This show really loves using the past experiences that influences the present for our characters....and of course, we got one of those episodes again with the flashbacks. It is important though so I don't blame the directing of the story.

Just glad Migi and Dali didn't get too hurt from all the shit they've been doing.

Give Akiyama the respect he deserve; he's the real MVP.

Trapped in the confinement room, Migi and Dali find themselves surrounded by the smoke from the fire caused by Eiji, gradually seeping into the room. Though it seemed like a dire situation, thanks to Akiyama's efforts, they successfully escape from the Ichijo household, and everyone rejoices. However, their joy is short-lived as Akiyama reveals that Eiji is still inside. In the midst of the memories shared by Migi and Dali's mother from the Ichijo household, a song plays. Listening to the melody, Dali recalls the moments with Eiji and realizes the striking resemblance between Eiji and himself.

Akiyama went above and beyond to save everyone, including that dog. It's really remarkable how he risked his life for a dog whose name he didn't even know. He's a true hero, and he looked pretty cool in the process. The phoenix element was cool as well. Migi and Dali's determination added a really nice touch to the whole episode, making it emotionally powerful. Migi and Dali have showed tremendous growth since the series started, giving their all to rescue Eiji.

Now that Eiji has turned himself in, it's clear that there will be consequences. What exactly awaits him in the finale next week is uncertain.

so in the end they were saved by what, the ghost of Micchan? this is so stupid, why did they have to include a supernatural bit almost at the end of the show..

Well trying to bite through a door is certainly one way to escape.. Akiyama in the bird cage might be absolutely ridiculous but boy did he come in clutch today, and he saved the dog! What a legend.

All Maruta needed was a little encouragement from Karen and that boy jumped out the window like a bat out of hell lmao. Akiyama coming out like a damn phoenix was so ridiculous but cool at the same time

Can you imagine the twins from the beginning of the story going in there to rescue Eiji? They were so concerned with their own survival and personal circumstances the idea of risking themselves for others just would not have crossed their mind. Nice to see their personal development. Plus in the end, he is still their brother

Bed scene with Eiji was kind of sad, because yea Reiko did do all that horrible shit, but that’s still the woman who raised him(albeit in a weird way) Now you’ve got all these emotions going through your head because of what you’ve learnt in the last hour… understandable Eiji would kind of just want it all to end.

Wait a minute, was that a damn ghost vacuuming the smoke up?? 😂 they kinda lost me with that one, but oh well still a nice result with the twins pulling their brother out of there. Maybe Micchan isn’t dead after all? We’ve seen crazier stuff in this show..

I wonder how everything will work out with him taking the blame for all these crimes.

Looking like it’ll be a nice finale next week

Akiyama was so cool! I never believed he could shake off the police, get in the house and even save the Ichijou's dog!

As for Micchan's ghost "saving" Migi, I do have to say I didn't expect or need supernatural features in this. But I don't believe this actually happend either, but rather Migi's hallucination. Micchan saved them multiple times, so believing in her gave him the strength to find Dali and Eiji.

And in the end, Eiji took the blame for what he and his mother had done. I knew it would go that way as soon as I saw his "vision" of eating cherry pie with the others, but it was quite sad nonetheless. He really had one tragedy after another in his life!

Let's see if they can save him next week. I wonder what final twists are to come for the last episode!

Damn, guys, am I mistaken or is the scene with Eiji and Reiko in bed a reference to "House of Sand and Fog"?

Also, very nice show, I didn't watch it during the season but decided to see this episode and it convinced me to go through all of the episodes!

A lot of close calls and last-minute clutches but overall still a rather tense episode. Everyone did their best here; Beaver boy trying to chew through the wooden door with his buck teeth, Akiyama breaking through the door and rescuing everyone including the dog, Dali instead of Migi unexpectedly being the one to go into a burning house to save Eiji, Micchan's ghost (?) guiding the twins through the fire, the twins convincing Eiji to live, and Eiji confessing to his crimes (including taking on his mother's crime of killing Micchan?)...a lot of good progress made in this episode, looking forward to the finale.

While Maruta tries to chew his way out from the wooden door locking them out, the Ichijos' father and Karen surmise what's gone wrong with Reiko and her influence on Origon Village, though the fire that Eiji set to the house, it's creating more of an emergency for everyone to escape unscathed. Migi's desperate way to get out by blasting his head to bleeding worries of Dali...to think that Akiyama would be their unexpected help. he's the MVP wearing a birdcage to save everyone to jump out of the house but still wary of the booby trap all over the ground...and flying like a bird to save their dog. Thet kept their group mission strong, but Eiji sticking by Reiko as a way to atone for his sins, the Song of the Water Flea rings throughout the entire house like a solemn song of slow death, and Dali makes the choice to save Eiji.

