What high school boys do and talk about in school is truly rainbow-colored. From holiday plans to relationship breakups, then escalating to sexual preferences; Nijiiro Days (Rainbow-Colored Days) delivers this naturally through the daily lives of four high school boys.

The true value of this manga, in my personal opinion, lies very deeply in the characters itself rather than on the story (I will explain later down). Unlike many other mangas out there, Nijiiro Days juggles romance and comedy equally from a glance, but I would say it is dependent on which character is the focus. If you're looking for something relaxing and casual, ... then this pot of gold will certainly shine brightly in your eyes.

Going down the categories:

Story (8/10)
When you deconstruct this manga by its categories, there are mountains of other mangas out there that will certainly outclass Nijiiro Days in terms of story. To put it short, Nijiiro Days has a very typical storyline; Four high school boys, things happen around their everyday school life, sounds pretty standard and nothing too fancy. It could be said that the story development is slow but I'd say its a positive aspect because it doesn't force the story to become unnaturally paced.

Characters (10/10)
The characters in Nijiiro Days are what makes the manga shine through the others in the same category. Each character has their own personality and trait, different preferences and desires. The chemistry that comes out when these are mixed in with a healthy high schooler friendship is well, a heap of unexpected surprises. As the story progresses, the characters further develop as many of the chapters specifically focus on one character rather than the whole group. These characters are all likable by their distinctive trait and even the side characters are developed deep enough to be recognized.

Art (9/10)
Art styles used are very clean and distinct. It is pleasant to look at for long durations and facial expressions are conveyed brilliantly. Occasionally the style changes a bit according to the atmosphere of the story.

At first, I took a plunge into darkness, judged this book by its cover and bought it from Kinokuniya (The front cover was designed well and the texture was smooth compared to other mangas). I read the first page and didn't stop reading it until I reached the end. I was so captivated by the characters that I went to preorder the remaining volumes that were released and read all that within a day. I strongly do recommend this manga, the characters and comedy that it offers is just spectacular. Overall it is very enjoyable, pure and refreshing.

The manga is labeled as a shoujo, but it definitely doesn't feel like one. 99% of the shoujos today are drama-heavy, but not Nijiiro Days.

Nijiiro days is a nice lighthearted & romantic story about 4 friends. Each being completely different in personality, yet their interactions are so natural and friendly.

The story follows their friendship as well as their love lives, with Natsuki's being the most prominent.

It's nothing new, but that's what makes it so perfect. We don't need a shoujo manga trying to be creative by thinking up a new way to create drama. Romance may be like that in real ... life, but we already got plenty of those stories, so why can't we just have a nice refreshing story about the positives of love and friendship rather than the negatives?

There may be some drama here and there, but it’s always short-lived. You might even forget that there was drama in the first place because of how sweet the manga is.

Nijiiro days is just a simple yet heart-warming story about friendship and love without all of the unnecessary drama.

Art: 9

The art is good, but in shoujo standards, it’s freaking amazing. Unlike most shoujo manga, the female protagonist’s eyes aren’t drawn to be as circular as possible. The men are handsome and the women are beautiful. You could probably even pass this off as a shounen. The art is so good, you barely see a trace of shoujo.

Characters: 9

The 4 main male characters are portrayed in a way that each of them are supposed to be the different kind of guys, we tend to see as protagonists.

Our first character is Natsuki, he’s actually quite the opposite of the shoujo protagonists, we see today. Instead of being a narcissistic douche-bag, he’s a kind and naive boy with a maiden’s heart. Put a wig on him and bam, he’s your run of the mill shoujo female lead. He’s much more adorable and less irritable though.

Next, we got his 3 best friends, Tsuyoshi Naoe a.k.a Tsuyo-pon, Keiichi Katakura, & Tomoya Matsunaga.

Tsuyo-pun is an intelligent otaku with a frank personality. Despite being an otaku, he doesn’t look dorky and he gives off a cool vibe not a creepy nerdy vibe. At times, he serves as comic relief as he can never sense the atmosphere.

Keiichi, like Natsuki, is just looking for someone to love. Sadly for him, not many girls wanna date a sadist. His sadism is more of a hobby rather than a personality issue. He’s not sadistic 24/7, only when he’s role-playing with the girl he likes. With that being said, he’s really a good kid that just has a common fetish.

The last friend is Tomoya Matsunaga, a handsome playboy. I tend to hate characters like him, but he’s different. He may be a playboy, but he truly is a nice guy. Not to mention, out of all the characters, I’d say Matsunaga has gone through the most character development. Early on, he already starts seeing past his play boy ways and develops a genuine affection for someone. Now, we see Matsunaga only trying to get closer to that girl.

As for the female side, we got Anna Kobayakawa as our main female protagonist. This girl is a goddess. She doesn’t act like a typical shoujo female lead. She’s not boy crazy nor is she a drama queen. She’s just a sweet and caring girl who wants nothing more than to get along with everyone. Her only drawback is, she’s a bit dense. But worry not! There is actual romantic progression within the first 30 chapters, you’ll just have to be patient.

Her best friend, on the other hand, is arguably one of the worst parts of the story. Tsutsui Mari hates boys and doesn’t want any guy getting close to Anna because she has a love for her that she deems as beyond friendship. These characters always scream “annoying” and unfortunately, Mari isn’t an exception. You could say she’s part of the reason for slow romantic development. She really has nothing better to do than cock-block Natsuki and cling to Anna. Thanks to the other characters though, she’s slowly becoming less and less of an insufferable person. I can tell that eventually she’ll grow to be a likable person, we’ll just have to wait for the guys to break more and more of her shell.

