Oh boi, according to my female friends who follow this manga, you better prepare a box of tissue because this story is gonna cause quite some amount of “Sui” (水, Kanji for water in Japanese) from your eyes (╥_╥)

For those who proceed to follow this manga because of “Reimei no Arcana”, this manga has 0 deaths and clearer drawings thanks ... to technological advancements :D

Story: 9.7
The story is pretty straightforward since Touma san continues to follow her typical love pattern format from her previous work; however, her story is definitely still in “A” class as it mostly flows pretty well(with a great ending) while containing some plot twists.
Will the Water God understand what emotions and feelings are? You will find out because I am not gonna spoil you too much ;)

The only complaint I have is that creation of “Kurose”, a side character. When he was introduced, it felt a tiny bit forced as it doesn’t really bring any add on value for the main story. The appearance of Kurose definitely digresses the story a tiny bit, but it’s alright.

The following themes will be presented in the story:
-Understanding of emotions and feelings (joy, love, and sympathy) even fear, remorse, and what it means to be alive)
-Memories vs Where you actual belong

Art: 10
Compared to “Reimei no Arcana”, “Suijin no Hanayome” is more aesthetically pleasing and Touma san has definitely impressed me on her improvements. During some of the chapters, I don’t need dialogues to understand how the characters feel because of how skillful Touma san draws their expressions. More importantly, I resonate with the character’s emotions when I scan through those illustrations.

The way how Touma san planned out her manga boxes also surprised me. It not only helped the story flows exceedingly well but also made me or the other readers want to flip back and forth to see how she presented those parts of the story. Easy 10!


Characters: 10
The character setup is pretty well done. We can see the main characters’ growths in personality and understanding of what they want.


Enjoyment: 10
As a male reader myself, I don’t have any “Sui” coming out from eyes when I read this manga. Yet, I enjoy this manga with all my heart. Found out this manga when it is completed and took “zero” effort to finish it in two days.


Overall: 10
One of the rare mangas which I can say that it has a ton of “colors” in it. Easily a “Masterpiece” when put into the consideration of how Touma san presented the story.

I'd love to give it somewhere between 8 and 9, but since I've only read 17 chapters I'll leave it as an 8 for now.

Minor spoilers:

So I've read some stories in which the main guy reluctantly falls in love with the girl he somehow is put in charge of for some reason. Or stories where the king/god/demon quickly falls in love with the normal protagonist... somehow. These are pretty common in manga, and while I enjoy them, in some cases I wonder exactly why our male protagonist falls head over heels in love for seemingly not much reason.

In this story, I didn't really feel that ... way. In fact, things don't really progress much in the love direction for quite a while, which is great. It builds up the relationship between the two gradually, as a over time thing rather than a sudden one. You might even feel there isn't enough of their interactions at times, and that's because the Asahi (female protagonist) actually has a life outside of her interactions with the god. That is very much welcome, as the story doesn't simply focus on love or revolves around the two, though how Asahi is the water god's bride is the main thing driving the story progression.

The story actually started of very well, showing us how an innocent little girl slowly lost her innocence. One of the main things why this manga is great is because Asahi doesn't stay a silly, dependent girl. She doesn't run to the all powerful god expecting help all the time. She isn't badass as of now, and might never really be, since she's not the one with the powers. But her mindset isn't weak - and that's all that really matters. She knows people won't be there for her, nor does she expect it.

About the water god, I actually really like how he's portrayed. A sexy god that will save you whenever trouble occurs, teaching all your abusers a lesson and being your knight in disguise? Error 404: not found.
It's quickly apparent he isn't that kind of person. He is instead, very much a real god. Powerful, inhuman in both mind and being. He's not really evil, but to humans he might very well seem cruel. The humans here expect god to be their savior, but he's just a god, and he's doesn't exist to better their lives. He does what he wants, and that's a good change from the forever softhearted characters in manga.

The third male character is also rather likable, and I've no complaints as of now. I enjoy him enough that I didn't mind that there was possibly more of him than the god in the manga. He's a good person, yet not overly optimistic.

