It is basically a guy who wants to date a girl, but turns out she's manphobic (fear of men). The story is decent to me but the art and characters are really high classes. Btw, this story is not suitable for you who don't like a cross-dressing dude since this thing is a huge plot machine in the story.

Since the story is already finished, imma make a review on this underdog manga.

Story (7): I think it is quite decent, there are not ... many sub-plot in the story. It is basically a straight to the point manga. Of course there's a love triangle inside the plot, but to be honest, it's not that annoying and the girls are really likable for me.

Art (8): Oh boy, the art is really cute. the characters design is making you melt into lava. You can get a powerful waifu material, guaranteed by me. Of course it is good in moe genre, not in general art design. For general, I would say (7).

Character (9): Like I said, the characters are likable, even side characters are really interesting to be relief characters. All MCs are high classes. They are all smart with powerful development in each chapter.

Enjoyment (9): It's a fun ride for me.

Overall (8): I want to give it (9), but I re-consider it since not all characters are explored by the author. This manga has crazy potential in the future if the author wants to make a sequel to it, but it is also fine if he finished it the way now.

Ok so to start my review, i'll tell you all that I was not the least bit thrilled to read a manga about a guy crossdressing.
After getting a few chapters into it, my prejudice was completely blown away. Found this to be one of the cutest manga i have read and finished it in one go.

~~Story~~ (9/10)
The story, as i have mentioned previously, came of as too gay to me from just the synopsis. However, I stuck with it since I wanted to reach the screenshot of a panel from it i saw in a meme. Boy was that a good decision. ... Tired of reading the typical shoujo manga that have stale drama stretching across hundreds of chapters, I needed a good read and Ookami Shounen delivered. The story was well paced in my opinion and was much more realistic than falling in love after a few hundred chapters and then taking another 50 or so to confess *cough* Nisekoi *cough*. However it should be noted that towards the end, the story feels a bit rushed so it loses a point for that.

~~Art~~ (9/10)
In simple terms, the art was great. It wasn't anything too detailed, but the art perfectly matched the story. Not too flowery, nor too detailed. Perfectly balanced (as all things should be).

~~Character~~ (8/10)
Ok so I had mixed feelings about the characters. Some characters i loved and wanted to love and protect them. They had a great story line and past. However, there wasn't a huge focus on the background characters, which was great since that'd necessarily stretch the manga. Other than that, some character tropes felt overused. Even so, I got attached to these wonderful fictional beings and have grown way too attached.

In conclusion, even if you feel your heterosexuality being questioned from reading the synopsis, give it a try. It's a great manga with a nice setting, good art and had my heart clenching and had me squealing like a little girl towards the end.

I really enjoyed reading this manga. Whenever I have free time I read this manga, right from the start the plot was getting better and better. The story was so good! I recommend you to read this manga, it's the best I've ever read so far in my manga history.

I absolutely adore this manga. It has been in the back of my mind for almost a year now and I can't stop coming back to it.
Never has there been a manga to pull me in like this one. Everything from the art style to the characters to the story sits just right and I wish I could read it forever. The visual style is fantastic and the overall story is pretty good and unexpected. Like all works of art, it has it's moments where it makes you raise an eyebrow, but I feel like it is acceptable in the context of lengthening the story. ... I'm sure the writer didn't want to end it so fast, but was running out of ideas towards the end so they had to close it off. This allowed it to finish strong without being watered down with filler.
I hope the mangaka comes out with more original stories like this one because, to me, this is a masterpiece.

Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso wo Kasaneru or, for short, Ookami Shounen is a harmless romantic drama. It almost feels refreshing with the lack of harem shenanigans and. especially, ecchi elements that pervade the romance manga landscape today. Unfortunately, it does nothing special outside of its unique synopsis. Keitarou's gender bending possess no significance except as facilitator for drama. Remove that unique plot point and it turns into your vanilla romance drama. But Ookami Shounen is an entertaining read nonetheless, it has cute moments and flashes of rapport between characters.

The highest praise I could give to this manga is that treats its characters ... as real human beings and give them agency that adds complexity. It enables great interactions between Keitarou, Botan, and Aoi. Unfortunately, its drama is hackneyed and superficial. It does everything competently but nothing great, making it perhaps the poster child of the inoffensive romantic drama (which I feel like is a genre that is almost non-existent). Ookami Shounen is short and it does not drag for long, making it a worthy read for any savvy romance manga fan.