The flashbacks of Eiji and Reiko, it certainly wasn't the perfect family-feeling experience, but the child got a rouse of excitement over his make-believe mother to be just as perfect as she does, certainly an inkling between mother and the make-believe son. Dali coming for revenge but felt like he is one and the same with Eiji, he doesn't really care at this point, and Dali just wants to save him, not before he's beign pushed by Eiji down to the living room. Migi follows and is also caught too, though Micchan saves them all in her ghostly appearance...to find Eiji caught under the chandelier, which Dali heavily insists to save him and Migi assisting his very own brother.

The plan for the triplets to have a family life together with everyone alive, they all come out of the house safely, though this captures the entire village's attention and Eiji willingly turning himself in for the trouble he's caused in the Ichijos' house.

Akiyama may be the MVP for saving everyone, but Micchan is the ultimate MVP even in death.

After episode 9 I rushed to finish the manga because I was really enjoying it... I'm pretty sure there was dialogue in the manga during that like 3-5 minute scene of them jumping out of the window that they for some reason didn't include? Odd choice since it didn't really make room for extra in this episode it feels like.

At least Eiji took the heat off so one of the twins doesnt get arrested but now who's going to save Eiji?

I understand why some could interpret his stupidity that way but I believe he's just a really dumb man (Reiko probably chose him as a partner for that reason).

I think Reiko did strive for perfection but she probably prioritized stuff like Eiji's and Karen's education, the public image of the Ichijou family and the shadow management of the Oregon village over trivial problems like her husband's airheadedness.

Never knew I'd end up liking Eiji's character in the end. He was so cool right there admitting to what he did and even covering up his mom's (not real mom I must say) mistakes. Will he go to prison after this? I really wanna see that happy family cherry-pie scene at the ending. Crossing my fingers for that..

I think her husband being like this only helps with perfection - he doesn't need to be perfect by himself, it's enough (and arguably better) that he is a perfect puppet. Which he basically was to Reiko.

I don't think it's the case either that he is a patient nor that she is or was his patient (they could have met that way or through something related to his job, but that's unrelated/incidental). I think Karen meant to say that he is technically a medical professional seeing patients and presumably treating people every day as part of his job, yet ironically he didn't notice someone right under his nose in his immediate family in the same household was someone with potentially some form of mental illness/neurological disorder in need of his care (or the care of some doctor in general). She meant that his wife/her pretend mother should have been a patient because of her state of mind and actions but he was too blind and oblivious to realize it.

It seems to me he's just supposed to be the embodiment of the stereotypical trope of the workaholic husband who is always away or busy with work, but is completely mentally and emotionally absent from involvement in the day-to-day affairs of his own house and family. Which is the way Japanese corporate businessmen are sometimes portrayed, but it's also a trope you see in portrayal of Western husbands too, sometimes in shows like sitcoms and played for comedy.

Sometimes it's plot relevant and used for dramatic purposes, sometimes it's comedic, sometimes some mixture of the two (I would argue that's the case here as this series has elements of both drama and comedy), and sometimes it's just a simple plot convenience to get the husband/father out of the picture of interfering with the main characters' actions, like those of the kids of the family, with no deeper purpose apart from that. Sometimes both parents are portrayed that way just so that narratively there's an excuse for the children to have free rein to do what they want.

Things are really heating up as we reach the end of this amazing show (see what I did there), I was thinking maybe Migi and Dali would pick the lock like they did in the past but Akiyama returning to save them was a very nice moment, he says he’s a disgrace to birds but I say he’s soaring. And I’m ngl, I found the decision to have there be no dialogue when they were escaping the house to be kinda odd but you could get what was going down even if you couldn’t understand what was being said so it worked, just felt kinda random to me in an otherwise 10/10 episode.

And for Dali to be the one to head into the blaze to save Eiji was a great moment for him, and it was funny how Eiji was trying to die beautifully but in comes Migi with his ass on fire lol. And it was quite the struggle to get Eiji to leave the house with them but thankfully he eventually came around with the promise of a cherry pie feast awaiting them, as well as the ghost of Micchan which really caught me off guard lol, even in death she’s the GOAT. And after getting out of there Eiji has now chosen to take the blame for everything, even the death of Micchan, I doubt the twins will let this go but I’m unsure of what may happen in the final episode, this has been a great ride.

Honestly after watching this episode in both English and Japanese audio, I felt like this was already a satisfying ending point to the series. It is perfectly acceptable to forego Episode 13 as the epilogue if you just wanted an open ending
