Kono Oto Tomare!

Because of the similar premise and overall feeling/execution, of its plot and characters. The stories of Chihayafuru and Kono Oto feature a group of high school students involved in a competitive club, trying to master their skill set well enough to compete in the nationals, for their respective activity/sport. Both shows are primarily school-life oriented, with a familiar balance of comedy, drama, and character development. One of the more striking resemblances between the shows is the characters. Each character, in these stories, has their own distinct personality, as well as unique backgrounds, goals, and motivations. Having the characters be not only likable, but also feel diverse in personality, makes them interesting and fun to watch. Both anime focus on a group of high school students playing traditional Japanese activities (koto music here and Karuta in Chihayafuru). A few other striking similarities they both have are beautiful animation, relatable characters, and overall very 'feel-good' positive energy. 

I am pretty sure that Chihayafuru and Kono Oto Tomare! make their own subgenre and you probably won't find anything similar to them at the moment or at least not as good. The strongest aspect of both shows is that they put a great deal of effort into characters development but it's not what makes them unique. Tags say that Chihayafuru is josei while Kono Oto Tomare! is shounen but I guarantee that they are actually no different in this aspect. Okay but which one? Shounen or josei/shoujo? It's not that easy, as I said before I belive that these belong to their own subgenre. Why is that? You can clearly see that they are being made with thought of shounen anime. Sports or music, it doesn't really matter. Rivalry, team and putting everything you can into something that you love is what these shows are about. Yet, even if it sounds like typical sport shounen , both shows have many things that you can see in a shoujo manga/anime. Art, characters archetypes, the way that romance is run and female characters being among main characters (not just to support others or do cute things, they do take a serious part in a sport aspect the same way the male characters do). If you liked one of these anime then you will also like the second one even if one is about sport and the other is about music. read more 

They both revolve around forming a school club based off of traditional japanese activities with a relatively similar cast of characters that strive to work together to improve their craft. Kono Oto Tomare focuses on traditional koto music while Chihayafuru concentrates on competitive karuta. Their feel and atmosphere are fairly similar. Both showcase the school life of a traditional club (karuta = traditional game; (koto = traditional instrument) The story is pretty much alike with the exception of the characters personalities and their relationships However: it's always magnificient to see them going all out  

Three main characthers in a particolar club, 2 men and 1 girl; they search together another member for the club and the 2 men fall in love with the girl 

both are character dramas with elements of romance that focus on a club made up of teens that practice an uncommon activity  

Both have something to do about a club that has roots with Japanese tradition, where one is a traditional game while the other one is more of the traditional music. 

Think about Your Lie In April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)x Chihayafuru? You've got Kono Oto Tomare! This is a cross between Shigatsu's musical-ish teenage drama and Chihayafuru's traditional Japanese school club, and of course, romance! This one doesn't have any dragged triangle love, though! 

Both present a fairly unknown part of Japanese culture Both present said parts in a serious manner, leaving just enough room for a story to develop along with it's characters Both feature characters with varying interest in their respective tasks who end up being passionate in the end Watching Kono oto Tomare gave me big Chihayafuru vibes, an unknown part of Japanese culture is present in a serious way, with just enough comedy to not make it too serious, a god-tier player in each series, followed by a less good but still great player, and a disinterested club that grows tight as they play together and experience new things as a group! read more 

Imagine if Kono Oto Tomare was a sports anime and if Chihayafuru was a musical anime 

same mood. in both, a highschool club goes on adventures in competitions against other schools. both have drama between students within the clubs and students from other schools. both incredible slice of life shows.  

Both series start slow but get better every episode. Both have the same feel and atmosphere. Both series feature a group of high school students who creates a club. Both anime are rewarding as you watch all the characters develop bonds and grow from each other. 

Chihayafuru and Kono Oto Tomare have the same vibe. Both have school settings and club activities. It is the same in the sense that characters strive to reach their own goals with their teams. There experience hardships, struggles, and losses, but they continue to push through these problems. Both also show Japanese unique cultures which are the Karuta and Koto.  