Overall, the story is just pretty interesting, especially if you like a different setting and good characters. The other review mentioned a tragedy - and I can see how it might seem like one in ways. This manga is really good at portraying the feelings of our main character, and we can really see how she grew to be what she is.
Anyway, it's a manga that might seem cliche, but once you read it you'd easily realize it's not. Very enjoyable, and I'd recommend it to anyone, especially if you enjoy seeing how a character adapt after being thrown into sudden difficult circumstances.

PSA: The first part was written after I read the initial 7 volumes and that's what my praise refers to. I've just finished the remaining volumes and my... opinion on that lies below the initial review, under the spoiler warning (because I discudd the very ending, so read only if you're fine with that).



I'm amazed by this *shoujo* manga.

(no spoilers per-se ahead, just some general comments about overall character development and their relationship used to illustrate my points. The front cover posted above can tell you about as much as I have below, so feel free to read on, unless you wish to go into ... the manga 100% blind, but then what are you doing here, reading comments, huh?)

The setting itself is average enough, I admit. We have Asahi - a girl (a child, really) that's whisked away to another world, finds a friend (..zone-kun, hee hee), gets sacrificed to a Water Dragon God by mean villagers and so becomes his Bride. Queue typical shoujo tropes...

...Not! The characters are what makes this manga a one of a kind masterpiece.
Because it turns out that a god, who lives eternally, feels neither pain nor hunger, has no need for sleep and is able to spend decades idly staring into the distance, who while being aware of humans, can only muster to display for them mildly disdainful indifference, and who generally is closer to a force of nature made aware, rather than anything resembling humanity, that god is made a main character and Asahi's love interest. ..Can you imagine?
But. This wouldn't be much of a masterpiece without a solid female lead. So let us look at what Asahi, our heroine, brings to the table. When we meet her first, she's just a child. A rowdy one, enough to provide a passing entertainment for a bored god. Even though she is scarred and wants to go back home, she does what she can even then. And as she navigates through her new situation, she adapts. She doesn't whine. She learns how to survuve and slowly builds a life with what she was given. It's so rare these days to get a heroine that is not a whiny moe-blob, an ever-blushing maiden or an inept idiot who's not capable of thinking or doing anything by herself.

The absolute best part about this manga is, therefore, watching the relationship between the Water Dragon God and Asahi unfold. At the beginning she's terifird of him and rightly so. But because she's adaptive, perceptive and quite smart, she's able to gradually understand Suijin-sama's (Water Dragon God) way of thinking, how he sees the world (and humans) and acts the way he does. She grows to understand and accept his.. limitations and, in turn, he slowly gets pulled closer. Because his 'entertainment' is getting more and more, well, entertaining, he - extremely slowly - starts to *learn*. Not any such tropes as how to be a gentleman though, no. He starts to slowly expand his emotional range. Where in the beginning we have this immobile... pond, that can be set to either indifference or mild irritation, slowly, very, very slowly, some colour starts to be injected into that never-changing, ever-lasting puddle. And every single time we see some progress, we know exactly why and how this happened. There's no beautiful eyes being batted at him to make his cold heart skip a bit. There's no mighty god coming to rescue the heroine in great anger every time she's in trouble and realizing his feelings thanks to that (bleh..). There's no of that bullshit cliche in here. What we get instead, is this masterful feeling that makes you go "ah.. yeah, this really IS how an eternal creature like that would be, isn't it?" as we see him and his indifference and the excitement as we see the smallest of ripples appear, when it is earned. Because that's just it - they both earn what they get. As you read, you can clearly see that Asahi is indeed worth the changes she makes in him. And, in turn Suijin is slowly growing, causing her to change (emotionally, towards him) as well. They influence each other, and stand in this sense as equals. And, as a result, evolve together.

And I personally love it.
If you're bored of never changing relationships between the MCs (Dengaki Saisy, Ore-sama teacher - I'm looking at you..), relationships that are flat, simple and predictable.. then look no further. For me, this is just as good as Akatsuki no Yona (albeit not plot wise) and I recommend both highly.

After reading the remaining volumes, my rating fell down to 7.5. I love the earlier volumes just as much as I used to, however it really is a shame the manga went the annoyingly.. flat shoujo route in the end.

