it occurs to me that they could probably eradicate the enemy by painting porn on their ships and projecting pornographic holograms during battle ;)

Zentradi would quickly get bored by this kind of attack, I'm afraid.

Ha! Ha! The power of porn. What about cute anime girls? I wonder how they will react to that, or Hentai. We have so many things to make them crazy.

By the way if no one is fixing or building anything how can they live? If all they do is fight, then who cooks so they can eat, who makes there clothes or builds new ships?

I also have a lot of questions, but all these questions might be answered later, I think the story is getting pretty interesting.

I'm quickly liking Misa a lot. I don't really care for Minmay at all so far. I'm also really interested in this Zentraedi girl. I hope she has a role to play later.

I'm thinking that you are completely and utterly missing the point..

I'm also liking Misa quite a lot, her general demeanor agrees with me more than Minmay's. Though, I dislike her apparent desire to die.

As I've realized earlier and even way back when I first saw this series that you don't take to watching Macross seriously. This episode still seems to have all the convenient plot devices at the appropriate places, more so unlike any other earlier episode before this.

How the hell did Hikaru manage to lift that Zentradi rifle all by himself and fire it continuously? Although the rifle stock was on contact with ground and it looks like he was supporting it with his shoulder, assuming normal earth gravity, he might as well been firing a big ass artillery gun by his two little hands! Wait, maybe it's made of very light and sturdy alien material, this is a Zentradi rifle after all! XD

That Zentradi space station or something was huge even more so for the likes of our Lilliputian protagonists but they were able to find their way to exterior of it's inner shell. And then 'conveniently' spot a docked vessel bound for our very own Solar System by the way it was loading cargo and supplies! How did they assume it was the same vessel that got them there in the first place was beyond me!

Assuming all three were ace pilots as Misa says so, they didn't need an alien training manual to do a basic operation and control of a big alien battlepod. Even though the Zentradi are humanoid in appearance and the battlepod controls are also human-like albeit big it was still a big alien device to just drive around, isn't it?

Lastly, Milia's Queadluun just tore the hull of Macross like it was paper with one of it's hand to deposit the capsule containing the spies inside and then conveniently put it back the way it was. Is the hull of SDF Macross really that flimsy?

Oh I could go on... but I better get my suspension of disbelief back on to enjoy watching all the succeeding episodes after this. LOL

Loving this series, it seems like every 80's series I watch just make me want to watch more 80's anime!!!

I'm watching the Robotech version, and I think it's truly Gold...pun intended.
The dub is fantastic, yes it rewritten into to much more of an American cartoon, but it's great nonetheless!

I will be watching all of this, and I've discovered another dubbed, unedited version by ADV, that I'll definitely be watching as well.

And, then I'll have to watch it subbed, so I can go on and watch all of the sequels etc.

But, first, I'll be watching Robotech versions of Southern Cross,MOSPEADA, the badly reputed Robotech: The Untold Story(Megazone 23 Part 1..kinda?)after this, and then the American made Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles.
Followed by the 21 Robotech novels.
And, then eventually the Southern Cross, MOSPEADA, adn Megazone 23 originals.

See this is my problem, 12 episodes in and I've already committed myself to all of this. And, I've been wanting to start crack on the Votoms series' as well! UGH!

Urahara Out!!

Well, it's not like there's a binary switch between serious and not serious. Nearly all anime is entertainment, and the goal of entertainment is never full suspension of disbelief (though I say often the more the merrier). Lots of times it's more important to move the plot along than to come up with a more complicated and plausible storyline. After all, you gotta maintain a decent pacing for space operas.

I think back to Star Wars with the stormtrooper effect. Sure, it would be a lot more accurate if the good guys got shot more often, but would that really make for a better story? Realistically, the heroes would be dead halfway through the first movie and there'd be nothing more to tell. Kinda shitty, right?

