Out of all of Yoshitoshi ABe's series, I believe NieA_7 is the one that bears the most resemblance to Haibane Renmei. Both are set in laid back rural settings where nothing of importance happens day to day and both are about extraordinary beings living off of the good will of normal human beings. NieA_7 focuses on the relationship of two characters. NieA, an alien, is freeloading off of Mayu, a young woman attending cram school because she failed to get into college. It's more of a comedy than Haibane Renmei but if you enjoyed the calm idyllic pace of Haibane Renmei NieA_7  read more

Both shows have 13 rather slow-paced episodes, plus both have a "last decade" look because they are from "last decade or rather." NieA_7 aliens are just there for some reason and The Legend of Black Heaven aliens are fighting a war in space close to Earth that is just there for some reason, so these aliens may be too much like humans but they're total oddballs as you may or may not be able to expect. Yup, it's all very nice...

As one can tell each individual title revolves around the daily lives of hyperactive aliens leeching off the home of their naive, good willed human friends, where their guest's long lodging gradually diverts from being a welcome one. The interactions of these extraterrestrials are without a doubt the driving force bringing forth new events, whether these events are of a mischievous nature, like little pranks, or tingling on an emotional scale testing the bonds of true friendships.

A hard working female main character of rather stoic demeanor finds herself sharing her flat with an non-human. The series are slice of life, with a good bit of comedy thrown in. Despite the obviously crazy setup of the story (alien freeloader/dragon maid), this background is only ever hinted at, never explored indepth. Instead, the human main character is center to the show and steals it, too. Having no male lead prevents both serious from following romance/harem clichées.

Shows that center around a group of people living together. Episodic and comedic! drama added between the character's relations! (more in Love Hina). About young adults, college/academy! Girls taking baths!

Though Ed is a human who recently left earth and NieA is an alien living in a small town they are very similar characters. They have a similar character design and move in the same loose not as realistic manner. They both kinda just do what they want to and think is fun; in contrast to a more serious grounded cast. Both Ed and NieA insert themselves into the lives of their other castmates. NieA just by deciding to live in Mayu's closet and Ed by tricking then blackmailing the crew of the Bebop.

•Both are about "Aliens" •Both have a secondary character who is "in love" with the main character •The anime revolves around the main characters Ika/NieA.

Two best of friends who is of different race (humans and Niea as an alien/ Horo as a Wolf God). Both of these two tells the story of the "slice of life" adventure of the pair and then their friendship is tested by distance, real-life problems and money. :P

Both series deal with the everyday life of a human and an alien. Both have an Indian side character.

NieA is a slice of life with aliens, Denpa Onna a SoL with "aliens." Both shows share a similar feeling with characters struggling with a daily reality that is counter to their dreams and ambitions.

Both have explosive moments of random energy, both deal with human main characters that have to deal with offbeat and mentally unstable inhumanly humanoid roommates that turn up missing a lot. Both have their fair share of surrealistic scenes and imagery, and both have a mishmash of fast and slow paced sequences that make up for very odd pacing. Both have enigmatic worldbuilding, and both are compiled of almost all female characters. Plus, both series deal with college kids subtly searching for a purpose in life and have underlying sci-fi elements that make for a nice but similar aesthetics.

Both shows are very calm and realistic. They don't feel like your average energetic slice-of-life with moe girls doing cute things. Instead, the characters are very well-written.

Both pieces of media have an overarching feeling of melancholy and nostalgia, despite both shows being comedies. They both feature alien invasions, but the main focus is the character interactions between the cast.

A main character with an alien buddy, similar slapstick comedy-ish moments, albeit FLCL more energetic rather than the slower paced and sometimes serious style that Niea_7 brings.

If seeing Hideki deal with living with an idiosyncratic non-human roommate while struggling to get by financially was what appealead to you about Chobits, then NieA Under 7 may appeal to you. In particular, if you like the earlier slice of life episodes of Chobits, then NieA Under 7 scratches a similar itch. The protagonists of both anime cope with the same struggle: juggling work, studying and keeping their roommate out of trouble. Chiii and NieA are polar opposites in terms of personality but both seem to have a way of causing trouble for their respective roomates, Hideki and Mayuko. NieA_7 does get serious in  read more

The main social issues that crop up throughout each series are those of discrimination and racism. Eve no Jikan uses humans and robots to show this, while NieA Under 7 uses humans and aliens, and even takes it one step further by having a caste system for the aliens that even the aliens care about.

Both are definitely-not-mainstream slice of life series about poor college students and their unusual circumstances. If you're willing to accept the general weirdness of either Moyashimon (germs!) or NieA_7 (aliens), then you'll likely like the other.

The both have a similar aura/design (the colors). There is a calmness and "summer" feeling surrounding them. While the plots are completely different the way things are portrayed is similar because they both have this realistic feel to them. I would almost say they feel naturalistic. While Niea can have an exaggerated personality Mayuku is pretty much down to Earth just like most characters in Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto.

Both deal with poor young people living in suburban areas. Episodic and full of everyday life comedic adventures plus a calm laid back atmosphere.

Both are funny comedy series with slapstick humor. NieA has some deeper undertones though.

Comedies set in small towns~ NieA Under 7 is set in the suburbs and Barakamon in the countryside though. Slice of Life and characters interacting with each other in their daily life adventures, mainly fighting about things and ending up in funny situations.

Both follow follow a female lead in her upper teens with non-human friends in an off-beat comedy, almost slice of life, josei story set in the future where there is a vague sense of dread underneath it's sugary sweetness.

offbeat comedies about aliens that move to Japan and the goofy situations that arise from this interaction between aliens and humans.these anime mix sci-fi elements with a kind of humour that thrives on characters wrecking havoc in the most chaotic ways. The result are parodies that may not be for everyone but that are likely to appeal to the same audience.

Both human protagonists are living with an alien. Both aliens tend to annoy the human at all times. The setting is quite similar as they are both set in a rural area. And also, both have aliens living among the human populace except that in NieA Under 7, everybody is aware of the extraterrestrial existence due to the antennae.

Both are post-apo atmospheric anime that go full SOL and leave the story in the background. The notable difference is SSR is more relaxing and cute with high production values, while NieA is more a gag oriented budget anime.

The comedy stylings may be different, but both series have down to earth main characters that are unsure of what to make of their lives. They work hard part time to eek out a living and bond with their coworkers. They are both on the serious end of slice of life, presenting many of the minor personal struggles the main characters endure along with the major ones.
