Akudama Drive

Cyberpunk style. Dark ambientation. 

Both are stylish cyberpunk stories with action packed stories staring colorful characters and also edgy aesthetics and storytelling as well too.  

Both shows have a great production, over-the-top violence, fun characters, and both take place in a cyberpunk setting. 

Over-the-top action and madness in cyberpunk dystopian society. Akudama is more dark, harsh and based on a "death game with freaks" trope while Edgerunners is your standard colorful action by Studio Trigger that is mostly oriented to the Western audience, now with edgy violence and cybernetic nipples. 

Both have the same setting; (World, Theme) Story is very similar as well; (At least until introduction) *Cyberpunk has a faster pacing, while Akudama Drive delves more into it's fictional aspects 

Both are extremely well fleshed cyberpunk series, with great world building, tightly curated atmosphere and a diverse cast of well written characters

- Futuristic Cybernetic setting - some MC progression similarities - Amazing Fight Scenes 

A vibrant take on a cyberpunk setting. An action show in the same vain as Suicide Squad. Style for days and a pretty good english dub as well. Gore was censored when I first watched it but I believe an uncensored version should be out by now. 

so you know how the lighting was in the one you watched? all the beautiful colors being used in unique ways to really draw you in by the eyes and keep your brain hooked? whichever one you haven't watched will look equally just as beautiful with just as much unique and splendid use of light and colors! they are also both dystopian/cyberpunk-esc shows with lots of huge, cool tech you wouldn't see anywhere else and stakes so high you'd need a rocket to get them down! Akudama Drive wasn't as lucky in gore leniency but what is lost through extra-dark shadows, is made up for with the gorgeous visuals and friendships/personal stories you can't help but be invested in! they both have an overlaying heaviness of how hard the world they're set in is on the characters within them. if you've enjoyed one, i would safely bet you'd enjoy the other as well read more 

Not only are both in a cyberpunk setting but also both show a lot of violence and are not affraid to make bold decisions.

Similar setting and aesthetics. Sort of similar plot too? Been a while since i watched. 

Both anime have very similar plots. Neither anime is afraid to push the limits on gore either. The world building with a corrupt government, and the classism of society, really shows how much both shows are similar. If you're a fan of Cyberpunk, than you will love Akudama Drive too.

Edgerunners is a little more fast-paced than Akudama drive but both shows are in a cyberpunk setting and they both have similar plot lines.

If you liked Akudama Drive and loved the cyberpunk, futuristic aesthetic then i definitely recommend watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Both have a stunning art, atmosphere and interesting story. 

IF YOU LIKED CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS THEN YOU WILL LOVE THIS 

-Both have a cyberpunk aesthetic. -Main cast is a group of criminals working together. -Both are quite gory. 

both the stories have the similar feel both the main character come from a non criminal background also the other cast is very similar ,both show are cyberpunk and have same genre so its enjoyble. 

Both shows contain a group of diverse characters in a world where plot armour does not exist. Try binging these in one weekend, you may regret it. 

Same story, same antagonist, thrilling action. One sets in the past and Akudam Drive sets in a cyberpunk city. Diverse characters + main character tries to be a hero and similar ending. If you enjoyed Akame ga Kill you are surely gonna enjoy Akudama Drive. 

its akame ga kill... but better... with a hint of danganronpa in their design, their deaths actually mean something, and the way they die is satisfying. The impact of their deaths is elevated by how good they are written, it makes you root for them, or hate them, both ending in a satisfying conclusion. 

This anime more like, Akame ga Kill: Cyberpunk Edition. If you like Akame ga Kill, you probably will like this too. 

The use of outlaws against a corrupt version of law enforcement is a heavy theme. Even with the main character being drawn into that life. There are more similarities but I can't say without spoiling. 

Both of the MC is a normal people but end up getting drag as a villain. Both fought a whole nation and both set in a rebellious timeline where you can't even decide which side is bad and which side is good anymore. and both have similar ending (akudama's ending is better) 

Story is about criminals who are really powerful There is a lot of dark scene in these anime The criminals are sometimes in group Main characters aren't mature 

Personally I thought Akudama Drive was better, so I think that anyone who watched Akame ga Kill would enjoy Akudama Drive (unless if you were just there for the waifus). Both series are pretty dark and there's a lot of surprises along the way. "Akudamas" in Akudama Drive are a bit similar to the main characters in Akame ga Kill in the sense that they're both groups that are unwanted. I don't want to go too much into detail because I'm afraid I'd end up spoiling things, but I think that anyone that has enjoyed Akame ga Kill would definitely enjoy Akudama Drive! 

Both follow the same concept of a normal guy/girl getting involved with things they don't particularly understand and then going with the flow and becoming a key player on the team later on. Both feature great animation and cool fight scenes with a healthy dose of comedy and serious moments. 

