Clean unique worlds from both series where plots have to be grasped to get a clear understanding. The artful animation and expresison of the characters is something to be galvanised with. Environments appeared sophisticated in both arrangements and structure that will give you an out of this world experience.

Supernatural abilities and a bunch of equally important characters who are more connected than it seems at first glance.

Both series are about a group of teenagers who may have never met otherwise being brought together under a common goal through shared supernatural abilities.

Taking place in a local city, both series involve a group of characters with superpower abilities. These characters become intertwined in a story that tells of their present lives (with some flashbacks and characterization). Both series provoke humor with its dialogues, gags, and mysteries. For Gatchaman Crowds, the story revolves more around fighting for justice while Mekakucity Actors tells the interpersonal stories for its characters. I recommend both series for people interested in supernatural stories with slight tastes of mystery and humor.

confusing plot line, characters with mysterious past, both aren't from the same studio but have somewhat similar style of animating and unveiling the story

Without getting into spoilers, let's say they have similar tropes. The opening scene of MCA is also reminiscent of the opening scene of Madoka.

Different mood but shares similar qualities, both series adapts a small cast of main characters gifted with supernatural abilities. With those abilities also come with responsibility as they play their roles in their perspective stories. And speaking of stories, there are mysteries relating to the origins, context, and characters. There is more comedy in Mekakucity Actors while Darker than Black has a more serious nature. Nonetheless, I recommend both series for anyone interested in supernatural phenomenons.

Both anime involve characters having super powers. They both have characters with troubled past. They are also both comedies.

Weird animation and storytelling, supernatural overlapping with reality, and a love story that persist beyond time and species.

Both share very artistic city-like styles and have a slowly opening, convoluted plot involving super powers. I'd definetly recommend one if you like the other.

Starts off with introducing characters one by one, MC is a NEET, and all of the events occurring in the show connect the characters together. Story telling from both shows can sometimes be light hearted or dark, and the events are messy/not in order. Also, both shows possess some unique and eccentric characters surrounded by mysteries.

Both anime rotates on a group of odd friends that seems to have a common goal. A Lot of Angst will be shown. prepare yourself if you want to watch both for they are not really the happy type of anime one usually see.

They're both based on Vocaloid songs, but Black Rock Shooter was based only one Vocaloid song, Black Rock Shooter, and Mekakucity Actors was based on the Vocaloid song series, Kagerou Project

Both series feature a cast of characters that wish to find out the secret behind their world. Both series contain two different worlds.

- Weird but interesting characters - Kind of paranormal things in both shows - Similar artstyle and animation

They both have the same kind of feeling, you know there's something more to what they're saying.

Both focus on a group of young people who need to discover secrets and solve mysteries about themselves and their setting. Both make you very curious as to what will happen next and what the bigger picture is.
report Recommended by Abby_Ducay
Both shows deal with teens locked in a purgatory-like state, each of them needing to come to terms with their scars and accept the future rather than cling to the past, rebelling against a cruel, unfair world.
report Recommended by Melodic_Musings
Both protagonist are NEETS and scared to go out in public, Both have female characters that stick with them and care about what happens to them. The main characters find themselves breaking out of there NEET life to help fight against secret organization that wants to control society. The two series include Mystery, Sci-Fi, supernatural, and Romance in them.

If your ready for another anime to screw with your brain or your the type who wants to understand everything about an anime and understand the entire series, then this is a great anime to watch. My head was hurting after watching both of these anime...

As the anime progresses in its episode count, the full story/picture is slowly unravelled and the audience finally understands what is going on. The two anime give off similar vibes in my point of view, especially since in both casts characters have some kind of manifestation of powers. The characters also develop as the story continues and the past or nature of some characters are revealed to be darker than what they were originally portrayed to be.

Both animes have a lot of main characters.

The world they live in has abilities. The main characters of both anime (Shintaro and EIji) are often followed around by another character (Ene and Daisy. They give off similar vibes.

Both are mystery series about social outcasts that have supernatural powers with experimental animation. Watch the other series if you feel like watching something different.

They're aesthetically similar and both also feature a confusing convoluted story. They both are heavily inspired by "Shoujo Kakumei Utena" and feature lots of references to it, so you might like it if you want something thematically similar. Do note that Yurikuma Arashi is quite explicit in content compared to Mekakucity Actors.