Both incredible shows are about creating non-popular clubs and competing in tournaments while dealing with romance, finding yourself and make friends. 

Both series are about clubs aiming to compete in the nationals. Both have dramatic storyline with a bit of romance. Both focus on the backstory of its characters and are full of emotions.  

Both shows share the same passion for music using Japanese string instruments. The character from each stories also both form a club. There is also a character who is considered a genius or a prodigy in both stories.  

The two shows deal with mental struggles while playing a instrument. The characters of the shows are trying to find their own identity while playing their very instruments and, along with it, their challenge themselves to create originality and while overcoming their inner selves towards their instruments, trying as hard as they can to not just be a shadow to, well, their very sound. Alas, the instruments in both shows are part of the traditional japanese culture and, this by itself, it can be an ally for how unique they can be as well. Similarities: - Japanese traditional string instrument. -Club that was due to close , given a 2nd life. -Club members who wishes to make it to the top. Dissimilarities: Knoo Oto Tomare: - It was a yankee who wants to revive the club. - The Club president was a weakling. -Club needs outside help to make it to the top. Mashiro no Oto - The club only needs one guy to get them to the top. -The guy isn't a Yankee. but a teen with mood swings. -  

Their art styles are oddly similar and share similar storylines. - Club is almost nonexistent and only a few are left preserving it. - Most of the club members don't know how to play the instrument but some random prodigy comes in and everyone learns. - Actual good music and pretty melodramatic. - Prodigy goes through some personal crisis and struggles to accomplish it. - Similar characters. - Has a competition but doesn't take 24 episodes to complete it. - Fights against others that can play proper music too. 

Both of the anime is about playing an instrument. Both Mc had a harsh past which led them to start/stop playing the instrument. Follows same genre. Has school club involved. Both mc's are very good at playing and rest are new. Both anime's main goal is to go to the national competition and win. Kono Oto Tomare's story is a bit slow and Mashiro no Oto's story is a bit more dramatic.  

Japanese culture was embraced through traditional music styles which was shown on the respective instrument used on these animes. Through forming a club, practicing in unison and winning a competition, the characters were drawn to trust their comrades as well as exhibiting their talent and appreciation of music. 

Both animes involve the MC playing a traditional Japanese instrument at their school, and they are both also about the MC's trying to get over their personal problems that they're problematic families have placed onto them. Both series are very wholesome and enjoyable to watch. The music in both series is also amazing as well.  

Both leads were inspired by their deceased grandpa to play a off the beat Japanese Instrument. And are heavily influenced by the passing of said figure. Both join a club and rediscover themselves and in way their relationship with their grandpa through playing the instrument. I am not sure yet on Mashhiro no oto but I have a hunch that both will have a crowd of girls after them yet the mc will only go for one of them.  

Basically the same show but in different colors. Bunch of the same main characters, same situations, same progressions, same outcomes, just different musical instruments.

The music performances are very similar! Although your lie in April is wayyy edgier, still very good shows.  

ok first and foremost: The MC looks similiar Now looks aren't everything ik, just wanted to say it Soo both are music anime and you hear the ''reach'' thing quite often. So to speak- the music is quite touching. Kono Oto Tomare! however, isn't as sad as Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. But some characters deal with a heavy past in both shows so if you're drawn to Drama and Music- definitely check them out 

Think about Your Lie In April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)x Chihayafuru? You've got Kono Oto Tomare! This is a cross between Shigatsu's musical-ish drama and Chihayafuru's traditional Japanese school club, and of course, romance! This one doesn't have any triangle love, though! 

