters all with their own quirks and idiosyncrasies, a world you can immerse yourself into, a peak into the agricultural lifestyle, and of course, humor. Arakawa-style.
And there will be food. Lots of tasty food.

lol Hachiken reminds me of myself a bit with the being tired all the time and no stamina. xD

Only difference is I've been around farm animals all my life and I actually took agricultural classes in high school. Although we learned more about how to operate the shop's machinery than we did about livestock and breeds. xD

That being said this will probably be one of my favorite anime of the season along with ServantxService and Free!

He seems to be pretty much a city boy who has never thought about the food on his plate. The students remind me of all the farmer's kids who went to my high school (our family farm was too small at 320 acres to make an economic go of it so that option wasn't open for me or my brothers)--totally focused on what they needed to know to take over the business. I don't have an issue with where eggs come from, I do have an issue with the living conditions of the chickens who produce them (and the other animals in our food chain), so it was nice to see Keiji comment on that.
