Both very supernatural and hard to follow shows. I recommend you watch them slowly and connect the dots little by little, then you will find both shows very horrific and formidable, yet somewhat entertaining and interesting. Both shows are equally good.

Casshern Sins and Soultaker revolve around powerful but melancholic protagonists, who on their journeys through a dark scifi world meet many interesting characters. Both series are dark and have a comfortless atmosphere and tragic aspects through the whole series.

Both have unique design and color setting and make use of unusual camera angles and animation style. This due to both have in their staff Akiyuki Shinbo as Director and Akio Watanabe as Character Designer. Plotwise we have a few similarities, since it follows a boy, who happens to encounter some girls during his journey. There's also a side character who helps the protagonist in some way, Shiro Mibu in Soultaker and Meme Oshino in Bakemonogatari.

It's strange. When I watch both of these series, either title just pops into my mind. They definitely have a few similarities least to say coming from that: Both series has similar artwork Both series has themes that mixes supernatural and horror Both series' stories are gets darker as the episodes progresses Melody of Oblivion and SoulTaker are two series that executes horror in a way that is seen as horror at a more realistic level.

My first though why I watched 1st episode of Garo (just like it was with SoulTaker) was: Oooh~ My! Gods!... for the new and old! JAM Project opening~! Like in Garo, SoulTaker have very special opening created only for this particular anime. I dunno why, but only when I see opening either in Garo or SoulTaker I am just turned on to watch the whole episode without blink. Beside that SoulTaker like in Garo have "Super Hero" action plugged which just give us quick-fire heartbeat. Old, but still awesome motive of changing to battle mode (transforming) is something that just remind of old movies, serials and anime. Specially if  read more

The Characters in both shows have special powers. They fight for what they believe to be right.

Early 2000's shows with very attractive character designs and just interesting visuals in general. Both have basically nonsensical (sometimes laughable) storylines, with weird sibling connections, female harems, mecha-esque creatures figthing aliens and some existential monologues (usually about being an alien or not).

Shows with extremely complex and confusing plots, carried mainly by their mystery and aesthetics. While actually comprehending what is going on in each episode is usually a complicated task, both are fun series to watch, with worlds than end up being incredibly entertaining. Their presentation also stands out, with "unique" character designs and really well-directed moments.

Both titles were released in the early 2000's with a similar dark and gritty atmosphere. The main protagonists in both titles can transform into a demon monstrous form and uses their power to fight for good instead of evil. The SoulTaker has a design that looks pretty similar to Devilman. They both feature supernatural elements with lots of violence and blood. If you enjoyed Devilman or looking for another demonic theme superhero, I recommend trying out The SoulTaker. If you enjoy The SoulTaker, feel free to give the Devilman OVAs a try.

Ergo Proxy and Soultaker both take place in dark scifi worlds, and both have a very strong sense of mystery in them. Though their visual styles are very different from each other, both have black as the main color most of the time, which adds to the already bleak atmosphere. The main protagonists in both discover that they can turn into powerful monsters, and encounter other people with similar powers. Both characters also suffer from trauma and amnesia, and each go through some introspection. While there are similarities between these two series, Ergo Proxy is far more psychological and focuses more on the mentality of  read more

Similar aesthetics and "power words". The story development also has some common points.

Both anime are produced by Tatsunoko Productions, and just like how Gawl transforms into a generator, Kyosuke can transform into the SoulTaker.

Yeah, weird, I know. How is a Soul Taker, something that looks like a shonen, similar to Boogiepop Phantom? Just go with me on this one, you have no idea where the story is going at first in Soul Taker, and the weird use of colors, imagery, and stained-glass in the backgrounds are disorienting. In Boogiepop Phantom, you have no idea where the story is going at first either, and the muted colors, hazy, and peep hole vision make you feel like you're going to go nuts, and that is not the only similarity. They both feel very dark, supernatural, and mysterious.  read more