These shows both have a band of criminals/outlaws that make a super team to overthrow the current system/government. Very powerful people fighting, sad backstories, and a lot of cool powers. I had a lot of fun watching both, but the endings weren't the most satisfying. 

It's sort of the same concept, ordinary person gets caught up in a "bad guys do this" moment and goes with the flow, joining their team, although in Akudama the team got together in the beginning, and didn't have a background. The characters are enjoyable to watch, and have fun interactions with each other. Both anime also have great fightscenes, altough Akudama is Sci-fi instead of swords and magic. 

(there is a button "read more") This recommendation itself is actually a spoiler. (if you get what I mean) Let me try to not spoil stuff. :: Both MC live their normal lives until they encounter the bad guys. You get to know their so-called abilities/skills and some silly motives. Each character of the bad guys have their own personality, some you like and some you dislike. And hate to say, but both lack character development except for the MC. :: During the episodes you get to see some gore fight scenes and comedy interactions between group members. Of course you get to see how the MC becomes a key member who will do something heroics. - Notes * Akame ga Kill! is a fantasy action show about rebelling against the capital. * Setting is something close to medieval. * Every character has a special magical weapon. * Akudama Drive is a sci-fi action show about doing something criminals. * Setting is futuristic Japan, specifically the regions of Kansai and Kanto. * Every character has an unique skill. (not magical) The biggest difference I have to highlight would be the Magical medieval part for Akame ga Kill, and the futuristic sci-fi part for Akudama Drive. read more 

fun fights and gorefest 

Me telling why they are similar means giving away the biggest spoiler. If you liked Akame ga Kill! You will sure to like Akudama drive. It won't disappoint you and be sure to prepare some tissues.  

When you watch it, you will notice the similarities. If you liked akame ga kill and enjoyed it's bold decisions you will like akudama drive. The action in akudama drive is top notch. 

Akaduma drive is better than akame ga kill, but they have similar story both are fighting for both ideals against the government akudama's animation is very good it has a cyberpunk setting and like akame ga kill it has a questionable scenes but still its good 

Both have their own intensity and ofcoz, the unexpected deaths :(( 

MC joins a group of criminals that goes against the government/system to achieve something (not necessarily the same thing in both shows tho) A difference is that Akudama Drive has a more futuristic/cyberpunk setting compared to AgK's 

In both, the protagonist is pulled into a group of criminals. Being new, they are also the least experienced members, and spend a lot of time learning and making relationships within their groups.  

This anime is almost similar to akame ga kill cuz the main character is someone who is kind and become a fugitive by coincidence. 

Mc meets criminals and joins them 

Both try to create a better world (same plot) No spoilers but if you've seen Akame then you should already know Cool characters with unique abilities/weapons 

both are dark themed action stories with a sci fi twist to it as well as lots of suspense and nice art and character designs to look at. 

The executioners are Judge Dredd style law enforcement similar to the MWPSB in Psycho Pass, the cyber punk theme in general along with the fight choreography present heavily feel similar to Psychopass as well. 

Both involves scums of society whom were drafted to do the most dangerous work, but in PP the scums were given the option to fight fellow scums in exchange for not being put in the slammers, while in AD, the scums were pressganged into doing something for a bigger scum in exchanges for their lives.  

Both shows are in a future-timeline universe. There seems to be a criminal judgement system, similar to the one in Psycho Pass. The main characters fight against the society and government. 

-They're both cyberpunk/sci-fi -Though Psycho-pass' main characters are the police and while Akudama Drive's characters are criminals, those labels don't matter as their sense of justice is similar -Both are beautiful stories that focuses on the dark reality of 'the law' -Each characters are well written, you'll find them very interesting 

In Psycho-Pass they hunt criminals to serve the city and the community, But in Akudama Drive the Criminals are the main characters and they will do anything for money. 

Similar dystopian future, characters go against the government, poses what is right and what is wrong 

Both series take place in cyber-punk future. But still they are two sides of the single coin: police and law on one side (Psycho-Pass) and criminals with their own 'truth' on the other (Akudama Drive). In both you will see that borders of 'right' and 'wrong' are not so strict and even those who should lead 'good-guys' (I mean main people in country/city/police department) are not so white and clean 

Future societies riddled with unstable and obsessed individuals that will risk everything in order to achieve their goals and legal systems with their own sinister agendas that get in their way. 

Criminals that turn out to be good hearted people living in a futuristic society where the laws are strict, cruel, and inhumane.  

