Though of different sports focused these anime have very similar leads. You'll feel the strong connection to both anime. Fun and entertaining!

Both have wimpy main characters that have hidden talents. Both have characters that start out weak compared to the other characters, but eventually grow in terms of strength and skill as the story goes on. Both main characters have some sort of side kick who is physically brawny and skilled in their respective sport. The deurotagonist is hot blooded, and determined to become the best in the sport.

Ippo and Onoda are very similar in the way they behave. They're both modest and aren't aware of their true physical strength until they are introduced to the solitary sport they play.

Both have characters that are Beginners to sports. Through sheer will and hard work the character improves quickly one is in racing bikes and the other in tennis. Both characters have something unique about them one is an otaku and one is an expert note taker. I really enjoy both and if you have seen one, you definitely want to see the other.

Explores friendships, team work, hard work and dedication of each sports striving towards a common goal. Difference being that Yowapeda is more character background-centric than Daiya.

Over Drive is, of course the most similar anime to Yowamushi Pedal. To the point that one could argue that it's a copy. Don't be tricked though, Over Drive exists since 2005 as a manga, while Yowapeda began in 2008. It's very easy to see that some inspirations came from Over Drive. Both are about cycling, both are about a young uncool boy self-realizing and becoming confident through road races. Many other second characters appear to share the same characterization.

Both main characters ride their machine (car in Initial D and bicycle in Yowapeda) and somehow they end up in a team and race against other people in mountain roads.

Yowamushi and Hero Academia have quite interesting aspects that makes you want to watch them both if you liked one or another. - The main characters have the same voice actor and similar personality (although Deku is a more complex thinker but they are both bit nerdy and honest). - Naruko and Kirishima are basically same characters. Both like red and manliness. It's just fun to see similarities there. - Addition to that both are shounen shows about hardships and overcoming them so if you like stories like that it's a pity if you have not seen one of them.

-Both characters wimpy at first -Both characters gets strong by finding what they like, they've changed dramastically -Both has a girl they like in the anime -Both sports related, very similar -Both sports anime

Yowamushi Pedal is about road race with bicycles and Kaze ga Tsuyoku is about road relay race (running). Both series take place in Japan and in both shows the main race takes place at Hakone. Fun fact: in one of the Yowamushi Pedal episodes (20) the characters are watching videos of Hakone road relay race. A nice unintentional interconnection between two series.

Both talks about a group of friends, that have the same passion, a sport, wanna be the best. Have that popular character good-looking that everyone wanna be, not very friendly, just wanna be better and better. And have that character with hair with a unusual color, and teeth with pointed, that everytime is challenging the other, one wanna be better then the other, looks that they are rivals, but they like each other.

Earnest lead character who has no experience with sports gets roped into it because he wants friends. No one expects much of him but he goes on to impress.

Both anime are sports oriented with a protagonist demonstrating unpredictable and outstanding results that surprises everyone. Also builds up to competing and winning competitions with a variety of characters as well as 1-2 people being the more experienced and supportive friend of the protagonist.

Both MCs are really good at something ( AxK survival game, YP cycling) without even realizing it. They meet good friends/teammates, which helps bring out the potential in them, which makes them strive to be the best they can be in order to thank their friends in return.

Ao Ashi and Yowamushi Pedal have simple, inspirational storyline like most sports anime. A good sports anime must standout with unique character design, quality animation, and compelling character development. Ao Ashi and Yowamushi Pedal deliver on all three elements. They also have exciting moments that will make you cheer for the main character. Consider this series as your next sports anime.

I'd say that Yowamushi pedal is the Hunter x Hunter of sports anime, it has got the same attention to the details as HxH, and the battles (races, in this case) have great settings. Each character is developed perfectly and there is no protection to the main character as we can see in many ordinary shows.

The animes have more in common in the characters personalities and looking, Gray is like Imaizumi and Naruko like Natsu. Natsu and Naruko are persons a little dumb, and Imaizumi and Gray good looking, self confident, and arrogant. Both keeps fightings, are of "sides differents", but are really friends.

ok hear me out with this: I know "Kiss him Not Me is reverse harem and yowamushi pedal has absolutely nothing to do with cutesy romance comedy stuff..... however watching this i couldn't help but think of yowamushi pedal. For one thing the main characters are literally the same. Both of them are otakus and are trying to get their friends to watch anime. while yowamushi pedal is strongly about bicycles its actually about this lonely non athletic otaku that just wants to make friends so he can hang out and go buy anime stuff together. Well one day he meets a guy on the bicycle  read more

Capeta is not about cycling, but about F1 racing. But the feels and the atmosphere are the same, if not even better. Its about a boy who comes from a poor family whose dream is to become an F1 driver someday. The different stages of hardship he goes through will probably belittle what Onoda-kun went through in Yowamushi. Needless to say Capeta is much more of a serious and realistic anime. It even has its share of emotional scenes that will increase your attachment to the protagonist. If you liked Yowamushi then there is no doubt you will love Capeta. Enjoy.

These two series are both about competitive sports where a boy starts out a loser but gains experience and skill rapidly and is taught by the best.

sports anime, introvert protagonist and all those excitements any sports anime would provide.

Although both series' are very different in style & story, I've found myself realizing -more than a few times- that the emotional ride on which I'm taken feels very similar. The play, or balance, between gut-wrenchingly "corny" vs. heart-pounding, intense seriousness is done well in both.

-Both main characters, at first are really wimpy, not strong -Both encounters somebody, and both the main character changes dramatically -Both animes has a girl they like -Difference, KHR is more of an action type, pedal is more of sports

They share the same genre: Sports, and shounen. One series involves Tennis while the other involves Cyvling Prince of Tennis main character Ryouma was born to play Tennis and we see him challenge the best players around the world. He joins Seigaku tennis team and we see them arise to the occasion. Awesome tennis matches and characters too. In Yowamushi Pedal: Sakamichi excels at cycling and has found friends who share his dreams. We see him and his friends get better with each challenge. The only thing that similar is that in both series there is a character who thinks he knows the  read more

Sports anime based on cycling. We see the progression of our main characters get better each time. The matches/races are awesome and epic

(This is only a recommendation for Hill Climb Girl) Both deal with bike racing and the whole time I was watching the Hill Climb Girl short film, I kept thinking about Yowa Pedal.

If you're interested in a show about cycling, Yowamushi Pedal and the Nasu franchise are both good choices. Nasu: A Migratory Bird's Suitcase is a little under an hour long, but it's a good watch and great for if you like competitive sports, whether or not they're the contact type. Yowamushi Pedal is also a good choice if you're looking for more material to watch, as it's a two-cour TV series.

Both anime about bicycles

A lot of the time the skills you gain doing one thing can be transferred and applied to do something quite different. Agetarou finds the things he learns whilst helping to run the family tonkatsu restaurant can be directly applied to DJing; whilst, in a less drastic way, Sakamichi finds that the muscles and stamina he gained from riding a heavy bike for long distances in order to save money is invaluable in the world of competitive cross-country biking. Both are fast-paced motivational stories with a lot of energy.