‘The boy who cried wolf tells a lie today also’ that’s a mouthful for its English title. Keitarou is an ordinary student, only dilemma is sinister appearance. Thus leaving him with not many female friends or friends at all. One day making his way to the library, Keitarou notices a girl nodding off in the corner of his eye. Her name is Aoi. As she’s sound asleep, Keitarou approaches her only to be thrown off by her uproar. Aoi has an instant dislike for him even rejecting his proposal to go out with him.

Keitarou is left in shambles, only having his older ‘sister’ to discuss ... the events that had just transpired to him. Unknowingly, his sister plays dress up with Keitarou doing a complete makeover. Now he’s indistinguishable to the naked eye. Keitarou is cross-dressing as a female and he just goes with the flow. Heading into town until stumbling with Aoi, but their conversation differs this time due to the unforeseen circumstances, Aoi doesn’t know that’s even Keitariou. That’s a small synopsis of the beginning.

The story is really straight to the point, frankly only running 34 chapters in total. The art style is incredibly delightful. I love how it looks and the kawaii faces from certain characters like Botan make it all the more enjoyable. Later on a love triangle develops, which ever side your cheering for you can't go wrong. It’s nothing new story-wise but it excels at the romance of things.

This was a short and fun read. I definitely recommend picking it up. The characters were all interesting, the art was pretty good, and the premise felt new and intriguing.

This manga features cross-dressing as one of its plot elements. It didn't have some brilliant statement to make about cross-dressing and gender identity, like "Hourou Musuko" (but I mean seriously, after that read, nothing can really compare). However, it didn't present it in a pervy, titillating way, which I really appreciated. In a way, maybe it is normalizing it, in that the entire focus of the manga isn't on the fact that they cross-dress, it ... is just a plot element, but it also isn't overly disrespectful (and I mean in comparison to other manga dealing with cross-dressing). That's just what I think.

This was just a really solid, and cute love story, there isn't much else to say. I really enjoyed reading it. It wasn't a mind blowing, life changing, experience, but I would recommend anyone who likes SOL/romance to give it a try.

Itsuki is best girl, and anyone who disagrees is a chump.

I just wanted to talk about some stuff that will spoil the story. This is mostly for myself when I look back at the manga I have read, so if you aren't me, stop reading.

Hey me, what was with those unexpected feels? The whole story felt pretty light and cheery, with the only drama being what you would expect in a love story (love triangles and misunderstanding). Sure, Tokujira was scared of men, but that was like, "Oh she'll get over it, its more of a quirk". Then, Blim-Blam-Blow, its hits you harder then her father hit her, and her only friend betrays her to save face. Ouch. My little heart was not prepared for those feels. Also, I am so so so so so so glad that he ends up with Botan. I really thought the story was gearing towards Aoi, despite me cheering for Botan the entire time. It feels like it happens every time, where you get the well rounded, cute girl that likes the protagonist, being shot down for the quirky, barely functioning, weird girl that the protagonist falls for. SO ANNOYING. But best girl got what she deserved this time, and for that, I will bump my score up from an 8 to a 9. I'm also realizing that I front loaded my manga scores, so that almost everything I have read is between a 7 and a 10. I might go back and adjust some scores, or maybe I will try scoring things properly from now on. Anyway, if you read this far, why? And bye.

For a while now I've been trying to figure out why I enjoy this manga so much. Honestly, plot-wise the story isn't groundbreaking and overall it doesn't introduce many new topics or themes to be pondered over. However, I found that where this manga really shines is in it's storytelling ability rather than the story itself.

Now don't get me wrong, the story isn't bad by any means. It's just... nothing special: A guy with scary eyes likes a girl that is hard to approach and ends up cross-dressing to help her with her problems in the hopes that he'll get another chance with ... her. This core setup is then used to tell a story of trust, honesty and letting go of the past. So all in all, nothing terribly fancy but this actually works out to the advantage of the manga: it can tell the story it wants without getting muddled in the details.

The one thing that stood out to me above all else in this was the excellent pacing. This manga was 34 chapters of movement, with no time being spent on distracting side plots or pointless fluff. Each chapter was used to advance the story without going to fast or slow. In a medium where romances will take 30+ chapters to advance to the next level and short fillers make up 1/4th of a volume's length, this was definitely a breath of fresh air.