-Whole plot revolves around a musical theme with plenty of staged performances -One of the MCs has a similar traumatic past which they use to get stronger -You'll enjoy it if you love stage performances and the tension associated with them 

Well both are around music and this one is about the instrument koto. It is a funny and happy show with a great group of charcters like your lie in april. It will make you cry, but not out of saddness like your lie in april, but happiness. Once you watch you will see the resembalence. It is pretty good and I suggest you try it. 

If you enjoyed "Your Lie in April" you will 100% enjoy "Kono Oto Tomare!" Both these anime revolve around the theme of music/instruments and romance. Don't worry, Kono Oto Tomare! won't leave you sobbing once it's over. Kono Oto Tomare does a very impressive job of captivating the viewer with its music while also have a great romance story that builds up the main cast alongside the supporting cast. (HAS BOTH SUB AND DUB)

Both Kono Oto Tomare and Your Lie in April are amazing anime about music and romance, have great character development and story. To anyone who enjoyed watching "Your Lie in April" -- I highly recommend watching "Kono Oto Tomare!: Sounds of Life" as well.  

these two are one of the very few school setting animez which focus more on the "senpai-kouhai" understanding. if u liked the asuka-kumiko relation, you'll probably like the takezo-chika relation too. just give these two a watch and you'll notice the great similarities 

The music and training and goal of nationals are very similar! Although I like this show better  

so I'll keep this one short.. Music, music club striving for nationals while bounding together more and more throughout the series 

-A club that aims to go for the nationals and fight for being the best are in both -Occasional feuds between members, and just enough drama to keep it running -Staged performances with flying tensions and anticipation are there too  

Both series of characters have drama elements that play a big role in why they're playing and decided to become a part of the music club.  

Hibike! Euphonium and Kono Oto Tomare! are both school-themed anime shows centered around music. They show how the characters grow and change as they pursue their musical interests. These shows blend teenage drama, humor, and funny moments. In Hibike! Euphonium, Kumiko and her friends, like Takezou and his new club members in Kono Oto Tomare!, spend time together working towards a common goal related to music. Through these school activities, they become close friends and build strong bonds. 

Both series dramas about learning to heal you from the struggles that you have. In both animes the characters have their music goals, and also they gonna face some personal struggles that gonna be part of the develop of them. There's no a protagonist and the cast have different personalities that compliment each other. 

Both shows are dramas that touches topics a little dark, some of them are very emotional as well. They have a fantastic cast of characters that you gonna love little by little. In both animes the characters wanna reach success and be at the top of Japan. 

In both animes the characters have a good development. In both animes there's no protagonist, because both shows focus in almost every character and they do it in an amazing way. They have some dark, emotional moments that have a good direction, it can give you shivers sometimes. 

Both shows are about the cast reaching their dreams but also on how they strugle with their personal problems. The characters have different personalities but they have their own dramatic moments to face their problems, the characters have their respective motives to reach their dream, wheter is playing koto or performing songs. 

Both shows feature clubs centered on a traditional Japanese art that non-Japanese viewers may not have heard of. They also have believable characters that make you want to root for them. Also, Kudou from Kono Oto Tomare! reminds me of Onogi from Tsurune.  

both are school club anime centering around very traditional japanese sports/music as one is centered around Kyudo (a traditional archery sport) and Koto a traditional musical instrument. Both are mix gender clubs although no romance in Tsurune as its story is center around the MC target panic and will to continue practice the sport. both clubs are struggle in Kono the clubs almost disbanded due to lack of interest until a MC (it an ensemble type anime with two to four main character 2 boys and 2 girl) joins with some friend that never play the instrument in their lives and face opposition from member of the school and Tsurune the club just starting or restarting after a long period of inactivate and both clubs are going for the top spot. Kono also as romance between the main male and female MCs  read more 

Both involve a traditional Japanese club and the bonds formed in the club which help the main character overcome something that's been burdening them. Overall got very similar vibes from these two. 

It's allowing us to experience support characters sincerity, pains, and feelings through the series alongside the main character. 