Asahi has decided to let the Water Dragon God eat her, because she wanted to save his life and be with him, when it finally got to her that as soon as he sends her away, he will, indeed, die. It was her choice to make, whether it was the right one or not. But nope. Subaru pulled her out by force and pushed her back into her own world. I mean, I get it, being worried and stuff. But what gave him the right to decide that - the most important thing that will ever happen in her life most probably - for her? It just pissed me off, especially the shoujio vibe it was wrapped into. And I don't mean any feminism bs, like we don't need no mens to decide for us and such. No. I simply mean it as one person taking it upon them to take the choice away - and the right to decide ones own fate - from another. That's juyst not cool.
And even *then*. There should have been cequences. You can't have your cake and eat it too, that's not how life works. And yet. Asahi is not raging on Subaru. Water dragon God does not die and is, in fact, being sent to our world and finds Asahi in the end. And he's fine! And they just... get back together, in her garden. And they live happily ever after, the end. How? how does a god do that? How does their life look like? Will he get a job? Is he human even? Or will she be like a priestess in here, just working by day and living it out with her god-husband in the night? What about her family? Do they find out? What of Kurose and his god? It's all just... flat. Something amazing turned into a usual shoujo mush and fairytales. I feel dissapointed.

Okay, so, I really love this manga. I read all chapters but it was on one another language, but I didn't understand it at all. There are 11 published chapters but there is just 5 translated in moment. I am just in love with the Water God. The whole story is really weird and interesting. The art is beautiful and I enioy reading the manga. I recommend this manga to everyone who likes fantasy and tragedy series. Even if this is not such tragedy. There is genre of romance but this is not really romance series. Yes the God is falling in love with ... her by the time but there isn't something SO romantic about it. So, yeah, you should definitely read this manga, and you'll surely enjoy it!

One of my favorite manga and I'm soo glad I finished reading it. It took me 2 years to read it due to me forgetting about the series and waiting for it to be translated. Anyways this manga is one of those manga that seem interested in the beginning and then you get really attached to the characters themselves until the end of the series. For me this manga gave me that feeling and that's why it so amazing. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me frustrated, tbh i had all kinds of emotions reading it which makes it ... the best as far as I know. Since this is the type of genre where the main heroine goes to another world, its very different and has its own uniqueness in it. If your looking for a manga to read that has this genre then I would definitely recommend it. (If you do read it, then I suggest you grab a tissue box with you at the end)

The ending of this manga was pretty good. For me it was a happy and a sad ending at the same time. Happy becomes she will be with the water dragon, sad becomes she will never see her friends specially Subaru ever again after being together for so many years. I would have like the author to continue the story a little bit more so we can see their future together but nonetheless it was a good ending. Hope we get a sequel or a even a part 2 to this amazing series.

There are no words to describe how much I love this manga. I first found it at, what, midnight one night? And I ended up reading it till 3 o'clock. This is a fantastic manga that just hooks you in right from the start. What's more, SUIJIN IS SO AMAZING I LOVE HIM SO MUCH >w<

Story: When you first start this manga, you think, "Oh, it's just another 'girl who crosses over into another world' manga." But, it may be about that, but it's also so much more. The ... story just keeps you on the edge of your seat, anticipating what's going to happen next. You can't stop reading it. For all those historical romance fans, this is the perfect manga for you. (Like me :'D)

Art: Rei Toma's art style is incredible. Everything is so well drawn and detailed, which is one of the reasons that I love this manga so much :') BLESS YOU SENPAI FOR DRAWING SUIJIN SO HOT <33 And, that may just be because I love guys with long hair, but Suijin is actually beautiful :'D

Characters: I love every single character in this manga. Well, except for the antagonists :v But they help move the story along so I'm not complaining >w> At first, you think, "Wow, Suijin really sucks", but honestly, that's how a god would normally act. Rei Toma just makes every character so realistic. Asahi's reaction to being sucked to this world was incredibly realistic as she was a spoiled child and now she doesn't know anybody in this world. The character development is what made this manga amazing though. Suijin's eventual development to understand humans and Asahi just fills me with so much happiness >w<

Enjoyment: Can you tell? I enjoyed this manga SO MUCH. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS YET I FULLY SUPPORT YOUR DECISION OF READING THIS. This is the only manga that I bought on paperback :'D I own the first two volumes and take them with me eeeverwhere >w< It's probably my favorite manga, right beside Colette ^^ YEAH. I VERY MUCH RECOMMEND THIS MANGA. YOU DEFINITELY WON'T REGRET IT :)
