Made in Abyss is a great manga, however it is somewhat disturbing to read and not for the faint of heart. The first couple chapters are quite slow which might put you off reading them, but this is all necessary for the sake of world-building and backstory. As the story progresses though, the action picks up and we are introduced to a various assortment of likeable and not so likeable characters (in Made in Abyss, it's a common trend to either love a character or hate them with your guts). The manga also has a habit of hitting you where it hurts, then giving you ... a couple chapters of respite. As for the art, it is utterly beautiful, and the dialogues / translations never fail to convey their original meaning. All in all, if you plan on reading Made in Abyss, you're in for a ride that will have you crying, looking away, but also admiring the fragility of the lives that the main characters lead. This is a manga you won't forget.

Oh boy, this is a tough one.

As many people have noted prior, this story has an issue with drawing suggestive art of minors. Nudity itself doesn't have to be problematic, but the feelings it invokes is anything but innocent, especially since it's not a one-time thing.

However, if you can stomach that, an interesting and unique story awaits, with a meticulous and beautifully crafted world and inhabitants.

The suggestive art is one of the biggest score detractors, personally. There are also some character plots that feel unresolved or missing, but the series isn't concluded yet, so that is subject to change.

It's basically the anime version of: ... "Roadside Picnic"

First of all I can't deal with the blatant borderline pedo shit. Justify or ignore it all you want, it's clearly meant to be titillating and the mangaka opted to draw it once every few chapters. I'd rather not participate.

On top of that the worldbuilding which is always described as being so great is just ... it's a video game. They go progressively deeper in a hole finding magic items and encountering various monsters and essentially NPCs. It's not that unique or interesting. Just play Etrian Odyssey III. The story is also not that great. Lots of heavy-handed emotional manipulation involving characters you really haven't ... given me much of a reason to care for since their personalities are pretty thin tbqh. Riko is your typical tries hard shonen protag who has a mission she will not be deterred from at any cost!!! Yeah, it's boring. Emotional or "fucked up" or "twisted" scenes don't work if you haven't made me care at all if your characters live or die.