The protagonists in both series are shunted by society and desperately cling onto the one last remnant of their past in order to traverse through the volatility of daily life & to seek closure. Both series tell very compelling narratives about the importance of self-worth and smashing societal norms to achieve one's individual happiness. I cherish both these series for their honest portrayal of life and the inspiration it gives to enjoy life to the best of our abilities.  

Both express the love and dedication to doing something, which in turn gives rise to the wish to protect the emotional connections that appear throughout the plot.  

This is a bit of a long shot and a recommendation centred around a character type but I couldn't help it. If you're a fellow hopeless fan of Tsundere boys with anger issues but has the biggest heart capable of giving love, Kono Oto Tomare! has the one you've been looking for. There won't be any mystical or fantastical happenings like Fruits Basket, but as a bonus, you will also get to love and enjoy the beautiful sound of Japan's national instrument Koto. If you find yourself finished through both seasons and wanting to have more of Kono Oto Tomare, carry on with the manga, chapter 55 onwards.  read more 

Kono Oto Tomare has a good similarity to Fruits Basket being that one of the main characters, Kudou, is much like Kyou. They are both hotheads and have explosive feelings. They're so compassionate and would do anything for their friends. Also, they develop a close relationship with a girl counterpart. This may seem like a small similar detail to you but, since Kudou is the main character you'll see a lot of him which, keeps you in mind of Kyou. It's honestly kinda cool that 2 completely different animes could have such an rare similarity. For instance, Fruits basket consist of a group of friends in highschool with a good amount of romance. Kono Oto Tomare is also a group of highschool kids but, the story revoles around music. Plus, there is not as much romance. Give this anime a watch :) read more 

Both shows focus a lot on their characters especially on their background stories and why they behave the way they do. Both also combine drama with more lighthearted scenes in between, but the dramatic parts still take center stage. Both shows also share a very hot headed protagonist. If you are in need of a great drama with a little bit of romance sprinkled in then these two shows will be to your liking.

- Both involve the development of a tight-knit group of friends - Great chemistry between the cast - Beautiful art! Different art styles but both very, very pleasing to the eye - Perfect comedy sandwiched between dialogue - Clear of (almost) all unnecessary drama - Both are 10/10 imo - Two "couples" in both 

Both music give you the chill and tears. Both have great character development Both have tragic background, intense moments, but they also have comedy inside, so it is not to heavy While in Given, the theme of romance is central and involve many characters, it is secondary at first in Kono Oto Tomare, but become more present in second season.  

Both have high school students coming together to compete at nationals in their respective fields. The character writing of both are really great, elevating what would be a predictable story into a masterpiece. 

both of them base on music and fighting on the stage to be top they both trying there best wile they are nervous but still do there best but there back ground story is completely opposite but still there is some one supporting them  

It's about a strong friends history melted with music, so if you like sweet anime, you will probably like both ! 

-Both animes create a strong emotional impact. -Both have great character dynamics. -Excellent character development! -Tears are everywhere! -Great drama execution and it conveys emotions deeply -Plot depth and development is insanely interesting  

If you liked K-On then you might like since both of them are musical/slice of life anime, they're both a high school musical club the main difference being K-On covers k-on bu (light music club) and Kono Oto Tomare surrounding the koto club. 

- Protagonist finds something that they become passionate about (a lot more than they initially assume) - Some comedy moments - School setting - Very good introduction to their craft (what they passionately do) - Negative and positive aspects of their passion in equal representation 

Both have lovable casts, side characters, and ships. also Haruhi is very similar to Misaki 

Two slice of life shows about high school music clubs. Well, one music club and one music and tennis club. They both focus primarily on character drama and often have very similar moods. Kono Oto Tomare! certainly puts more focus on the actual music and training involved, Tari Tari is a bit of a mixed bag and is more of a coming of age story, but the similarities are there. 

both about music and performance. Yes kageki is about performing on stage with acting but there's also an element of music. both of these have a great freindship dynamic
