Awesome opening and ending, this episode really seemed there to explain more about the world psycho pass is in and what it is like to us showing us the technology, the attitudes of the people and pointing out to us why the psycho pass is in the end a flawed system . I like our lead as she is very human and relatable, so many people here hate Akane for bein "Naive" but I am betting every single one of you here would do the same as her in her situation, plus even in this episode you can see she is starting to develop(she feels useless and like a crutch to the other members) and she clearly has a ulterior motive to joining the police force than just the lack of students.

I don't get the love for the male lead whathisface either, he is just some stereotypical anime emo boy at the second, he doesn't have all that much defining him from the rest of the crowd.

I also don't get the people saying this isn't as good as Gen's other shows like Madoka or Fate/zero to which I say: Episode 2, both Fate Zero and Madoka Magica had average/boring first episodes as well and you can't compare a show still on episode 2 to two other shows that are completely finished.

Such a good show... I love when alternate societies are portrayed in cinema. It makes you look at your own society and notice it's "make up," and ask yourself how far are we from some of the elements featured in this show.

Excellent stuff.

Hmmm...

So that's what a 2.5D world looks like...

I wonder what she's really everyone's wearing underneath... maybe a bodysuit?

It's awesome how there's a "maid" that measure your daily health scan, mood scan as well as calorie intake. I wonder if those things will be invented within my life time ^_^

I really liked this episode.

Looks like Akane is well on her way to reform the society. (Though seeing this is Urubochi's work... I doubt she'd accomplish much)

In this episode they mostly focus on technology in the future.
They hinted on a goal that Kougami has.

Good episode, good to see that the main guy may not be a testosterone-poisoned moron and may actually have some brains and sense.

So far, either this or "From the New World" may be my best anime this season; still kinda iffy on this because there is a slight chance that it might turn into testosterone-poisoned nonsense like Sengoku Basara, Devil May Cry, and, to a lesser extent, Hellsing. (*shudders* Devil May Cry)

I would put Shinsekai Yori on equal footing. The good part is that both are SF series and use different approaches. It's much easier to compare them.

Did anything actually happen in the episode besides fanservice?

uh yeah. And the fanservice wasn't even that overdone. This episode set up Akane's relationship with three of her enforcers, as well as revealing that there is something we don't know that is driving Akane. The same can be said about the enforcer she shot, he said "I have unfinished business". I think this episode was pretty fluff free.

As for my thoughts on the episode, not bad. It started off pretty slow (lol at the people complaining about fanservice). That's not fanservice. That's a single girl living at home. The episode showed that even when she's at home with her "cute?" jellyfish thing doing everyday things (at least she's showering, that's more than what the Turkish people do), she antagonized herself over the decision she made. By the end of the episode after discussing it with her fellow Enforcers, she gained the confidence in that she made the right decision.

I wonder how that clothing/room technology works. Makes a hologram or changes the fabric ala replicator from Star Trek? Anyway, quite a lot of possibilities for it. Was that some hot lesbian sex indicating scene in the middle? That's nice. The dialog between Tsunemori and Kougami could have used more work though, felt poorly executed.

Akane is moe, no matter what we have been promised. 5/5.

I doubt it's a mere coincidence that Shion had to pull up her stocking right when Yayoi walked out of the room.

There's a certain shine to this show that keeps me hooked in this episode. I'm not sure what it was and really not much happened but I was interested in the new characters. I didn't necessarily like all of them although they caught sustained my attention regardless.

Also I was fascinated by the technology showcase in the opening. I wish I had a jellyfish companion like that who could transform a grimy apartment.

Can't wait to see how the plot develops.

A leader that asks her subordinates for permission or sympathy. A perverted nurse/assistant with big boobs archetype. A mysterious, charismatic, but conflicted male lead revealed. The theme so far seems to be "justice against all odds", but unfortunately the writers took the naive, idealistic path instead of a nuanced path. The saving grace is Shusei Kagari's rant that puts Akane in her place. I hope they don't get any more preachy about the flaw of preemptive judgement -- it's not like anyone is contesting this in the first place. Perhaps if they chose a more 3-dimensional subject and made a more 3-dimensional argument, it would be more interesting to contemplate, but in 21st century humanism, this amounts to telling monkeys about a banana. I hope Akane loses her insecurity and gains more confidence, or this is going to get old real fast. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a less intellectual version of Ghost in the Shell.

Fanservice where exactly? It was all totally natural and relevant... If you consider any nudity and sexual undertone fanservice I feel sorry for you. Heck even GitS had Motoko in some state of undress at times.

Show remindes me a bit of GitS but I guess it's inevitable, not too many cyberpunk police anime out there (I guess Birdy and Patlabor and that's about it). Hope it stays good.

