Can we chill with all the feels? This is getting rough… I'm glad the love interests are bonding more though, and it was cute how Saki tried to cheer Ryuuji up by piling all those whale plushies on him lol.

But then there's Makoto, and I don’t even know where to start. The way he's been pushed aside is starting to suck. Or maybe it’s just that no one knows what to do with him, so they do nothing. What really gets me about this anime as of this point though is how none of the main characters know what they really want, and figuring it out is the whole point.

“I’m a guy and I love you, and if we’re together you’re going to suffer” 😢 fuck man this show has just been nonstop pain lately. I hate seeing Makoto and Ryuji so down on themselves about their relationship, but at least they’re finally being 100 percent honest with each other and sitting down to talk was mature.

I like that they accepted it’s ok to not know what to do, they can come up with something together. This is uncharted territory for both of them, but they’ve had each other’s backs for years now and that’ll continue.

Now the biggest obstacle for Makoto is getting his mom’s acceptance. He has it from his friends, classmates etc, but until they get it from the most important person they’ll always feel empty. It seems like she’s got some trauma that she’s taken out on Makoto in terms of the crossdressing/gender non conformity. I wonder what the lore is there

There’s an interesting contrast being created in terms of maternal relationships between Aoi and her mom and Makoto and their mom. Looking forward to how things develop from here.

Ok, I'm getting really worried... they have to fit FORTY CHAPTERS into these last 2 episodes. Sure they're webmanga chapters so they're shorter but we've been going at a pace of ~10 chapters per episode so either these last two episodes are going to be incredibly rushed or delve into anime-original content.

Please, if you like this show so far, go read the manga. There's a lot that's been cut already but it's only gonna get worse

It's less about crossdressing and gender stigma and more about generic drama now.

No it’s still very much about those? His mom is transphobic, Ryuji was insecure about his sexuality, etc.

It might be a little bit anime'y. but still - it is not like struggles that main trio have make them any less or more than "average" anime teen.

Yeah, no, I don't think things will go well between the grandmother and the mother, it never does when there are issues between adults and kids are in the middle of them, at least in fiction.

some little mysteries... Ryuji knows Aoi's mom from somewhere? and somehow, seems likes Makoto's mom have some "reason" to be all crazy about her son's "feminine" stuff?

also, Makoto being all nervous and struggling to say something as simple as wanting to decide by himself when he'll get a haircut is kinda sad, but relatable...

Glad to see Ryuji and Makoto getting along again.

Wonder what grandma's beef is with Saki's mom? Hopefully we find out.

Solid episode.

an episode where my heart wasn't crushed!!!

I actually feel like Ryuuji and Makoto shouldn't be friends anymore. unrequited love is very painful and now Ryuuji will not be able to forget about Makoto

Ryuji really is heartbroken now, and pops by Aoi's place to rant about his feelings, feeling envy that she is rather indifferent about Makoto's crossdressing, while just stacking her whale plushies onto him, that's sweet. But the problem now is Makoto, who's been having nightmares and problems reconciling with both Ryuji and Aoi, and now into their 3rd term, he's just putting a front as much as possible to avoid meeting his best friend. Even Ryuji feels the same by keeping a distance against Makoto, which only induces Aoi's worriness to see her Master and Senpai friend being separate. The solution: a date at an amusement park between friends using whales as an example...or rather, just between the boys as a way for repaying for the motivation given to her at her worst, to let the both of them have fun and eventually talk man to man about their circumstances.

Makoto on his family being a crossdressing boy, and Ryuji loving somebody of the same sex, they both have issues, but if they're willing to communicate better, anything is good than leaving the matter as is.

The coincidence of Aoi finding her mother at a shrine praying for her return; Makoto wanting to repair his relationship with his transphobic mother, things are initially looking good, except that Aoi's grandmother doesn't want her meeting her mother. The only person left to tend to is Ryuji, but the issue with Aoi's mother is more pressing, and just like before, their support for Aoi meeting her mother...and then treating her to expensive desserts, which has been a long time since her divorce, at least she's not all that bad, enough to convince her grandmother to talk to her.

Things are actually looking good this time with the reconciliation of the MCs and their loved ones...what could go wrong?

I always say Saki is precious and must be protected but honestly its the same with Ryuuji and Makoto there all so sweet. I'm happy Saki seems to have patched things up with her mum, I mean it will never make up for her abandoning Saki but its a start. I was worried cause it seemed like granny maybe wasn't mentioning something about the mum but I guess she's just worried about Saki nothing else.

I am probably just too distrustful of people but I feel like Saki's grandma would instead delete Saki's mother's contact from her phone rather than actually call her...

Meanwhile, the reason her grandma gave was that she doesn't want Saki to get painful/bad memories from spending time with her mother, meanwhile she has a son (Saki's father) that seems to prioritise chasing whales compared to spending time with his daughter (other than emergency situations i guess) and breaking promises with her, i.e. giving her bad memories, so that's rather ironic...

