Regarding Death takes place in the void between life and death, whereas Usemono Yado takes place in an inn whose guests are all searching for something they lost. Through their interactions with God/the mysterious landlady, we learn about the people who end up there and their regrets in life.

Both of these deal with past. Although Usemono Yado isn't completely like kowloon genrom I think you will like it because of how unique both kgr and usemono yado are. This is a josei manga so you'll like it if you liked the seinen aspects of kgr.

When you live in a place that has a mind of its own, the impossible becomes possible. Ghosts, curses, time travel, knowing the future - all of this comes true in these manga, and it's bc of the unique places that their inhabitants live in.

Two very strong willed females are in charge of an establishment, helped by two older ladies. Both are plagued by a tragic incident in their past which they are unable to recollect, as a result of which they eventually start feeling guilt, regret and anxiousness. They each also have a man in their lives who seem to know about them that which they don't know about themselves, including the fact that both aren't as strong as they appear to be.

Reminiscing about the past with pain and eventually tearful acceptance. Death is a subject which is strongly connected to both these manga.

Episodic plot structure. In both mangas, guests (spoiler: which are dead) rest in a lodging establishment (hotel or inn) where they can figure out what's holding them back from moving on. Each story dives into different aspects of life, death and loss in a very beautiful and lyrical way. Also, one of the main characters is a reserved black-haired guy wearing glasses.

Both manga deal with what happens in the after life - and how your actions their determine the future of your soul. We also have a mysterious female figure, who appears to be unbiased while offering choices to the lost souls that come her way. She also acts as the judge, jury and executioner of the souls that she encounters, depending on her actions.

Kiri-no-Mori Hotel is a hotel for those who are weary of life. Usemono Yado is an inn people visit to find an important thing they lost. Stories about various guests and what led them there.

The certain surrealness, mysteriousness, and the heaviness of what people carry in their hearts.

Male leads of these well-written psychological series share similarities such as dealing with regret, forgiving yourself and being forgiven for making imperfect decisions. I recommend both of them who like good bittersweet stories in a mysterious atmosphere.

Similar mood in terms of solving mysteries of the people of xxxHolic's world, and the clients that drop by the Inn of Lost Things.

Both stories have similar auras of mystery and death. In the beginning there are few separated stories and later they let us get to know the circumstances of people working for the site (JS) or the inn (UY). Both manga have complicated, quiet girl a as a heroine and bunch of people working with her and dealing with supernatural business. They both wear classical japanese clothes (yukata) and seem to be of another realm.

I cannot reveal much without spoiling Usemono, but suffice to say, that at their core, both stories about love, life, death..... and the ones left behind. If you enjoy reading emotional stories, then I'd highly recommend this manga to you.