From the very, and I literally mean the very first scene you can see the similarities and the clear inspiration Mekakucity Actors took from Utena, particularly the movie. And is that both make use of surreal architecture, symbolism and avant-garde story telling that the enjoyers of each will likely enjoy the other.
report Recommended by eblf2013
Both share brooding loner type characters, trippy edgy visuals as well as in animation. And both series also have loners coming out of their shells in the storyline.

While significantly different in genre and setting (Darling in the Franxx is Action/Mecha while Mekakucity Actors is surreal Urban Fantasy), the shows provide, at times, remarkably similar experiences. The shows share two of their primary draws -- a compelling atmosphere of mystery and a well-developed, relatable cast. Both casts are quite large and consist primarily of teenagers with complex interpersonal relationships between them. A number of the characters in each cast can be seen as parallel to one another, such as both shows featuring an important girl who is part "monster" and has serious image and trust issues because of it. Both shows are ultimately more character-driven, with the  read more

I would like to say that the similarities about these anime is the view angle and the slide scene of the anime while the story is going. they bot got fast slide and even get many scene with only a few moves. the different is nekomonogatari got a smoother art style than mekaku. i wouldn't say it better cuz i believe as a mekaku fan, mekakucity actors has its own style. and i probably like it more.

In both at first it's hard to understand how all these characters and their stories are connected to each other but in the end they all become one big complex story. Also both have a little bit strange fantasy story with romance in it - Mekakucity actors is a lot stranger than Ef and Ef has more romance though! Both stories also leave you with lots of unanswered questions. In both the story still somehow works completely fine. Both are made by Shaft so both have the same typical style. And also both have the same nursery story style in it explaining the original background story. And  read more

Both anime features superpowers that cannot be obtained by normal peoples. In Kill la Kill, their uniforns gave them superpowers and their powers is based on how much life fabrics their uniforms has. Im Mekakucity, they unconsciously gained theit powers when they are in worst sittuations and suvived. Both anime is a refference of each other

-seriously cool futuristic setting -badass characters that do what they want (and can clearly handle themselves) -both have nice art -hooked from first ep' -cute main girl leads, (tsunemori and ene)

Both series are directed by Akiyuki Shinbou and have the same art. They both are confusing and mysterious at first and don't make much sense (especially at the beggining). Finally, they both have the same sense of humour (the kind-of-lame yet fuuny jokes).

If you're a fans of Headphone Actors/Yuukei Yersterday episode and need more of their dynamics, you might as well check Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, too. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is a high school romance story between cool-headed, snarky, (and a bit tsundere) twin-tailed girl and an innocent but airheaded boy whose short wavy hair.

The two series share similar art styles and story boarding. The settings of both are also very similar and create very fun and interesting backdrops for the characters to light up and interact in. If you enjoyed one of these you'll most likely find the other enjoyable as well.

While the studios are different, both anime series draw the audience into a mystery that requires some answers. They both give the same task for the audience, and that is to create theories to understand the events that happened before later episodes provide the answers. The premise is nearly the same, where it's about a protagonist that ventures into a new setting and discovers the mystery that encircles a specific day. From there, unforeseen events are beyond the characters' control and lead them from one event to another. They are both expository in story format, but Higurashi makes the events much more clearer than MCA's due it's  read more

they both give the same feeling. I don't really know how to say that, but when I watch tsuritama I always think it's really similar to mekakucity actors. maybe it's the characters or the complicated story. It's a feeling I can't really find a word for.

Concrete Revolutio and Mekakucity Actors are both very colorful shows about super powers. Both shows also have very unique art styles. Both shows have a charcters who are orphans and are adopted by another character.

I will use the music to chain these animes. Both use MV to show action scenes or mental conflicts, but Mekakucity actors has Vocaloid music and shaft composition. If you like musical anime, this is the best one.

Both have huge cast. Some characters have split personalities which additionally multiplies main cast. Non-linear and sometimes unpredictable plot where actual storyline is composed of several seemingly distinct stories set in one city. Both shows are psychological although they don't seem that way at the beginning.

Both stories have the same kind of intrigue that make you keep watching... Mysterious characters with even more mysterious childhoods and superpowers!!

Similarities: - Unconventional storytelling methods (time jumps, not in chronological order, etc.) - Short length (12-13 episodes) - more specifically, the short amount of episodes may leave you thinking that the series did not live up to its potential. A larger episode length could have lead to a better understanding of characters' motives, actions, and (in the case of Mekakucity Actors) backgrounds. - Large cast - the episode count, combined with this large cast, inevitably means that characters will have to fight for screen time (figuratively, of course), which in turn leads to some characters getting more screen time and development than others.
