Oh well. I mean Id suggest watching it, as its pretty important towards the understanding of S2 and builds good foundation on the characterization of Yuta. Overall a great movie.

Finishing up certain anime is probably more ideal, but I'll go with Golden Time as a safe suggestion. It's the same writer as Toradora but tonally and thematically different. If you want something fun and very anime-esque while still being unique and refreshing, then I'll also add in Zombieland Saga. You say you don't like old anime for their visuals, The Wind Rises is a good modern day movie that has present visuals but classic story telling feels. If you want something psychological, then Odd Taxi would be a good one - which actually feels like a 2000s anime (akin to Death Note) despite releasing in 2021.
