This post is not a ragebait, more like a vent. I just want to see if I'm the only one who feels that way.

I think we all noticed that the author pracitally hates one character or doesn't know what to do with them. Miyo is so good, so nice, so innocent, so pure, so so so... insufferable. She's not annoying, no. She's nothing, a wet blanket.

She had a tough life. Her whole family hated her and she was pracitally a servant. Then she got engaged and fell in love with Kiyoka and he loves her back. Everything is good right? Wrong! She meets her evil mother in law and she doesn't rely on Kiyoka and doesn't tell him his mother is a bish, instead Miyo praises her "oh how nice she is". Even her fiance is astonished how his mother and his girl are on the same ground.

Evil mother in law makes Miyo work like a servant, even tries to slap her and Miyo just takes it. Being on her own os so rooted inside her brain that she doesn't even try to rely on anybody, she doesn't want to bother anyone and that's what's most insufferable about her. She didn't change from episode 1. She learnt nothing at all.

I'm not expecting her to grow backbone and slap evil mother in law in a span of one month. I'm expecting her not to be so... So... I don't even have a word for her. I want to see some character development in her. At least some. And for the record, she's always been caring and determined. She showed us something when her sister tried to steal Kiyoka away from her but now, she's took two steps back and she's the same she was when we met her.

Author must have really hate her. Throwing evil and weird people at her who tries to use her because she's nice and naive. I'm really tempted to just drop this anime. Maybe I'll endure one episode per week but it's hard.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my vent. If you read until now, I hope you have a great day.

I kinda get what you mean, she lacks substance for sure. Almost like she’s just there to fill space sometimes. I still love her though 🤣

It is certainly weird, that author constantly throws mean Karens at Miyo to face, but character development is not a flip of the switch and understanding Miyo's condition kinda requires a little bit of basic empathy and understanding.

She is so timid and meek due to her upbringing and was thoroughly gaslight, that she is lowest of the low and a little bit of kindness will not immidietly gonna fix it just like that. This insecurity and low self esteem is so deeply rooted, that she still deep inside believes that abuse she faces is deserved, despite (almost) everyone telling her otherwise, simply because experiencing kindness is still alien to her and she does not know any better.
Most people do not understand that, because they didn't experienced something similar.
Miyo clearly suffers from PTSD and just a little bit of kindness will not fix that.

TLDR: Character development is not a flip of the switch, but gradual process, that takes time.

Personally, I see this a bit different:
Miyo knows that she's never going to meet her mother-in-law's expectations, but she's also become very confident about becoming Kiyoka's wife. She shows her determination not in a direct confrontation but in her own way, by seeking out the mother, by playing along with her requests without backing down, and by not solely relying on Kiyoka.
(I'm also pretty sure that Kiyoka knows to some degree that his mother isn't treating Miyo very well)

I don't know the background what exactly happened between Kiyoka and his mother, but I feel like she kind of has a point. She highly values public appearance and for that reason she resents having to accept Miyo into the Kudo family. It's not that unreasonable for Miyo to respect the way she runs the household.

In short: I think she's grown very confident about herself

I couldn't have said better. I loved how she stood up a bit to Kyoka's mom in the end of episode 2. She certainly has improved a bit.

Miyo’s character did progress tho in episode 2 she stood up for herself when confronted by Kiyoka’s mother and compare that to s1 Miyo you’ll clearly see a slight difference the series takes time to built character development naturally over the course of a season so I’m pretty sure that you can see her changing a lot in s2 going forward it’s slow but it does happen.

The truth is that the story and the writing of the characters is very poorly crafted. The story because there is romance and monsters/supernatural beings and there is a lack of chemistry in the main couple, and somehow combining romance with the supernatural doesn't work in this anime, there simply isn't much development for either romance or the supernatural, making everything vague and mediocre. And the characters are terrible because they are the stereotype of a modest and conservative place. And Miyo is definitely the worst character, I hate the forced way she tries to be nice to everyone and accept everything, she should just stop being an annoying character who doesn't know how to contradict other people.

Basically everything is pretty mediocre here actually, the only good thing is the production, animation, direction. The rest is trash

Lot of folks seem disappointed because a fictional character won’t take the Karen route! Self inserting into a nice gentle person when you’re clearly entitled and demanding will never work. Sometimes the patient approach can convince someone of your worth better than aggression, and show them how a truly decent person can excel at any level. It’s better to humble someone by example than by yelling and slapping.

OP shows how a lot of people have a very narrow view of the world, very little knowledge of history, and very little understanding of people.

I think it's not that the author hates Miyo, but since psychologists don't seem to exist in this universe the author is trying to get Miyo to grow and change in other ways

In My Happy Marriage Season 2, Episode 2, Miyo faces harsh treatment from her mother-in-law, Fuyu, but responds with resilience and empathy. Her growth shines as she learns to understand Fuyu’s struggles and decides to use her Dream-Sight ability to help others, showcasing her increasing confidence and self-worth. The episode highlights themes of family dynamics, empathy, and personal growth. 😊

Initially, I would have wanted the villa arc until Episode 6 because there's a lot of emotional moments in the novels that I hoped would be translated on screen. But with posts like this, I've changed my mind. I'm now glad they are adapting up to LN 6. The Kudou villa arc will end at Episode 3, and we will see a steady growth from Miyo and the season will end with a bang.

You're certainly an individual with high intuitive and descriptive abilities. I appreciate your answer a lot as you very rarely encounter such authentic answers.
