I shed a few tears along with Takada-kun at the end of this episode. Believe in fate. Some friendships are destined to happen.

My Clueless First Friend started out as a comic, turn-the-tables show about friendship overcoming the culture of school bullies. But it is growing into something more substantial. This is my sleeper hit this season.

I'm surprised they actually made Takada realize the "grim reaper" thing could be cruel...

still not related to the bullying the others kids do to her, though... since they don't know about her mother, Takada probably is still oblivious to the fact they were intentionally being mean to her
Yeah, I don't think kids at school are that cruel. They're just dumb kids. Heck, if they knew about her mom that would make them downright evil!

I think it was said how the bullying is mainly because of her fish-eyes. I wonder if Takada will stop calling her Shinigami even if she says it's ok. Must be very hard to use the term that basically says "you killed your own mom"...

Aw, I didn't think there would be this kinda development :'<
But at least we know that Nishimura is called the grim reaper at school just by her appearance and not because of her background because if it was because of that, that would be even more tragic D:

Aw poor Nishimura, that makes the bullying even worse in retrospect knowing it's actually related to losing her mom she has a sort of survivor's guilt over.

Takada was sweet he actually realized finally and felt bad for it. I didnt expect he would figure it out since the show has been so chill vibes I just thought hed never get it.

DO people really have a problem with understanding what the show is talking about? NOBODY in the damn classroom knows that her mother died. They call her "Grim Reaper" because she is dark and gloomy. Sunny boy understands that for her, it could be much more hurtful, hence his reaction.

Great episode anyway.

Small world, eh? Good, wouldn't want Akane-chan being bored the entire time.

Good, supportive grandma.

The world can be so small. Granny based af for teasing daddy lol lol lol. And Takada finally showing some awareness hit hard. Many were judging this show too early.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Takada is a great guy, even though he seems like he's in the clouds, he understands situations and feelings very well, and he's so sorry that he even cries. This episode has touched my heart.

Omg. I cried when Takada realized about his Shinigami nickname to Nishimura. It seemed so pure and warm...? I don't know but I was relieved to see Takada finally realize what he's been doing all this time but it happened in the most subtle and genuine way possible.

Easily the most emotional epsiode so far, but it was more. It had funny moments, with the cat and dad being all worried after grandma teased him. This is where the series shows it's more than just a gimmick of a kid being clueless about his classmate getting bullied and without realizing it, stands up for her. It does a great job showing the pov of kids this age, dealing with life and growing up, and the difference in maturity levels at this age. They are both kids, and their classmates too, but some are more kid than others.

That's some coincidence right? Though good for Nishimura, even back at grandma's home the days were full with fun. That might be a bit concerning for dad, but I'm sure he'll come to terms with it lol.

Now it was obvious to us that Nishimura lost her mother, but since it wasn't to Takada, I can see how and why that sudden regret made him feel so miserable. Guess now he'll understand Grim reaper wasn't any compliment to Nishimura.

I feel really conflicted about this episode because one of my least favorite things in storytelling is a character opening up about some tragic aspect of their lives and the narrative immediately changing to being about another character's feelings. It feels unfair that Nishimura finally opens up about her past and immediately has to comfort Takada because of how he feels, instead of him showing empathy for her first. I like the story but like I said, this isn't really how I wish this moment had gone. Oh well, I'm still hopeful for the rest of the story.

Takada realising his obliviousness towards Nishimura's nickname and regret being accidentally insensitive, really shows he cares a lot for Nishimura. Truly the kind of friendship one should cherish for a lifetime.

The sun was shinning brighter than ever; the grandma teasing the dad was amusing.

I was like Nishimura when he started to cry "oh my, he's crying", he finally "gets it" but it's because he understood is insensitive but the rest of the classmates use that nickname without knowing about her mom so I'm intrigued how he's going to interact with the rest from now on.
It was a bittersweet and shiny episode.

Nishimura, bullied by her classmate, losing her mom and she feels like her mom replaced by her...such a strong girl to be able to hold onto her life when she is in that positition, I love her so much. prop to my man, Takada, who is not embarrassed to cry in front of his friend when he feels he is doing something terrible to her.

I could feel from last episode this was coming for a dark turn. They did a really good job building up to it, with so much bubbly cheerfulness from Tayou that when Akane leaves on the trip, you start wondering- why is she just with her dad and where is her mom? Mr Nishimura was working on being best anime dad of the year until he built the kitty cage wrong. He obviously cares a lot about Akane, but Tayou has no idea. Obviously sort of plot convenient for him to be from that town. Not sure he'd understand quite the same way at that age what was up and how horrible the nickname was that quickly. So now that we know it's a secret, there's a chance that it gets out- and if it does in that school with those hateful shithead kids, Akane is truly at risk. I feel like if Tayou understands how awful this is, his attitude about Akane and how he is with the other students will change. This also explains why Akane has always sort of agreed with and referred to herself the way everyone at school did. She blames herself for her mother's death.

Very precious to see that despite Takada being happy go lucky all the time that doesn't make him an airhead, just pure and naive

Must be tough to lose your mother at a young age, at least for Akane. Despite that, she has a strong mind, to the point where Takada was practically having himself get upset on her behalf.
