Both shows contain a somewhat "dark" atmosphere with a lighter tone appearing now and then. Each has a "secret" organization that rules the city. Each also has a sort of "special power gene" that only certain humans can obtain. This gives the characters in both series new skills and abilities. With interesting plot lines, both of these will keep you glued to your chair.

Both are neo-noir mystery anime dealing with erotic grotesque visuals, supernatural powers, and just give out the same vibe in general.

Both series are about humans who have supernatural powers. In Darker than Black there are Contractors who have these powers and in Speed Grapher there are Euphorias who have these superhuman powers. The stories of these anime are good and related to the modern world. There are also girls who the main guy wants to help and protect.

Black Lagoon and Speed Grapher are both similar shows. Both are action packed and suspensefull. Both have blood, gore, violence, death, and sexual things going on(more sexual things in "Speed Grapher") . Both can get really dark, and still punch in a great joke here and there, but not get silly. Both shows have gun fights (more in Black lagoon) that may ask you to suspend your belief a little bit (but this is good from time to time). Both also involve "different" types of fight scenes we are not used to seeing in anime. For example in "Speed Grapher" we get a guy who  read more

Gritty, edgy and gory, they could be considered twin series (starting right from the pun titles), with their social and political message mixed with explosive action and psychological introspection; in both you will find: - Main trio formed by a dark and stoic anti-hero who went through a job change, nihilistic stylish white-haired villain, younger weak generic brunette - Themes of (in)justice, ethics, desire, corruption and control - Cynical and morally grey characters, both among criminals and cops - Suspenseful scenes, mystery and investigations - Grotesque imagery also of the sexual kind - Realistic dystopian urban setting with peculiar technology and weapons. Comparing them to american films is easy, as Speed Grapher  read more

Revenge, greed, vice, corruption. Both series feature the darkness; the evil in human hearts. Worlds depicting a dichotomy between the filthy rich and the suffering poverty, both Gankutsuou and Speed Grapher are vastly different in settings and plot development, but distinctively similar in their themes. Based on the Count of Monte Cristo set in a futuristic setting, Gankutsuou is a story of vengeance. To avoid spoilers, the antagonist had a shocking past filled with desperation and betrayal, and Gankutsuou follows his attempts to destroy and defile his objects of vengeance. Whereas for Speed Grapher, a near future world rather similar to GiTS and DtB, where money  read more

Both anime is made by Gonzo. Aired the same year, and in the same season. In the Basilisk and Speed Grapher there is a unique action scenes and mild nudity. I recommend adult fans. These animes are seinen. There are no bishi, but there are very beautiful women. Great characters and a great story.

Both series are at their hearts "shoot em up" gun shows, with lots of action. However both have some sci-fi elements (more in Burst Angel, which has mechas), and a few other strong elements as well. For example Burst Angel has a very "western" feel to it, while Speed Grapher has a more "supernatural" and "crime- drama" feeling to it. Speed Grapher is more sexual and a little more mature then Burst Angel (not that Burst Angel is for kids....it's not really). Both series are fun shows with great "Girls with Guns" action, and strong female characters. Speed Grapher is darker then Burst Angel. Both  read more

Maybe it's just me, but "notebook that kills people" is kind of like "camera that explodes shit". There's a slight difference: The theme of Death Note is justice/morality, while Speed Grapher is about corruption and vice.

Both series has supernatural elements where the main protagonist meets a strange girl in the pilot episode who holds secrets. Both series' main protagonist and the girl bonds and become close. The story in both series are both mysterious and contain a darker theme than one meets the eye mixed in with drama, action, and a little comedy.

Dark and gritty with a fair amount of violence, as well as genetic mutations/evolutions in humans/robots that may give them monstrous qualities. Speed Grapher is more about corruption and vice, while Gantz is about violence begetting violence, but a fan of one series is likely to enjoy the other.

These two dark violent anime deal with themes of the darker sides of human nature. Both of these two anime also have a mysterious girl with special powers and memory problems that escape from an secret organization that wants to use their power for evil. Not to mention these two anime are filled with violence, blood, gore and disturbing imagery.

These shows deal with the ideas that people can be bought and sold. The destitute have no rights and fighting rarely works out.

Mature series that envoke an unsettling feeling with the use of casual gore while still being able to hook you with the mystery aspects.

basically roppongi and a gay bar. finished grapher before this and felt like these two were connected in the same universe

These anime explore the faults of human nature such as lust & anguish through drug usage & other perversions which transforms the characters into powerful yet tragic monsters of mankind.

Both series challenge moral ethics found in society often claiming that money is worth everything. Kaiji is strictly about psychological gambling found in human greed while Speed Grapher dives into super powers revolving around human lusts. These shows dig into ambiguous concepts of good & evil where it is explored through Kaiji's struggle for freedom. The villain of Speed Grapher, Chouji Suitengu, holds a tragic secret that may result in justifying his crimes upon human beings.

"Humans are Bastards". in urban wicked city where mafia gangs are lurking, money is what controls society, there are similar topics such as: Injustice, Authoritarianism, and Poverty.

Totally different genres, but have the same feel, slightly dark. Genetically enhanced heroes saving the day, with a main female character along with the ride.

