A powerful and frustrating ending at the same time... Aku no Hana is an instant fave, which is quite rare with me. Everything in this show blew my mind, I'll definitely read the manga soon.
I feel sad for the people who couldn't get over the unusual animation, they missed something huge.

For me the ending was really bad if you've ever read the manga you'll understand and I'm talking about chapter 56 I really didn't want nakamura to Ending up being alone while that mf kasuga is getting along with some Normie girl I totally understand what's the meaning of being a weirdo nakamura was at the right side I just wish if they died together back then it would be for the best instead of seeing all that kind of shit happening I know people need to move on and getting a better life but that's not what I wanted to see when I decided to read this shit my expectations were to see an ending when nakamura and kasuga are living happily together while doing weird stuff I really cried so bad and I even got depressed because of the Ending after reading this manga being lonely might actually be the best since you'll never meet weird people who'll understand you and staying single is also for the best .
The author should commit supiko

Lol, I can't tell if she's angry or happy

So this time Kasuga is the one suggesting to make a contract...

Yeah, tbh I'm interested to see the conclusion of these 2 deviants, so I'm going to head into the manga, it's only 54 chapters and it has a different artstyle...

My 34th completed series chronologically.

For the record, I extended it an 8/10 rating.

Man, if this series had sold well in Japan it would not only had received a second season. But also there could have been a chance for an anime adaptation of Good Night Punpun. Both series are really similar in tone and aesthetic.
This is why we rarely see mature anime being adapted. It just doesn't sell. Such a shame.

Blame the director for rotoscoping.

God, what a ride this was. Initially having doubts over the animation and the Male MCs voice acting, but it later become pretty irrelevant as the anime progressed.

It's been a long time since I've gone into an anime almost completely blind, it's quite an experience. Criminally underrated from what the score suggests, oh well. I suppose a lot of people dropped early on. Easy 9/10 for me.

It manages to create a unique atmosphere and tension better than most, the soundtrack used was brilliant, enhancing the experience. I never check out the manga afterwards, but as this will probably never get a 2nd season, you kind of have to...

You know, reflecting on the series I think everyone focused too much on how the animation looked rather than the actors behind it, and that's just a bit sad bc they did amazing.

guess i'll go cry while reading the motionless and silent rest of the story...

I saw this a while back and still to this day, like the anime version more for the visuals and bizarre and uglier direction it took since it fit the kind of series way better than the manga art. People then and now just want everything to look pretty and "well-animated" without seeing what kind of visuals the director and staff were trying to portray with this. It's fucked up, it's spine-chilling and during scenes like the breakdown at the classroom, it's terrifying yet cathartic. It's captured way better than the manga art which looks a lil more generic when comparin.

Director did work on Mushishi too so the guy knows his directing and building of atmosphere really well. Shame this move of adapting rotoscoping to live-action to work in anime failed miserably with BDs and therefore, killing chances of s2. Really sucks ass.

Agh, yeah I was so disappointed when I realized there's never gonna be a s2, but yes, the manga looks kinda generic, and in this way it really brought the true emotion of the story. Like when they walk back from destroying the classroom, in the manga that's just one page (it'd be weird if it were more than one tho) and in the anime it was more than 6 minutes I think. It just hits differently.

Flowers of Evil is definitely a unique anime.

I do like the artwork since it adds an element of creepiness to it (I really dont think that the standard computerized animation would have achieved the creepiness-factor that would have captivated the viewers).  I also really loved the creepy background noises, since it does help set the creepy mood.

What I dont like about Flowers of Evil is that it has bad pacing. One 20-minute episode felt like sitting for an hour.  And because the pacing was bad, I really do wish that this anime was around 10 episodes instead of 13 episodes. It was really difficult to try to watch more than one episode per day.  But because this anime has that creepy-factor to it, it makes you want to finish the anime even if youre not enjoying it as much due to the bad pacing.

I will say, many times this anime is a little too silly to be taken seriously, that I sometimes would just watch it for the LOL's of it.

But its an anime that did its best to try to distance itself from the norm, with the artwork and the background sounds/noises. So props to them for that.

A very unsatisfying ending. They just showed a bunch of 1 second clips with no context. And Kasuga is a moron for following Nakamura when Saeki was wife material. All because Kasuga couldn't communicate.

Quite specific ending foreshadowing future events that might happen in Part 2. Too bad that this episode was released years ago and we didn't see any anime sequel to Aku no Hana. Oh well.

I liked this show. Unique take on animation (brilliantly done rotoscopy) was one thing, but the atmosphere and direction were another things I absolutely adored while watching this anime.

Actually, this show made me want to pick up the manga and give it a try to know the rest of the story.

What an unsatisfying ending. I almost feel like they just shouldn't have adapted it at all if they weren't gonna adapt everything. Just putting a montage of future events is already stupid, but imagine if you wanted to continue the rest by reading the manga. They just spoiled a lot of it (which this anime is oddly obsessed with doing).

Also, Nakamura was creepy as hell with her thumb point when she caught MC reading her notebook.

Interesting.
Sad it was so poorly received, so it will probably not have a second season.
But this anime was so sad and made me think so much.
It's hard to explain, but I found myself a lot in Kasuga's Story.

Bro i am really disappointed with the ending, the show is just great i loved the journey that we were following within the 13 episodes but that last minute teaser just fucked it all up, they could just have finished after Kasuga's words for Nakamura, i would still be a little bit disappointed but it would make more sense with the show vibe and i would go to the manga with no problem, ALTHOUGH now i will read the rest of the story already knowing what is going to happen.

It could easily be a 10/10 anime for me but this shitty last minute ending made me change my mind, still can't rate that low though
THANK YOU FOR TAKING SOME TIME TO READ MY DUMB THOUGHTS

i loved this show so much, it is firmly a 10/10 for me and i'm definitely going to be thinking about it for a long time. i can't wait to read the manga.

though, as much as i love this show, i do have to agree that this episode is the worst. it's abundantly clear that they intended there to be a second cour, and the whole episode plays out like an extended preview. it looks like there were parts of the next season that were finished filming and animating. it's really tragic to me that we never got to see it. there's no copium to huff about this show like there was for Panty and Stocking, either- it's dead as a doornail. though, i do wonder how the reception of Uzumaki will change people's views on Flowers of Evil, since it appears that Nagahama decided to use some amount of rotoscoping with that show as well.

i truly, truly dislike the otaku who shit on anything that doesn't look "anime" enough. this show would have lost so much of its emotional depth and artistic weight had it been animated in a traditional anime style. add to that the haunting soundtrack and superb acting, and you've got a real masterpiece. this anime is a work of art and i seriously applaud the absolutely BONKERS amount of work that must have gone into making it. knowingly going outside the box to pursue artistic vision is a brave thing to do in an industry driven mostly by capital.

Ah well so I finished it and tbh, it wasn't as bad as I initially had the impression it was.
Animation was jarring at first but it kinda grew on me, But turns out it was a financial failure so guess we're never getting that season 2 lol.
Oh well time to read the manga.

Augh, I was afraid of this kind of thing where you have to read the Manga to find out what happens next...like this another episode where they could have done it in the previous episode. They could have done all these flashbacks and wrapped everything up in the previous episode. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'm going to give the Manga a try. I dislike nakamura so much, that I don't want to invest more time to see if she still a part of this guy's life. I would have to spoil myself to the manga just to see if Nakamura becomes a better person. All in all, I think the first half of the anime was really good, but after about episode 8 or so, it didn't quite know what to do.
