Oh well, we got to see some scenes of Elaine (although they're only in Hank's head). Been while that I almost forgot she once existed.

Once again, Hank has to deal with another comrade from the past in the present timeline. Honestly, I'm really surprised. It's been a recurring element in the main story now. Although this time, we also got Schaal who decided to get involved.

I really like Schaal's determination.

Hank finally defeated Roy. That was an intense battle.

This episode is a win for furry, but next will be a win for BDSM.

But seriously, that purple werewolf definitely had a crush on captain. And his demand to see captain's werewolf form might not be all about honor fighting...

With just two episodes to go, I'm a little concerned on where they're going to end it at. Kind of feels like we're right in the middle of the story, after all.

Pretty intense fight with Roy this time around. Hank with regained confidence just about managed to squeeze the win in but some fairly decent heartfelt development leading up to that. Damn, that scene of Hank asking Schaal to finish him plus the fact that Roy & Schaal might've been good friends was pretty devastating. Interesting how Roy was turned into a Beast though, I'd a feeling it'd be something of this sort but definitely to not
this level of .. pain, simply put.

Again, a little baffled as to how Schaal's special bullets always seem to be more effective lol.

Ah, I see, thanks!
Hopefully, that'll prove to be a good stopping point.

I'm happy how they have adapted the episode, especially the Hank + Schaal moment and the final battle against Roy (the OST of the final confrontation was dope). Finally they did some justice to Schaal, even though I still pity that the anime removed some of her quirks from the manga.
Likewise, I liked the scene of Gerald's trapping Garm, even if I liked it a bit more in the manga. Gerald may be old and a normal human, but he is a badass without any doubt.

I think this is too the first time they have shown how an Incarnate is created. From the point I stopped reading the manga, such thing hasn't been revealed yet.
With only two episodes left, now I'm sure that they are going to end the anime

"Nothing is more pathetic than an old soldier who wants to end his life."
Moments later Hank tries to do the same thing. I guess old soldiers very much think alike.

Roy went out like a champ. All the shots he tanked and then Schaal got to shoot him even more point blank.

Thank to this episode, I love Schaal more now
Also I like Liza in that coat and machine, she looks badass
Btw, anyone saw the anime twitter post? It seems like Hank's seiyuu helped with coloring(?) in this episode <3

Hmm interesting so the incarnates were not all volunteers then. Ironic in that the same soldier that Hank helped back then is the one that's the closest to killing him. Its nice to see Hank and Schaal reunite after so long. Still the strain of having to kill so many of your friends as part of his duty really has caught up to Hank huh. The squads plan though sure was interesting if risky one. Its good that Schaal's appearance managed to snap hank out of his fatalistic thoughts. Schaal's words and actions sure proved to be timely while at the same time showing the depth of the bonds that have been forged between them. Round 2 of the fight between Hank and Roy proved to be more equal thanks to Schaal. Overall an excellent ep that showed not just how much Schaal has matured over the series in attitude but also how much pain Hank himself had been hiding inside him as well. Schaal's oath though sure provided the one thing that Hank needed which is an reliable ally that understands the pain that he feels. Im curious on what happened to Elaine though.

So, that how Elaine created those Incarnates, implanting yellow cores called somnium, the source of their powers, but how does Elaine customize each of it to make a different beast?????

Interesting information about how Incarnates are made. Some willingly, some didn't have a choice but it did save their lives!

Schaal is showing some real determination now, made her own oath with Hank. She realised that there's not much she can do for the Incarnates.

2 episodes left, slightly worried about the ending.

So we get more info about how the incarnates were created, which turns out to be one hell of a freaky experiment. Hank and Roy were bros on the battlefield during the war so that explains the bond between them. I'm glad that Hank has regained the will to fight while Schaal is by his side. I enjoyed the fight scene between Hank and Roy. It was very intense.