Some shots had good framing.

Good thing Makoto and Ryuuji are back to being friends.

Aoi is back in the picture. Now it's her personal issues that we have to deal with.

More hurt from everyone Ryuji all in that one sided love and Makoto wanting to love him but doesnt seem he can, at least Aoi got to finally meet her mom and it seemed to go fine. It still not clear why her mom completely left instead of having partial custody, I did get the impression from previous info that it just messed her up how Saki-chan acted calling for her dad acting like she didnt love her mom but if that was it i dont see why she would be gone for that long. What are these qualifications she was talking about. Was she a foreigner so if she got divorced she couldnt live in Japan or was it some heading to university and make a career move? I feel wary of the mother without knowing her reasons for sure but I dont for a second trust that grandmother yet and i sure wouldnt hand my phone to her so easily, but yet then again old people sometimes get too tired to put up much resistance. I hate seeing people think they know best just because they are family or because they are older especially since i see it so often these days.

Makoto's mom at least seemingly she seems to have personal reasons why she acts so bitchy and controlling which is not as bad as if she was just full of nothing but so called "values" though not necessarily better than if she thought she was protecting him. Kinda depends what it is. Whoever that person is they had a ring on so i dont know if that means anything or not.

Aoi-chan must be so happy now that she met her mother. She seems a really nice person:)

I don’t know why her grandmother is rejecting her so much, she wouldn’t let her meeting with her mother and that’s kinda weird…

Nice episode it was, showing Aoi even more:)

The scene isn't over yet. Ending the episode there feels really bad.

Man, what a missed opportunity to have Makoto reply to "if we're together, you're gonna suffer" with something like "how could I possibly suffer if I'm with you??"

Sounds like the mom didn't just ditch because she couldn't handle motherhood, but possibly because she wanted money. That would explain why the grandma feels so hostile toward her and why Ryuji has seen her before (famous person on a magazine or something). It's all speculation at this point, but it sure feels like it'd be the case.

It's likely Makoto's mother saw some drag queen or something and she got scared, but I'm hoping for something a little less trope-y and that maybe she witnessed a trans person get seriously injured/killed for being trans. That sort of event putting a fear in you for your children expressing the same qualities as the afflicted person is at least a little more understandable in my opinion.

I don't understand, I've seen some rankings on best male chara this season, and Aqua wins 1st with Masachika as 2nd. And yet Ryuuji is nowhere in the rankings. Ryuuji deserves to be best main male of the season for me. I am a completely straight male, without any trans or homosexual tendencies. And yet, even I am considering dating Ryuuji. That's just how off the charts he is for me... wwwwww

That being said, season 1 won't be enough to cover the entire manga series isn't it? I don't read the source, but I do hope there's enough materials for a 2nd season at least.

Im actually so upset right now :c
I feel like Makoto has been extremely selfish all this time: he only cares about the fact that he loves Ryuuji as a friend and does not want to give up on their friendship. But what about Ryuuji? Makoto has not once told him that he's wrong about himself and he is not gross or weird for having feelings for him and he still doesn't consider the fact that being around him with this one sided love might hurt him in the long run (ESPECIALLY if something actually happens with Aoi, like are you kidding me?).
I don't know man, I fear no ending will salvage this for me, I had higher hopes for Makoto.

The Japanese government is only now CONSIDERING whether divorced parents can have joint custody.

Anime being not good at detail leaves us guessing about a lot of things. My take is that Aoi's mother got fed up with her husband making whales his whole life. But she did not have an income, and no Japanese court is going to let a broke, unskilled woman have sole custody of a child. Especially when daddy has a steady job and a granny to be homemaker. Now that Aoi-mom is solvent and respectable she is ready to come back into her daughter's life.

I'm definitely going to read the web manga after I finish the anime.

But doesnt custody usually go to the woman usually even there? I mean the dad isnt even ever home. Though yeah it could be an income thing she might of not had finances to be given custody.

They patched things up. I wonder what happened with Saki's mom, something's fishy. Didn't seem like she started a new family after leaving and wanted to meet her daughter all this time as well. That reunion scene though with Saki falling from the tree lol. Also what did Makoto's mother meant by he's not like that guy? The father?

I can't say I disliked it. But the "parent figures give in to their teens demands at the first sign" pattern (not once, but twice in one episode) left a somewhat weird taste. I can't say I dislike it, but... it doesn't convince me. And I wonder what else this anime has to offer, starting to doubt its competence.

I have a bad feeling about the mother for sure. The show so far only portrays a good side, but if she truly cared about her daughter, why did she leave her for 10 years? Never even see her until now? Even if she fell out with the father which is 100% understandable and could not take custody of the child due to lack of money or other potential reasons, it doesn't mean she could not visit or even contact her child once in a while no? Unless she was stuck in a hospital or jail for 10 years or something, I don't see a valid reason why she could not stay in contact with her child even if she had to leave the house. There's honestly no excuse. She is no different than the father really.