With Akudama Drive's growing fame (which I'm glad about), I think Danganronpa is fairly neglected. Danganronpa is a game-based series produced by Spike Chunsoft, whose employees also collaborated with Studio Pierrot in the original series, Akudama Drive. Apart from the similar character designs, Akudama Drive is full with Monokuma references which is a pure delight to spot and is possible only if you've seen Danganronpa. The watch order seems pretty messed up but don't let it stop you! The brutal yet iconic death scenes sometimes leave the watcher in a wtf state, while at other times, it's nothing but satisfaction. The tightrope walking with hope on one side and survival on the other is what I like the best in this survival mystery anime.  read more

Akudama Drive is basically Danganronpa if it were a cyberpunk heist instead of a murder school. Same vibe and character designs. 

Similarities: - Survival where only the one would live were either lucky or simply ruthless. -Characters with special talents. -Killer amongst them. Dissimilarities: Talent: Danganronpa -Gifted students AD -Criminals Plot Danganronpa -Must find out who among them is the killer. AD -Winning the contest. Unusual Character. Danganronpa -The killer itself. AD -Just a girl that was just too kind to be bad.  

If you love Danganronpa's art style, then you'll probably get blown away with Akudama Drive. Well, they came from the same Studios. 

Just like Juuni Taisen they are both Battle Royale themed. Just instead of an empty city this is set in a post-apocalyptic time 

Juuni Taisen resembles Akudama Drive due to the reunion of a bloodshed crew and, ultimately, having, almost, nothing in common besides their alignment: chaotic. Even so, speaking of the characters background, the way that both works develops that department is rather familiar with each other. We basically aren't presented with their true "identity", likewise, their strangeness factor is what drives us nuts to try to understand their own reasons and, both of them, nailed in the background story of characters. And, if you've liked the characters bonds in Akudama Drive, I guarantee to you that in Juuni Taise is even more impressive, after all, it does have more characters in the cast and, with the premise of a Battle royale, a good introduction/development-reasoning of each and individual character is, fundamentally, important for a such great event. Akudama Drive goes for a more "Heist" category then battle Royale per see but, as preposterous that it seems, is a really relatable atmosphere. Juuni Taise, at least, in my opinion, gathers a better OST than the relatable material and, for some information that can be counted as spoiler, I'm gonna avoid to explain this but , I just can say that the dimension of the main events is bigger in epistemological terms. Nevertheless, they are gore, war zone fields, background mysterious cast and aesthetic work specialists in sound and animation/art (Juuni Taisen with Sawano Hiroyuki fingers and Akudama Drive Cyberpunk stylish environment and transitions). Both animes have a battle-royale-esque theme going on. Personally, I found that they both seem to have a similar dark vibe in it. The characters are similar in the sense that we do not get their actual names and that their "names" / the character they play describes their role > in Juuni Taisen - the Zodiacs are like their zodiac animals > in Akudama Drive - the roles each characters has describes their personality in some way and tells us their specialty 

both are hardcore parkour. so much so, they both get ~+half the show being the moronic blacked out screen of "you know you're watching a horror anime, RIGHT??! because, even though you know this, and made the conscious choice to watch it, you still probably shouldn't be seeing this". in all seriousness: great animation, awesome va's, compelling storylines, boppin music, yet both far too short for how good they are imo 

Bad guys doing bad stuff. Difference would be that black lagoon is more like picaresque genre that shows multiple unrelated episodes but Akudama Drive has a plot. Also both shows have awesome fight scenes, so you would might enjoy only bt watching action scenes as well 

Another anime about a loveable cast of bad people who do bad things 

- Both have storylines where the characters are practically doomed from the start - Both have lots of action in every episode - Both main characters are very caring and seem to not belong in the situations they are in 

Similar cyberpunk vibes (high tech, low life). 

They may look very different style-wise, but one thing these 2 anime share is their insanity level :D Fast paced and action packed, characters with dubious morality that'll have you questioning who's good who's bad who's a complete psycho, and lots of blood and gore 

stylish flicks about convicts who get their necks fastened with explosive collars and forced to do jobs for their new employer. 

Lots of memorable characters in both. Absurd rollercoaster of events/feelings 

Lively set of characters that are labelled as villains/criminals in their world, tasked with (a) secret objective(s) that spans throughout the season's runtime. Super Crooks is similar to My Hero Academia and its superhero society, while Akudama Drive is similar to Cyberpunk Edgerunners and its cyberpunk/dystopian society.  

Dark and gruesome shows presented in an over-the-top manner, with bright colors and a very unique aesthetic. Riots and persecution are occurrences/themes in both shows, and a lot of people die in almost every episode. 

gritty urban sci-fi settings, ensemble casts with checkered histories, complex heists/fetch quests, dystopic lore implications, hacker characters, jaw-dropping action scenes that usually result in a large structure exploding into rubble, unhinged ladies, child endangerment- what more could you ask for? cd projekt red devs will cry, throw up and quake in their boots just thinking about how flawlessly these two shows exemplify the cyberpunk aesthetic and it's core themes. 

Similar elements of cyberpunk, noir, great action scenes, and a world that begs more explorations.
