There's something about the moods of these two shows that feels similar. They are both about a specific after school club, both of which are very japan-specific activities. One is about a group of musicians learning to play the koto, and one is about a team of karuta players. There are lots of similarities between some of the characters, and they both focus heavily on the skill required to partake in these activities. The scenes of them playing/performing also uses some similar directing styles, though they often feel more like mental battles in Chihayafuru.

- playing a traditional instrument - deeling with a "bad" past which lead them to kinda stop playing the instrument

Both try to bring meaning and heart to music. The two series mixes but humor and dark themes to bring forth something beautiful. In my opinion, Kono Oto Tomare! accomplishes this task a little better then Your Lie in April. However, I feel that both deserve a watch especially if you enjoy musical themed anime.

Both shows demonstrate how music clubs, especially ones that compete, can provide people with a sense of belonging, purpose, and passion. At the same time, they show the different ways people can respond to disappointment and failure, such as dejection or inspiration. Because both of these shows capture the experiences of being in a band, competing and performing, both of these shows can be relatable to anyone in school bands and nostalgic for former school band members. Also Satowa Houzuki reminds me of Reina Kousaka because of their initially cold yet capable demeanor, and Suzuka Takinami reminds me of Noboru Taki because of their initial  read more

In both shows the characters deal with mental struggles, there's a lot of drama and both shows touches some dark topics. There's no protagonist in both series, the show's gonna develop every character and give them their moment to shine. Both shows how their characters are passionate about their goals and dreams (both related to music btw)

Both of these shows feature after school clubs, one about archery (Kyuudo specifically) and one about playing the koto. They feel quite similar in mood and story themes. They are very enjoyable if you want to either learn more about the actual activities or if you just want to watch the drama involved.

Music and a Game are two diferent things, but they also are a hobbie where one must have an iniciation at one point in life. So you will see how much they resemble each other having people with diferent backgrouds learning. They share an unusual tradicional japanese art form for modern high schoolers to learn. Both show characters believable and relatable backstories drama through their interactions and learning experiences. The best resemblence is that both have a main character who in the past were excluded from interacting with people the same age group and while being a expert/much experienced in their art then others, is trying  read more

Both anime will make you really emotional with the drama and the characters backstories, have underlying romance and a plus one for the main male leads have the same voice actor😁

Both series are about a character who is a step further from destruction but with some help (which its a blonde annoying boy for both series)they manage to put their stuff together. Kono oto tomare has same kind of wholesome atmosphere and sense and that pulls me right into it. I belive without considering all of the differences between the series they give almost exactly the same feeling.

Both shows use music to express thoughts/feelings that couldn't be expressed through regular words. Both cases also have (some) characters who deal with tragic pasts, and how it affects their music

They both revolve around teamwork and competitions where only one team can win, and make an effort to make the reader like the opponents creating a bit of a moral dilemma where you want both sides to win(Though Haikyuu does it better).

Both anime feature characters who are trying to prove themselves and overcome their trials and tribulations. While one is set in a futuristic sci-fi setting and the other is in a current day Japan school life, music is what really ties them together. You will watch full and soothing performances (plus some EDM inspired music in Carole & Tuesday) with acoustic instruments (koto and guitar/piano) in both anime which can also be incredibly inspiring. Overall, both shows are very wholesome.

both music clubs that get you emotionally invested without being too serious k on is more cutesy and relaxed whereas kono oto tomare is more grown up with romance and a need for every character to have a tragic backstory both have great sounds

Both protagonists are considered hooligans. Both are passionate about one thing and start from scratch to learn it, pulling your weight!

Male and Female main characters, and 3 friends from Kono Oto Tomare are reminiscent of the ones from Kaichou wa Maid-sama. The overall mood and feel are also very similar, especially regarding comedy / romance. Watching Kono Oto Tomare feels like watching Kaichou wa Maid-sama all over again. (Of course, each anime has lots of great stuff aside from the comedy / romance!)

Both shows have a premise including music but is much deeper than that. They include characters with tragic backstories and the characterization is strong. Both are exciting tearjerkers.

Both anime are set in schools and have a diverse cast of personalities striving to better their art, whether it be singing and acting or playing koto.

Both are about students in clubs competing in competitions. Both series explore each character's motivations for joining/staying in their clubs. Both are very wholesome and good for your heart.