Pacing aside, the characters are also quite a treat in this manga. Though they may come off as slightly tropey or stereotypical, each character was made in a way so that they all begin with flaws and learn how to overcome them. They own up to the things holding them back and take them head on once they realize it (which really can't be said for a lot of characters in many of the series I've read). Multiple characters also drive the plot which shows the capabilities of all the main cast. Honestly, seeing each one of the main cast grow by itself made this a worthwhile read

The art style used in this manga is also one of the great selling points. It's overall a very cute style that also leaves room for a bit of comedy too. Can't say much more about it other than the fact that I enjoyed it

Overall this manga was great. Even though it's story might not be too crazy, it really shines in pretty much every other aspect. It's a change of pace from the generally slow moving pace of many of the manga on the market today and everything is within the realm of reason. So if you have time for a quick read this manga should definitely be on your list.

I don't normally write reviews and knowing me I'm probably going to accidentally include some light spoilers, so keep that in mind before reading this review.

Honestly, I didn't know what to expect going in. Like, a dude cross dressing to get closer to the girl he likes (who already rejected him) just seemed pretty strange to me. But the characters are actually quite likable to the point where I ended up liking some of the side characters more than I thought I would've, though unfortunately the author didn't really explore the side characters ... all that much.

The story is pretty straightforward and simple, but it just seems to work for me. You can pretty much guess from the beginning how the story is generally going to play out, but it still keeps it enjoyable up until the very end. Though, there were a few unexpected things that happened throughout that made it quite an enjoyable experience. It even got a laugh out of me quite a few times which is pretty rare for me when it comes to manga, so there's that.

The ending itself was also quite a bit different than what I had pictured when I first started reading this, but I actually ended up liking it more than what I was expecting funnily enough.

If I say anymore then I'll definitely end up spoiling it, but I can safely say this manga is certainly worth the read, and I wish it had gotten an anime adaptation. Even a sequel would be nice, but I'm not sure what it would be about to be honest since everything was pretty much wrapped up.

This manga is not about crossdressing. It's not about discovering yourself. It's not about trans issues, or LGBT, or any of that. What it's about is in the title-- a boy who lies, and a simple love story.

I say this only because a criticism levied against the series in certain (unnamed) online circles is it's "shallow" portrayal of "gender identity." Neither premise nor the first chapter promise a dive into such a theme, and if you want to read it primarily because you're interested in that sort of thing, I suggest you either abandon your expectations or put the book down. It's legitimately frustrating when ... readers criticize a series on unfounded grounds, so keep this in mind. Conversely, if crossdressing puts you off, I urge you to read-- as again, the manga is not truly about crossdressing.

It feels like an insurmountable task to properly extoll the literary virtues of this manga without offering heavy spoilers, especially in regards to the romance, which in nearly every metric shatters the cliches and tropes its genre is rife with. There is no status quo, and the characters behave in a mature and understanding manner of one another-- even, perhaps, beyond what's expected of their age. Each of them are memorable, each of them are well-rounded, and each of them feel distinct and alive.

Thematically, the series takes a simple message and blows it up into a glorious dramatic spectacle, equal parts heart wrenching, funny, and swoonworthy (if that term isn't too much). Lying is wrong -- a no brainer, perhaps-- but beyond such a surface level observation, it delves into the damage an individual does to oneself in lying. The general message of eroding trust and being subsumed by guilt is not absent, but it's telling that Kotaro is at his happiest and most successful when being himself and telling the truth, and at his lowest when he lies, despite the obvious advantages he should be gaining considering the circumstances surrounding his lie. In this sense, the manga advocates for honesty not only in speech and communication, but in the way one lives his life in general. The benefits one gains through lying pale in comparison to the joy one feels whilst living in virtue, essentially.

The art is good-- the cover art is fantastic, and there are quite a few stand out panels, but overall, I would peg the artwork as just "good." Its style fits its content, and compliments the story well.

I would heartily recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance at all, to be frank. At just 33 chapters, it makes for a tight, efficiently written, well paced, satisfying read.

And most importantly, it's cute as hell.

While I feel awkward even reading the premise of this manga (I find crossdressing rather strange) , I'm glad to say that I did. It was a fun,engaging read throughout, and I thoroughly enjoyed it (despite my sadness for one of the girls in the ending - no more spoilers than that! The story wasn't the best,but the characters were great and the art was good and that's what I came here for.

It's easy to get invested in the characters, and despite the strange plot (and awkward moment where the TL I read had two of the ... MCs start swearing for a chapter) I thoroughly found myself awaiting more.


I'd highly recommend this for a quick read, being only ~30ch.