I really enjoyed this episode more than some of the other ones. Even though the plot is the same so far, this battle of was more intense. I actually thought that the army would defeat Roy but was surprised to see Schaal and Hank do it together. Was very proud of Schaal for taking the courage and fighting.

The way in which they created the Incarnates sure is interesting, I'd like to know more.

I've always liked Schaal so I'm happy for the determination she showed. And I liked how she appeared out of nowhere to help Hank but at the same time I can't help but wonder how the hell she got there without the Incarnate notice it. I don't know, it looked cool but I would have preferred them to do something more coherent, like her shooting from a distance and getting closer.

Cute Schaal <3

So, that's how Elaine turns them into Incarnates, uh? Man, no wonder why everyone are insane then.

And by the way, please, can someone use the goddamn special bullets? I mean, it's not like Schaal used them all with her dad, right?

Anyways, as a whole, it was a decent episode. Schaal finally gaining some courage and determination was nice but with only two episodes left, I really hope she can keep this same attitude until the end.

I think the special bullet is being overrated by most of the viewers here. From what is shown in the anime at least, the special bullet primarily turns them back to human... which doesn't work if they no longer have a human form I guess. So really doesn't matter it seems to me.

Schaal finally useful this time around which I like since I like her.
Anyway, I would of NOPED out of that yellow squiggly monster thing being attached to my organs. I rather die then get a parasite mutate my body.

Elaine must be really high if she thought a talking parasite thing mutating humans was something she should trust and listen to.
Really wish this anime was longer, its weird to have them cut it in the middle. Maybe season 2? PLEASE season 2

Finally we get an arc with more than just self-conclussive episodes. This one was really good, failed to make me care about the black/purple wolf because I don't really know much about him but it was pretty intense and the fight was awesome, nothing too great but better than the rest of the series, hope it ends on this same high note

-I'm really surprised that Schaal had such a problem with killing Hank, given that she was able to kill her own father and all. It was nice to see Hank's emotional breakdown. Made him a little more sympathetic.
-I have a lot of problems with the scene where they trap Roy. Get ready for a rant. Okay, so, when that blondie comes in with the cannon, I asked myself, "Why didn't they bring any of those for this trap?" That would have helped a lot. Not to mention, they've used these assault weapons multiple times and they never work. Also, why are they willing to use ~800~ bullets and not a single Godslayer bullet? Whatever even happened to the Godslayer bullets anyway? Is that what Schaal was using to shoot at Roy? Because she seemed to be doing a lot more damage. Now, my final problem with this entire scene is that they didn't manage to injure a single comrade on the other side of the firing circle. We see bullets flying in every direction.
The only redeemable thing about this particular episode was how it and the previous episode cleverly laid out Roy's backstory. This was definitely one of the worst episodes yet. Maybe the worst. If this series lets Hank live, I'm gonna be pretty mad. I don't hate the guy or anything, but he can't be an exception to this rule that he's pushed so hard. If the fate of all incarnates is losing their humanity, then he needs to go too.

I loved this episode. It was full of drama and action. The words that Schaal and Hank exchanged moved me, words like "That you are alive is my only salvation now", "Please do not forget us" and "That is my oath". And the fight was great.
It was something very exciting, at least for me, they went from perdition to a ray of hope. Poor Roy, he was a person committed to what he was doing and a good partner.
I liked that little look at the experiments to create incarnated in Roy's memories, I need to know more about that.

Taking a look at how Incarnates were made? The experiment from Elaine and Hank was elaborate, shows Roy's history with Hank. The rest of the story...don't count on it, with 2 episodes to go, it's likely we hit the "go read the manga" ending, or for the most part, anime original end.

Hank's mission to eradicate his lost soul-willed Incarnate comrades is quickly becoming a joke at this point, but if this is his call, even if past memories are at stake. So props to Schaal for saving his beastly nature perhaps? She understands the human portion, but the beast portion is up to Hank to decode for her, to work together in tandem.

