What connects Berserk and Innocent is a minute portrayal of brutality, the horror and at the same time, the banality of evil. Despite one of the works being a fictional fantasy world and the other a story based on real historical events, a feeling of a ruthless naturalism stands out. We can see not only a motif of the protagonist's struggle with the inevitability of fate but also other interesting themes: the hypocrisy and immorality of aristocracy and the clergymen, a woman fighter claiming her independence, etc.

One is a dark fairy tale, the other a beheading historic tale. Both share a keen interest on death, where justice is supposedly found and questioned, more subtlely in Ayeshah's Secret than in Innocent. The realistic art style is also quite similar.

Both are dark, historical stories with a similar operaic feel to them.

Both mangas are historical about France pre-revolution and they even have almost the same characters and historical happenings too, altough one is shoujo and the other is seinen (and a bit gore).

Both are very violent and disturbing historical seinen manga. Both are critiques of fuedal societies which explore free will and class relationships from the perspective of people who are forced to kill people at the wishes of lords (executioners in Innocent, samurai in Shigurui). Both have extremely beautiful artwork and are based off of historical novels. If you like Innocent you should like Shigurui and vice versa, they have a very similar atmosphere and reading experience.

Both share a theme of death. The protagonist of Route End works on cleaning the remnants of dead bodies. The protagonist of Innocent is an executioner.

In "Innocent," Charles-Henri Sanson becomes the executioner of France, forced by his family's tradition. Shinji Ikari from "Evangelion" pilots the Eva units to protect humanity from Angels, because of others wanting him to do it. Initially, both Charles-Henri and Shinji attempt to distance themselves from their roles. They don't want to do it, but they're the only ones who can do it. They need to grow and face their responsibilities. If you enjoyed the inner conflict and struggles of the protagonist from Evangelion or Innocent, then you're probably going to like the other one.

in innocent the mc is fragile and weak, but with each chapter, he grows stronger, his concept changes, sees the world in a different light. in vinland saga, the mc is reckless, brave to a fault, but hes strong gotta give him that. but he also progresses to become wiser and some might say even stronger. they're both graphic. oh and they're both historical with a touch of fiction which is the case for most historical mangas

Both mangas are set in the period of the French Revolution and are with interesting characters, who in one way or another are involved in the revolution, and there is a similar dark and gloomy atmousphere, which depicts the lives of the third class.

Both have death as main theme. In "Death Sweeper", the main character faces a suicide in family and starts work on a job of cleaning death scenes as a mean to overcome his trauma. While in "Innocent", with an impressive art, the darkness beauty of death is portrayed.

- Both are historical mangas, which actually care about ACTUAL history with ACTUAL people (f.e. Pushkin, Tsar Nicholas I ,Charles-Henri Sanson, Marie Antoinette etc.) - Both mangas have a realistic approach on history (no fairies and dragons) - Not only are they actually true to their periods, but they also are inspired or include classic literature - Both mangas have two main characters - a man and a woman - The French Revolustion have impact in both mangas, thought its less in Bronze no Tenshi because it is setted in Russia - They are set in similar time period, even thought Innocent is  read more

These seinens are set in the time in France leading up to and including the French Revolution and both deal with the subject of law, crime, and punishment being out of order due to the differences in the different classes of society with that society and those problems as the backdrop that these men are up against. Both are true seinens showing the injustice of the society. Innocent is more graphic as it deals with an executioner having to deal with his conscience for the things he has to do for his job, while Jean ValJean in Les Miserables is  read more
