Nearing the half way mark now, ten episodes in, how are we all feeling about this show?

Probably the most ambivalent I've felt about a show this season, I'm constantly waiting for something to really happen here, and they tease you with possible plot points or important/serious moments, only to seemingly bait and switch with rather aimless or veering episodes. It's not that I don't enjoy these episodes, but it does leave me a little discontent. I appreciate SOL switch ups in action heavy shows, but this doesn't feel like that.

I hardly ever care about the animation itself, unless it's incredibly jarring, but it hasn't exactly been top quality. If it wasn't for the hit or miss comedy and the more mystery elements, I may have dropped this already.

But they're dragging this all out and I'm losing interest quickly.

Honestly it's been kinda underwhelming specially since I was kinda hyped up for it yet it didn't deliver. but it's alright. it is still watchable and slightly interesting. but this week's episode. Piwi's pipi-ing with the lady bard made my day.

When I started the show I was really into it but the last few episodes have been so so. I’ll keep watching but the hype has definitely wavered

Honestly, can't agree with people who think this show is getting nowhere. If you crystallize decades of adventure anime into a single series, then Helck would fit that description. Heck, this type of show would drag out the recent cooking tournament for at least 3 episodes if it was back then. That's why the story direction is keeping up with the time while still abiding by the essence of a classic adventure show.

I can see if anyone doesn't vibe with the comedy. That's pretty understandable. I even have some critics for the possibly misleading genre categorization on MAL. Yes, there are action scenes, but it account for too little for it to be the main thing.

So no. I was disappointed with a lot of things from this show in the early five or so episodes. But after getting teleported and the show delivering a good ol' adventure trope, I am positively hooked on this show being one of my favorites of the season.

Interesting first episodes....

But not that much these last ones...

Still... Piwi, is the Hero we always needed.

I think it's great. A few mysteries they introduced like Helch himself. I enjoy the comedy. The only grip I have is it can be slow sometimes but I think it's worth it for the moment.

I'm having a great time, it isn't outstanding but it is just entertaining, there seems to be a lot of mysteries.

Amazing characters. Period.

Amazing plot and world-building that IS clearly cooking (heavily disagree with the comments that can’t see it).

Helps that I know for a fact that the second half of the manga is famous for it’s payoff. It’s a story with a slow start, sure, but I can appreciate that.

Every episode, something happens that advances the story. Being slow doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening, hell, I didn’t even know anyone wanted a faster story (being rushed was always a bad thing as far as I’m aware).

Amazing voice acting. Period.

And well, unfortunately, to address the elephant in the room…

The adaptations itself, other than the voice acting, is frankly pretty trash. Animation is WAY below average, some cut content here and there (yes, I wanted it to be even slower) and even the direction is painfully mid.

Direction got way better in the later episodes, though. Episodes 3 and 4 might have been outliers on how bad they were. First episodes was also amazing (even the animation was better there).

Plus, since the source material is so good, this is still an 8/10 show to me.

That’s my take on it.

I will not lie as a manga reader I actually very much disliked this 3-4 ep arc. It’s very boring. But everyone who has waited up to this point is about to be rewarded. We are only 2 eps away from the big pay off. Hold out till then. From ep 12 onward we will get an entire cour of insanely good story

Good to know. I really like the characters but the last few episodes were not my favorite.

Love it. It’s actually funny and I enjoy just hanging out with the characters. Sure it’s kinda weird that we’ve kinda changed setting and goals and we’re not really in a rush anymore to get back to the homeland but I still like it. Better than bleach

It’s just a matter of being overhyped. We’re almost a cour in and we’ve yet to get what was promised, the anime of the season or year that was spoken of. That doesn’t make it not have merits, I like the political aspect, but there comes a point where you say, “I shouldn’t have to wait X episodes for something to get good.”

Helck has an old school feel to it and I’m enjoying it alot. I started reading the manga but I’m trying not to read ahead and just enjoy it. I love the voice acting and Piwi is kawaii!

@Pillsbury_Uchiha at the pace we are going likely not. It will probably adapt about 2/3rds of the manga

If you like traditional adventure fantasy series, I think you’ll really enjoy Frieren coming out next season, you should check it out if you didn’t already plan to!

@MusashiKarlsefni Thanks for the great recommendation! Although tbh, I am already several volumes deep on that series, and I love it!

The anime definitely feels bland. I was watching the anime along with the manga for a few episodes then i just cant wait and I'm grateful I did that. The anime has been constantly adapting 3 chapters each episode and imo its too slow for the early part. The second part of the anime will definitely be better but if you dont have a problem with manga then I recommend to just read it cause the animation is average at best and I can see it hurts people's experience for the second part

The first episodes did a good job to keep me interested in what secrets are Helck hiding. The problem is, after the teleport, it feels like filler. After these episodes I'm no longer interested in Helck (I'm talking about the character, not the anime) or any character. For me, good characters are the best part of an anime, but I think this anime is lacking. The plot is kinda interesting but it's taking too much to deliver after 10 episodes. I don't think it's bad, but I lost the interest. I'll put it on my drop list for now, but I doubt I'll pick it again on the future.