And really, a lot of the stuff you found unbelievable was more believable than that. I'll give one example since I don't feel like doing one of those point-by-point things:

That Zentradi space station or something was huge even more so for the likes of our Lilliputian protagonists but they were able to find their way to exterior of it's inner shell. And then 'conveniently' spot a docked vessel bound for our very own Solar System by the way it was loading cargo and supplies! They followed against the air flow. This method will lead to an open door, presuming there is either a pressure difference between the inside and outside (which makes sense since they were high in the atmosphere) or some wind on the outside. Since there was only one open door in the vincinity, the airflow led both pairs to the same place.

As for the supplies, the explanation I think the show was trying to get at is that they were loading supplies from the ship they were on to the other ship. Since they would be going back to the solar system, it makes sense that they would go back on the ship that supplies were being loaded to. If my interpretation's correct, I'll admit that the show didn't explain it very well.

It wasn't the same vessel that got them there in the first place.

"And Hikaru returns to the Macross... only to find to his sheer horror that the residents he once knew were completely immobile, frozen in the middle of their daily business in the streets!"
Seriously, not one other person moved during his run through town.

Bahaha, I also like how older Misa still has exactly the same hair as younger Misa.

I liked Misa from the start, glad she's blooming into a lovable character. But she does have a deathwish... And why does she have a japanese name while being totaly non-japanese looking, I wonder?

If this episode was even heavier on convenient events and heroes' luck, at least it was no less fun. I like how this series is consistent in this respect. It has something that I found lacking in many other series I have seen, a kind of balance with epicnes\heroics, drama\realism, relationships\characters, plot\adventure. It's neither too light, nor too dark. And also, not taking itself too serious while not being a parody.

I don't know if this is just a factor of watching subbed over dubs, but a lot of the flaws pointed out above have been explained. They were still on the original command battle ship, as to avoid contamination by the miclones, the Zentraedi admiral went there. The three volunteers are being sent back as spies, but since the Zentraedi practice sex segregation, they travel on a male ship, as part of the replacement female fleet that is taking over. It's already been pointed out how they found the open door (probably with some sort of barrier that keeps most of the atmosphere in but allows sufficient leakage due to the abysmal maintenance standards), and there they see the tender being loaded with supplies for the return trip. Sneak aboard the tender, depart the fleet docked inside the enormous hull, and shoot your way through the hull when you get back to the solar system. No plot holes, but as many convenient assists as the escape from the Death Star in Star Wars.

The whole evidence that the Zentraedi really seem to be in decline is also interesting.

And for those keeping track that's two kisses and one heart-to-heart talk between Misa and Hikaru, as opposed to zero for Minmay. I think one of the love triangles might be forming. I can hardly wait to see what happens when Larry, Curly, and Moe attempt to infiltrate the Macross.

I never thought about the possibility of Misa x Hikaru before these two episodes but it SO works. This pairing is already way better than Minmay and Hikaru. I don't know about the rest of you but this show really hasn't give me a reason to like Minmay or any reason for me to ship those two besides Hikaru's one sided affection for her.

Hoping for Misa x Hikaru end all the way.

I don't get it, if the alien males and females are at war, why are those females fighting alongside the males? Are they defectors or something?

I thought Millia was introduced only in the middle of the war. o_O (very bad childhood memory xD)

Well, those micronized Zentraedi sure look more like they're boarding a cruse rather than being sent to an infiltration mission.

Best episode of the series so far, imo. A lot more info on the Zentraedi, a nice heart to heart between Hikaru and Misa, the escape was fun, and the introduction of the female Zentraedi as well as their first battle with the Macross forces was great.

Another great episode. So we got to see female Zentradi, looking forward to seeing more of them.
I bet those three spies will assimilate into Macross' population so well that they won't want to come back.

Hikaru and Hayase kissed for nothing haha."I had no idea you were into older women" xD

Enjoyed the episode a lot, especially the interactions between Hayase and Hikaru. And we finally see Zentradi women! Though I can't figure out why Milia had to connect all these wires to her chest when she got inside her "mobile suit" o_O

Honestly I have no idea how the hell will their plan work! They're not even trained spies they're just some dudes who volunteered!!! 80's anime logic I guess!

I was thinking the female aliens were at their home planet or something! Didn't expect them to be on the front lines as well!
