These seinens are set in the time in France leading up to and including the French Revolution and both deal with the subject of law, crime, and punishment being out of order due to the differences in the different classes of society with that society and those problems as the backdrop that these men are up against. Both are true seinens showing the injustice of the society. Innocent is more graphic as it deals with an executioner having to deal with his conscience for the things he has to do for his job, while Jean ValJean in Les Miserables is