There is a shady-looking guy with a young looking teenage girl that oppose the government. I couldn't help but compare the two every five seconds in this show.

In both series, there is a superpower theme related to individuals with supernatural abilities. The setting of both series also have a similar feeling in a city where there is crime, hungry power individuals, and organizations with dark ambitions. The main female characters from the series also has their own powers which they use to help with various tasks. Both series contains action, drama, and a mysterious like background as well.

While seeing Banana Fish I was constantly reminded of Speed Grapher, there are a lot of similarities in many different levels. In general both shows share the same sense of hopelessness and longing in a world where it always feels like those in power have control over you. Social classes are very divided as well with a clear contrast. The rich seek only pleasure and more power doing whatever is necessary to attain it. There are also a lot of (very) heavy, dark, violent and perverted/sexual themes. The main characters in both shows have a strong connection and they have the same dynamic of one being  read more

The interconnected stories of freaks and problem children, some with supernatural circumstances, that culminate into an overall plot of the city.

Both of these series involve a a male protagonist detective who encounters a source that gives them supernatural powers. They're both accompanied and driven by their female partner to solve crimes which revolve around worldly sins greed, lust, etc along with other heavy concepts. I enjoyed both of these series and feel they share several traits. If you like slightly dark detective stories that involve supernatural powers you'll enjoy both of these series.

Photographer as MC with a potential fetish it seems. It is rather similar in that sense to Speed Grapher. However, Speed Grapher does come with super powers instead of racing. So if the photographing stuff is your kinda thing this might be worth a watch. Just based on the first episode.

Single man involved against mass organization that wants to take over the world. Mystery, pursuing the truth, revenge for the death of a relative.

Dark and gritty with a fair amount of violence, as well as genetic mutations/evolutions in humans that may give them monstrous qualities. Speed Grapher is more about corruption and vice, while Zetman is about violence begetting violence, but a fan of one series is likely to enjoy the other.

Gritty and thrilling anime for grown-ups with overall the same style and feel. The characters and their relationships are similar to the extreme: the male protagonist (Spike/Saiga) is an apathetic and unemotional man with a special eye who needs to be in near-death situations in order to feel alive, and who's not interested in the sexy, dangerous gunslinger girl crushing on him (Faye/Ginza), but only cares about the woman he loves (Julia/Kagura). The main villains (Vicious/Suitengu) are also strikingly alike, as they're both cruel, white-haired men who want the girl for themselves, and with a carillon in their background story. Even though Speed Grapher is more suggestive  read more

Their premise is so similar it's scary. Firstly, both are about laboratory experiments and genetically altered/manipulated people (Diclonius/Euphoria) who have lethal super powers. You'll find action, drama, mystery and a rather unique storyline with plenty of twists. But, above all, they involve a tragic relationship between a brother and his little sister, and have carillons in a crucial role. They are indeed quite hardcore, having lots of violence, gore and nudity with several grotesque or disturbing scenes, and can be considered gratuitous and vulgar by many, which is why they're not for everyone; if you can pass over these things, both anime, despite their flaws, are enthrilling and worth  read more

this series gave me the same sort of feeling as speed grapher.. it's hard to define.. but yea, it's very dark and deals with the underbelly of society [though ergo proxy is quite a bit more futuristic].. upheaval, good versus evil, that sort of thing.. the animation is also on par with this one.. definitely check it out.

Both have a kind of "conspiracy" theme and involve the power of shooting things but not with a gun.

It is the same darkness, gore, people fighting to death and a secret organisation behind it all. The characters have supernatural abilities. Speed Grapher has a lot more sexual material.

The similarities are pretty strong. The settings are very similar, a near future with lots of slums and crime. The serious feel of everything was very similar as well. Both series have people with special abilities and a young girl caught up at the center of it all. Conspiracies and corruption abound in both as well. I personally found Speed Grapher to be the much better of the two, with its much stronger emphasis on corruption and the carnal desires of mankind. If you liked Witch Hunter Robin I highly recommend Speed Grapher. However, if you liked Speed Grapher I don't feel that Witch Hunter  read more

Speed Grapher is a pretty dark anime, there's a lot of hate and misuses of power. Innocent Venus isn't quite as dark but still has it's fair share of issues. They both have the typical young mystical girl, bad organization after them, and a few lovable characters along the way. Both stories are pretty interesting and if you like one give the other a chance.

The storyline and characters are unique and interesting for both series. They also contain exceptional romance where the lovers are on the run from powerful forces in the society, and they have to struggle with their choices along the way.

If you like the main protagonist and the kind of romantic relationship in one, I'm sure you'll like them in the other because Sankarea and speed grapher have very similar background setting for the main girl.

These series are both same kind of animes in many ways. There are gunfights, good action and blood is flying around. Also there are some sexy girls in these animes too who fights with guns. Speed Grapher has also supernatural powers included.

Speed Grapher doesn't involve gangs per se but there are a lot of underhanded people grasping for power and money. They are both violent and twisted in the same direction.

Both series revolves around supernatural beings able to perform supernatural feats beyond human understanding. Additionally, there is a dark background in the stories and mystery written all over it. Both series contain drama and action delivered well.