High school students figuring out what they like and why do they like it. Students with different characteristics working together on the same projects. Students figuring out how to make friends and how to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Nice art style and a focus on a form of traditional Japanese art.

Both anime have excellent writing, phenomenal character-drama, wholesome character interactions, great story & character depth and heartwarming music!

Dance Dance Danseur and Kono Oto Tomare! are two very good anime series about the performing arts. Chiaki and Jumpei have decided to pursue their interest and skills in music and ballet despite their lack of experience and reputations. They must earn the respect and friendship of their peers and teacher to improve their skills. Both series has different character dynamics that elevates their simple stories.

Labor omnia vincit improbus. Genius is a word lazy people use to describe the fruits of hard work, dedication, resilience, preparation and persistence. Want to feel inspired and motivated? Watch this.

Both are music themed animes, each having a well rounded cast that have different backstories and individual lore. The vibe is simillar for both as well, as both add comedy to the fray, mixed with music competitions and prodigies in their respective fields.

beautiful dialogues and details in both anime. the main character who is often underestimated just because of his appearance, also a female character who is arrogant but very powerful.
report Recommended by kuronumaa
Same vibes like Kimi ni Todoke. Introduces to a whole new beautiful world (of koto)

Both are about high school students learning a musical instrument. Though both have very different styles of music, the character writing on both are strong and despite the somewhat bland animation, being able to hear them play really elevates the story so much!

Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju and Kono Oto Tomare! are series focused on traditional Japanese performing arts: rakugo and koto. Both series are very different from each other, but you will still see characters who practice and persevere, struggle and grow, and ultimately find a place to belong. If you found yourself engrossed in the Japanese performing art featured in one of these anime then maybe you want to experience the joy of discovering a new one.

Both anime featuring traditional japanese school clubs and revolving around friendship and family issues. Kabuki-bu has more varied characterizations, but Kono Oto Tomare is more well-executed, in my opinion.

School music clubs and character dynamics. Kono Oto Tomare! is a bit more serious, and focuses on the characters actually improving their craft, whereas K-On!! is more of a coming of age story that happens to have music as it's backdrop. But we do see performances in both, obviously in quite different genres but both enjoyable nonetheless.

Kono Oto Tomare! is about a musician group strives to prove themselves to their school and perform in inter-high competitions. The main difference is that Haikyuu focuses on a volleyball team. Common themes of self-development, friendship, teamwork, continual practice, and relationships with tension.

Baseball spokon and musical spokon (koto) The main school clubs in both shows are made up mostly of rookies with no experience in the sport/competition they practice. And that they will have to compete with very superior schools. Both teams are led by a genius baseball boy and a koto genius girl. In Major this similarity with Kono oto Tomare applies especially in season 3.

A lot of ways are similar. -The feeling of the sound they make -Their reaction and reason to play makes it similar to each other -Both anime can turn the whole stadium into a different place just because of the sound -Feeling of unease, self-problem and the purpose of playing is the same

- Both mcs are known as delinquents or known as delinquents. - Both animes is mainly character driven.

A music anime with wonderful characters and great comedy to boot. However, Nodame Cantabile makes music more central to the story, and the characters are college-aged and, therefore, provide a nice change of pace from high school anime without going too drastic.
report Recommended by Griffuku
The strong theme of passion are shared in these two shows. They both highlight the hardships that the main characters had to face in order for them to achieve their dream. Both shows also involve the world of art. One about fashion, and one about the traditional instrument, Koto.

The way both series present their characters' emotional experiences is very similar to me. The second season of 3-gatsu no Lion especially reminds me of Kono Oto Tomare! because of the bullying arc. Both series portray people's needs to be accepted into a group, the pain they feel from rejection and alienation because of a talent they have (in the case of Rei Kiriyama and Satowa Houzuki) and the tendency of hurt people to hurt people (in the case of Megumi Takagi and Hiro Kurusu). Overall, the theme of people's need for connecting to one another is very prevalent in both shows.

Both have the same club that is into the tradition Japanese setting , where one was about the traditional music , while the other has more to do with traditional literature , also both have the same character whom were delinquents and were members of the said club.

Both have the same music and drama genre where the plot was about a club that was about to face closure when group of first years decide to give it a new lease in life.

The characters are charismatic and very human. Both works deal with friendship and love as the main theme.
