Sakamoto Days

The name Tarou Sakamoto once instilled fear in every villain. No other professional hitman matched his prowess, and fellow assassins revered him. However, Sakamoto fell in love. In five short years, he married, became a father, put on some weight, and traded his weapons for an apron as he became the owner of a humble convenience store.

Although Sakamoto is decidedly retired, he finds his old life of crime hard to shake off. His former partner, Shin Asakura, reappears and resolves to stay with Sakamoto's family under their strict no-kill rule. To make matters worse, a large bounty is placed on Sakamoto's head. Numerous assassins now pursue him—but they are in for a surprise. Sakamoto has not lost his edge, and no matter what tricks his enemies pull, he will fight off every last one to protect his dear family.

Preliminary (11/11 eps)

is this a continuation of the Gintama series?
MC who is OverPower but looks stupid
MC's partner who admires the MC (shinpaci)
MC's female partner from China (kagura)
...the perfect formula for a comedy action story, 3 idiots in a shop.
...of course I recommend this anime, especially to cure the longing for the Gintama series (our favorite anime of all time) I give a score of 8 for this anime, for Gintama I clearly give a score of 10 (masterpiece)
...btw, does anyone know, is it possible that the Gintama anime will really continue? until now I still can't accept that the Gintama series is over.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (4/11 eps)

So it's pretty much Spy x Family with shuffled traits
- Sakamoto is an overpowered assassin like Yor, but speak little like Loid
- Shin is blonde and chill like Loid, but reads minds like Anya
- Lu has pink hair like Anya, but is an emotional drunker like Yor

Honestly, I think it's a chill, funny anime, with some quite good action that overlaps with comedy.

It keeps you somewhat hooked, but most of the action ends being quite predictable and a bit of rip-off from other series.

Art: 8/10 - I kind of like how most stuff is drawn in a crayon-like technique. Makes it kinda unique.
Animation: ... 7/10 - decent, nothing out of ordinary
Characters: 4/10 - most characters barely get any development; their chain of feelings barely makes sense— like that one girl was supposed to be grieving after her parents were brutally slaughtered, but like 10mins later she's chill like nothing happened
Humour: 7/10 - it's somewhat funny, but not all jokes are relatable
Action: 8/10 - Not great, not terrible. Keeps you hooked though
Plot 4/10 - Things happen because it's cool for them to happen, with no particular reason other than to create a conflict for the episode and to stir some action.

I'll give it a 7/10 for now, but if it gets me bored I might decrease it to 6/10

Pacing and Plot:
The pacing and the plot is rather confusing for a show that's so highly praised. Nothing really unique happens, nor do the episodes really connect? So far, they're just one episode after another, and it honestly gets rather frustrating because nothing really changes if you change up the order. It's repetitive. The comedy as well is kind of flat and doesn't land. It's neither funny, nor original, and I think unless you're a 14 year old coming to this comedy genre for the first time, you wouldn't really enjoy it. :(
Even the messages each episode/character tries to convey are usually ... shallow, especially for a show about ASSASSINS, KILLING PEOPLE, TAKING LIVES, if you know what I mean. The message at the end of the day is often: "friendship is magic!" or "keep strong!" and already mentioned by others shows plenty of times and not really connected to the characters and their motives that much.

Character:
I.. hate them all.
Okay, that's a strong statement, but no, really. I can't find any enjoyment in any of the characters. Their exposition dumps on their backstory is often done in a way that is unwarranted, uncreative, and comes off as very trope-y and cliché. (The timing is often really odd as well. If not odd, then boring). We don't see any character development (yet?) as well and I can't really say I enjoyed any of the character's humor.
(I especially dislike Heisuke's whininess, and Xiaotang's idiocy... Even the wife can come off as annoying sometimes.)

For a show that was supposedly praised for the characters' developments and depth, Sakamoto days falls rather flat. They feel like cardboard cut-outs whose only personalities are comedy tropes for the sake of fulfilling those comedy archetypes. Every line from the characters feels like something I've heard in a handful of other animes.

Animation:
Animation is pretty fine, but I still think its success is largely attributed on the original manga's choreography and design. So there's really not much for the anime to fill in as long as it follows the manga's panels.

TLDR: Subpar show, did not live up to expectations and its wide praises. (Though been told it will get better but we're losing hope here.)