Hmm.. we saw some interesting technology in this episode. So they can simply makes clothes materialize like that? Or are they just changing the appearance by changing the of an already put on outfit by changing the molecular structure?
I guess the same concept goes with those funny suits they had. We also got a little more insight on how this world works by the conversations Akane had with her friends and that guy. It really seems like a society that puts people completely into a molt. Very likely a system that benefits the government.
Also did i noticed a probable sexual intercourse between Yayoi and that doctor. the one was fixing her tie exciting the door and the other was putting her socks back on.

You don't know what fanservice is. This guy say it exactly like it is:

I liked it. I can't understand how anyone can hate Akane. What she did in episode one was tooootally the right thing. I have had friends AND family that were sexually abused, and they said they had all these emotions going through them and they just wanted to hurt. Killing that lady DEFINITELY would not have been the right answer, and I can't believe anyone could fault her for realizing that. Mentality like that makes me sick... -.-

Weird though. The entire house is decorated with holograms and crap, catering to what you want? Lol. Even clothes too? Wow, so beneath all the "beauty" it's actually all bland and gray. Hmm.

Ahhh I want to like this show but the main girl is irking me - personality wise and appearance wise. I'm not that shallow when I watch anime but seriously, her character design is really ugly, IMO. She also spent an entire episode getting sad over what she did before. :/

The action was only for a minute or so. LOL It was kind of funny to watch two cartoon characters attack a criminal.

Dang, I wanna live in the year this anime is in. Clothes changing eletronics, hologram interior design, aptitude tests that show you what job to do. DAYUM.

A house with customized environment, cooking machine, side-kick virtual intelligent, instant costumes change. Wow, this is a great utopia, or isn't it?

This episode is full of talking but very informative. There are 2 classes of citizens based on the Psycho-Pass (Crime Coefficient, which is just a fancy way of saying a probability that someone will commit a crime) value. The Psycho-Pass of criminal tendency is measured constantly from young age to determine a child's future. A child with low score is given certain freedom to become normal citizen, while any child with high Psycho-Pass like Kagari is doomed to be latent for the rest of his life. Here lays the 2nd inherit flaw of the system (probably intentional) to keep latent from becoming normal. Latents are probably mistreated, neglected, or in Kagari's case was kept to be a lapdog for the police, shooting people. This prevents him to lower his Psycho-Pass score, which kept him in his place with no way out. Thus, the system on the surface sounds fair but it actually was designed to maintain a certain number of latents in society. A well-disguised class system indeed.

Contrary to most people here, I think Akane is the voice of reason in this series. Everyone was so mesmerized on how sophisticated the system is, and faulted Akane for being naive, preventing Kougami from doing his job. Well, her "naive" is more like knowing what's right from wrong. if she didn't do it, we now have a death of an innocent victim, and the whole place might have blown up, killing everyone. She also helped Kougami in ep 2 realized that he is not an emotionless lap dog of the police. Hence, Akane is a solid character, an integral part of the story.

some nice character development in this episode giving an insight into what the main girls job entails and such and we get to see more virtual stuff which was interesting to watch especially her own personal jellyfish xD and switching clothes instantly (if only it was that simple eh?) and i didn't even remember that much fan service so it definitely wasn't over the top for me at all...... still liking it, but the main girl is bothering me just hope she doesn't ruin this series because her aside, this could be so good :/

im commenting only because i feel like this episode is underappreciated. the pilot was obviously better, but i thought there was nice character progression in this. akane went from slightly annoying and teary to more resolute, i loved that moment when she submitted her report at the end. uh the main guy seems kind of boring, but my favourite moment was when that blonde guy decided not to be nice.

he looked like one of those cutesy playboys who tease the new girl and treat her nicely because they may/may not have a semi-crush. then hes all like "ok nvm not gonna be nice to you STOP CRYING WHY ARE YOU HERE." i hope this series has more of those moments.

Good Episode, liking most characters.

Don't really understand the criticism of Akane, she is cute and her actions (shooting Kougami), while naive, are understandable and show a moral character that most of the other characters seem to lack...

Woah what. What just happened. It seemed like nothing even happened in this episodes, but there were things that did. But it seemed to go by quickly. I like how it told so much in the episode, but it still seemed short. Plus I like the animation for the OP. Pretty legit.

I have a prediction or two now:

At the very beginning of the episode, I thought that maybe Akane would become so disgusted with the way things were, and want to change things so much, that it turned her psycho pass cloudy. But near the end of the episode it seems less likely. But I also like how she seems to become more serious and in control of herself near the end.

I predict that I will really like this character.

Quite loving the setting here, the sci fi take is really neat and fits perfectly! I also like the slight development character wise, the usual life combined with some slight action sure made up for a good episode!

The OP & ED are also quite nice, I'm also a fan of the artwork here:
