I was worried for Inori at first. She was struggling to adjust herself to skating at this venue compared to the one she's more used to and she went through many tumbles during her warm-ups. This also did effect her mother's confidence, hence leading to her confronting Tsukasa about her future of figure skating.

Thankfully, Inori was able to step up to the occasion to prove her mother's doubts wrong. Her performance did start off a little shaky with an early fall, but after that, she was in her element and she nailed some impressive moves, even one which Tsukasa never taught her at all, before finishing in style. The vast majority of her performance was done with CGI, but I think ENGI did a pretty solid job of it.

Her mother finally came around to fully support Inori's ambitions of figure skating, even though she does aim to be in the Olympics. Honestly, I think that's a great goal for her to have and her performance was simply amazing. She knows that there will be times where she won't always win, but with her newfound determination, I think she'll go far. Not to forget, her dress that her mother worked hard to make looks beautiful on her. =)

Excellent episode overall. Here's hoping that her 12.64 score is enough for her to win.

Are you allowed to add in moves like that mid-performance? I thought these kind of competitions you generally have to submit the elements of your routine beforehand and you have to do exactly what you've submitted or you lose marks. Otherwise seems pretty unfair in favour of whoever goes last - they can just tweak their routine to the lowest difficulty needed to overtake 1st place.

@The_Wicker_Man Asked ChatGPT and it says it's not illegal but it's a huge gamble from a skater. Inori did indeed gamble there. She saw the move only once so executing it in this competition was very risky.

If a skater successfully performs a harder move (e.g., upgrading a jump), they can earn more points because the base value of the element is higher.

However, if they attempt a harder move and fail, they risk deductions or losing points.

Skaters must still follow the rules of the competition and program requirements (e.g., no more than a specific number of jumps, spins, or combinations). Exceeding these limits may result in no credit for the extra element.

Not really. I mean, if they submitted, say 3 double-jumps, they can't do 4 or 2; there's also choreography, you can't do moves randomly. They can however try to do 1 or more triple-jumps out of 3 submitted (which earns more points but is much harder).

So yeah, the last player (who I suspect will beat Inori) may succeed doing a triple-jump (as we know she does double-jumps with 90% success rate). I just don't see how she can beat Inori otherwise (considering she never fails a single move, unlike Inori).

Another great episode.

Although it is used as a comedic gag, it is good to show Inori getting nervous before her turn, and then getting encouraged by her coach, who calms her and inspires her to push on no matter what happens, because he would keep helping her improve.

They are not afraid to show her fall. I am glad that they did not go the route of "She falls in practice, but does perfect when it is her turn to skate", Inori actually falls during her turn too, but like her coach said, she pushed herself to keep performing her routine to the end, even trying harder moves.

I am glad Inori spoke up and said she wanted to continue competing, even becoming a medalist, and that her mom dropped the "over protective parent" bit after Inori's performance, seeing her hard work and saying she would support her.

I can't not mention that cute girl who said "I want to be a skater too" both in the hall and in the arena in the seats, that really helped Inori.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

The way it was framing for me, about the sister, felt like her life crumble after the injury, and would be some jealousy drama about in the future. But in the was, the sister living her best life, and she supportive about it.
And in the end was just lot of dooming thoughts projection.

Like when your biggest enemy isn't your anxiety or your insecurities but your mom instead. Like seriously, even Tsukasa acts more like a parent than her. sigh* Well, at least the woman finally saw the light at the end.

Outstanding episode. Absolutely loved Inori's performance and how she managed to overcome that initial fall and successfully take first place. Literally feeling like a proud dad right now.

They can do tens of minutes of figure skating with fast moves with no issue but ofc the 1 minute performance has to use that thing... zamn I want to carve my eyeballs out to wash them with bleach
.. well at least they had the decency to hand draw the frames with face close ups unlike ep 1
Still cost cutting cringe..

Not sure I buy the transition from tripping every move to giving the best performance of her life, but it sure felt good. I really like the little moments like the jacket string tug. So few child characters capture how weird kids are.

Inori's skating was beautiful and once again, I am very grateful for whoever is doing the CGI for this show, as it is one of the best I have seen in years! It was great to finally hear and see Mika! She's a bit excentric but a really good sister to Inori! I'm also a sucker for family drama that ends on a good note and character realizing their feelings and bonds with others so the scene where Inori's mother decided to accept her and her skating moved my heart, incredibly so, even if I'd already read it once in the manga, I was still crying from the sheer impact of it!<3 X'39
Looking forward to seeing MIttens' performance as well as possibly Hikaru's (?) next episode, as well as the confrontation between Jun and Inori/Tsukasa!>:D9

Also, just a big FYI but the OP's full version released today, so I recommend you go check it out if you haven't done so yet!:>

Medalist takes the gold medal on NicoNico's most watched anime thus far of Winter 2025

A comment: "The most talked about anime topic in Japan right now is Medalist. If you see the original manga, you'll understand why it's number one. It's also by far the most popular on Nico Nico , Abema, 5ch, and Futaba."

Medalist anime has same scriptwriter as "Girls Band Cry" so that's not much of a surprise...

Where'd you find that comment so I can share it. Also,it irks me that they didn't include Medalist in that header image when it should've been it Zenshu, and Momentary Lily since the topic is most watched and those were the most watched.

Go Inori! She had a really good performance despite falling early on, hopefully it's enough to beat her bratty rival and convince her mom to let her continue skating.

this exact episode marked something special.
it's not just about having some sort of dream or anything, it's about how much do you want to grow and improve yourself, how strong is your desire to improve yourself being honest yet kind with yourself and the others, i'm so happy that inori and her mother's relationship has grown stronger and that tsukasa is having the time of his life inside the world that he loves the most

Inori sure is OP. Sure she started skating later than anyone else, but she has great fundamentals, a deceptively strong mental state, greatly supported by her coach that perfectly understands her, and her performance in her first ever competition, the earliest one she can take from starting her skating journey is crazy good. How will Miketa compete?

I strongly dislike 3D CG, and I think this show's use of it drags it down, but holy crap this show is moving. I was not expecting to cry here. This episode hit me so much harder than I ever thought it would.