Ookami Shounen, or its English title "The boy who cried wolf tells another lie today", doesn't break out of the mold it conveniently settled in, but in spite of its simple plot and incredibly simple characters, I never stopped reading until I was finished.

The situation that the protagonist, Itsuki, gets himself into is intriguing. The premise of a character getting closer to someone through a gender-bend has been done many times before, and this manga doesn't do anything remotely different, but that wasn't much of a problem for me. The artwork is fluffy and nice. The whole cast of characters are enjoyable to read ... about. In summary, Ookami Shounen is a fun romance.

I decided to write this review on the same day I finished the manga, but the honeymoon period will wear off, and I will grow to be more honest. Ookami Shounen does not inspire. The crossdressing aspect only pertains to the main theme of honesty, and honestly, I want more from this genre. It's an easy read, but it's hard to think that it will change me in any way. It's too safe, and thankfully it's not a very long read.

In conclusion, this is probably the weirdest animelist recommendation I've ever had, but also the best of the month, and I don't regret reading it.

The main thing that I love about this manga is that it doesn't really do anything wrong. I can find almost no faults with the presentation, plot, art, pacing or characters. Everything that needs to be there is, and anything that serves no purpose is cut out. The plot follows our MC, who has a scary face so no girls will want to talk to him. He soon falls in love with a girl at his school that doesn't find him scary, but gets flat out rejected when he confesses. After becoming depressed, his brother makes him crossdress and go around ... town where he saves the girl he likes from a few thugs, and ends up trying to help the girl get over her fear of guys. Later, the girl's friend falls in love with the MC while the girl falls in love with the crossdressed form of the MC, leading to tension and serves as the main crux of the plot. Now, while crossdressing does play a major role in the plot, it is not the focus of it, but rather just a tool to set up the main conflict. So for those worried that the story turns into some weird territory, don't worry about it, it's totally tame.

While I'm on the topic of plot, I might as well go over the pacing as well. This manga is a perfect example of what good pacing should look like. Nothing that is introduced doesn't serve a purpose in the story: sometimes it's to show the growing relationship between the MC and the two main girls, sometimes it's to forward the plot, sometimes it's to help the MC reach a conclusion, but all of it is pretty much needed for the story to run as well as it does. Most people tend to hate fillers and the like in romance type stories since a lot of them take forever for developments to occur. This trend is prevalent in shoujo and harem style manga, but it's not something you have to worry about here.

I've only lately been starting to read manga, and I don't know about you guys, but this manga, in my opinion, is very damn wholesome, and very, very cute.

For the story, I think that the plot is pretty simple, but that doesn't get in the way of how the entire story was presented. I can not tell you what the plot is about, but one thing I am certain, that it is going to definitely leave at least a smirk on your face.

For the characters, I simply love each and one of their personality, through the entire manga, I could barely come to dislike or ... hate even one character.

In my opinion, the art is brilliant. I loved every single panel drawn, the art style makes everything so adorable and cute that I wanted to hug the hell out of all of them.

I really enjoyed the entire thing, it's just so fun to read and everything is so enjoyable.

This manga is utter garbage. I cannot for the life of me understand what the other reviews are talking about. It feels like alot came in with low expectations in the first place and were satisfied with this utter garbage of a love triangle story.

Keitarou is a shit protagonist, for a while at the end I thought he finally had potential but NOPE. He's generic as can get, other than the cross dressing gimmick he has nothing worth talking about,

Aoi started off boring and later on remained as such, I warmed up to her but still find her to be heavily one note ... and not that enjoyable to follow without someone carrying her through the chapter. (character wise.) And due to my dislike of Keitarou I found myself not enjoying her or their interactions with eachother,

Botan, jesus fucking christ, Botan. She is so stupid, so overly cutesy that it's annoying, so one note that I wanted to reach into the screen and dump her into trash where she belongs.

"Oh it's so cute" "Oh it's so harmless." "It's not groundbreaking but soooo cute"

When you have nothing genuinely good to say other than the art style being good, it usually means everything else either sucks or had nothing interesting about it in the slightest. Which, yeah, pretty much.

The characters, suck.
The story, sucks.
The romantic development, kind of neat but ultimately not redeeming enough.

Everything about this story is beyond dissapointing, especially since I like the art style too.

Maybe, MAYBE, m a y b e, I would be just as forgiving as the others and leave this story with 5 where it not for the utter horseshit that was the ending.

Do I reccomend it? Well, if you have any standards beyond just "I wanna read something cute and short" no, absolutely not.