Finally the long lasting battle between Hank and Roy ends in Hank putting an end to his comrade's life. In respect and in oath to finish the business. The only salvation for Hank at this point, is to live on and live another day. For Schaal, it is to accept what Hank has gone through, plus some pieces on her part. All the pieces of the puzzle are finally put together.

2 episodes to go, and fighting against the Goliath kingdom that is Cain and the brainwashed Incarnates.
How would this go?

Well this episode had gd parts and garbage parts. Everytime the jokers in uniform alonside their piece of garbage captain appears it becomes so lame af. Just seeing their faces pisses me off.

Aside that Hank vs Roy was gd to watch and the development between Schaal and Hank was nice too. Poor girl she had to make an oath to kill Hank if he went berserk, feel bad for her.

I feel the art is just not able to hold up the gravity of this story.
I'm also not sure if this has anything to say that's worthwhile.
Devilman and Devil Lady critique the distinction between human and non-human that's very common in Japanese media (eg. in Rosario Vampire, Umineko, for example, witches are treated as class that is not human because thy have magic; likewise mages and ESPers in Kara no Kyoukai are in something of a non-human category).

Devilman and Devil Lady critique this distinction by pointing to the atrocity that all humans are capable of as example of the artificiality of human/non-human distinction on the basis of morality. The atrocity commited by humans in these works puts the lie to any claim of human superiority, or indeed, even any difference, between humans and literal demons.

On a tangent, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, for example, places the human/non-human distinction in empathy, and some have claimed that AI military robots will be worse than humans because machines lack empathy; one need only study the behavior of soldiers in WWII to rip this feeble claim apart.

These last few episodes have been about affirming the correctness of Hank's quest.
If humans and beasts are not different, what privileges the lives of normal humans over an Incarnate? An Incarnate might be likened to an active shooter; a ticking time bomb of harm, let's say- but is it acceptable to kill people for a crime they have not yet committed?

In examining the moral questions in this anime, I find myself unsatisfied. What moral authority does Hank have in killing Incarnates? What prevents Incarnates with their sanity intact to do as Hank does, and assume the right to kill their own kind? This is a true Nietzschean situation- in a world of supermen, each must have their own moral code as the laws of normal human society are not enforceable- what makes one individual sovereign over another? Hank only has the authority because he has decided that on his own, and Garm seems just as justified in making a political decision to build some state for Incarnates.

Is it so meaningful to "die as a human"? To me, it seems that living life in an altered form without causing harm to others is not justification for murder, eg. Bancroft, and Siren. Preserving their humanity only really means cutting short what time they have left, at the time of Hank's arrival.

The theme of veterans adjusting, or not, to society seems to be a theme in some recent anime. We have most recently Magical Girl Asuka, which has a fairly believable postwar world similar to Third World low-intensity conflict in which magical war material is trafficked and veteran magical girls actively seek more war, finding a place only in combat for states or as anti-state actors seeking to reshape the world to be in their own interests. Likewise, Tsurumi in Golden Kamuy wants to start a revolution against the Meiji state in Golden Kamuy as revenge for the poor treatment of Russo-Japanese war veterans. Violet Evergarden is ofc the story of awkward adjustment to postwar life in the civilian world. I feel that Sacred Beasts is easily the least sophisticated handling of this idea I've seen so far, since it treats returning veterans as a hazard that comes from their internal problems, rather than the trauma of war, weak states and civil institutions, etc. that one sees in other anime. The government is certainly protrayed as heartless in Sacred Beasts, but since Schaal and hank have here affirmed the necessity of this task, I do not think the culpability of the state in making Incarnates will be much examined.

This and the last episode were full of last-second-saves which even for an anime like this was a bit much. They were also just like random saves too, like it's not like they were set up in any meaningful or poetic way or something. It's like a bad horror film where the killer and the victim just keep narrowly escaping each other over and over and it just becomes boring.