The rest of the cast is likable too. They’re all cute in their own way. We got Tsuyo-pon’s cosplay loving girlfriend, Yukiko Asai, and Keiichi’s older brother who is a teacher and happens to be just as sadistic as Keiichi. I’m sure as time goes on, we will be introduced to even more characters we can come to love.

Are you perhaps depressed due to a previous manga or just looking for a manga to fill up the hole in your heart? If so, then I prescribe you Nijiiro Days as a remedy. Nijiiro Days is a ray of sunshine in a field of exaggerated drama, angsty female leads, and arrogant male leads. This manga will not fail to put a smile on your face and leave you all fuzzy and warm inside.

I don't write many reviews, but Nijiiro Days definitely deserved it, so here goes:

Nijiiro Days is a lighthearted story about the everyday lives, (and romances), of 4 friends. Its premise makes it seem like your typical romance slice of life series, but there are many contributors which make Nijiiro Days stand out far above the rest.

Story: 10
The story of Nijiiro Days is quite simple, its about a boy who falls in love with a girl, and with the help of his friends, tries to get closer to her. Pretty straightforward. But the way the author elevates this basic premise, is what truly gets you invested. ... Avoiding spoilers; the author manages to convey many smaller scale stories under the ongoing main story, without overcomplicating things. It gives many its characters their own story, not just completely focusing on the "main couple". There definitely are subplots that drift away from the main driving story, but that never becomes an issue. Because the thing is, at its best, Nijiiro Days is really a story about friendship and growing older, the romance aspects are just a beautiful garnish on top. Transitioning through tough moments and big life choices, with the help of the family you’ve formed on the path towards adulthood. All the individual stories are all connected, and they all intertwine with each other to create this beautiful picture. In the end, that's what differences Nijiiro Days from the countless other romance high school dramas. And in a very good way as well.

For the art to be done well is something that is very necessary in a manga, which heavily relies on the visuals to support the story. For art in a manga to be good, the artist has a very difficult job of not only translating the words into drawings, but having to portray the feelings of the characters as well. Its very important to be able to see emotion, as many times it helps us readers connect with the story on a deeper level. And I gotta say, the artist here did a truly wonderful job at doing that. Every time a character spoke, I could not only read the words, but the images as well. I could tell what a character was feeling, whether they were hiding it on the inside or not.

Character: 10
I can say with utmost certainty, that the thing I enjoyed most about Nijiiro Days was its characters. The story presents us with a very diverse selection of characters, each representing quite common character "tropes", (maybe minus the sadist). This allows for all sorts of interactions, keeping you invested in even the little things. The chemistry between all these different characters is portrayed exceptionally well by the author, and the characters simply interacting as a group create some of the most enjoyable moments in the series. Another thing is the Character Development. In most slice of life stories, there is little to no character development, as these realistic stories lack those "major events", which are often used to trigger development in a fictional character. Without spoiling anything, Nijiiro Days manages to give us character development which is both natural and realistic, and quite often, relatable. Usually with a large cast, it is difficult to connect with multiple characters, as they tend not to get fleshed out individually. But here I found myself relating to almost all the characters multiple times; making me to not only invest in the story, but in these characters, allowing the story elements to hit harder. Nijiiro Days did a truly phenomenal job at portraying its characters.

You can probably tell from everything I've said up to now, that I truly enjoyed this. No need to further say anything in this department.

In the end, Nijiiro Days was truly a game changer in the romance-drama genre for me, and I hope to see similar takes on other stories in the future. I 100% recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance or even just friendship stories!

I read the whole manga today (slow day at work, hah) and overall, it was a good read.

But, it didn't live up to my expectations.

One of its strongest points is that it fleshes out our main 4 dudes, where in many other romance anime/manga the relationship of the mains take over and the characters remain undeveloped, and we even got 4 love interests for each of them!

But.... Just because we got potential love interests doesn't make the manga immediately good. Seems like they went very hard on the main 4 dudes stories and development, the romance was actually forgotten behind.

Throughout the manga it makes you ... feel as though the romance and relationships between the guys and girls are what's important, but at the end of the day it was very lacking.

So many chapters where we didn't even see our mains Anna and Natsuki, let alone seeing Anna at all.

We might've gotten a lot of development of the main male characters, and a bit of Nozomi and Mari but I feel like Yukirin and especially Anna were left out from the development cycle. Which kinda sucks.


The characters were nice as a cast, they interacted well with each other and I think it made a very nice chemistry between all of them.

The story in itself wasn't really anything interesting, a pretty generic school romance.

Overall I will say- If you're looking for a hard romance, this is a tricky one, because it makes you feel like it is, but it isn't. If you're looking for a lighter romance with "Friendship power", this is a good manga to read.

As you can see I've given this manga a pretty good review. Nijiro Days or Rainbow Days is a really good manga. Though I have only read 49 chapters I can safely tell you that it's something that I recommend.

This story truly deserves a 10/10. It is beautiful how the relationship between the four boys is built while still having all of them have separate personalities, stories, loves, and just overall lives. I also do like how they each have their own love lives and how that effects the story as well. The balance of comedy, romance, seriousness, and friendship is absoulutly perfect. ... This is also labeled as a romance shoujo manga which I do agree with for the most part. Though I don't know if it's just shoujo romance is definitely there with all the characters especially the main character, Natsuki whose love live has a huge impact on the story.

Art 9/10
The art for this is pretty basic and appealing to the eye. As much as I did enjoy it, it wasn't anything too special which is why I'm giving it a 9/10. I don't have much else to say on this topic so thats about it.

Characters 10/10
The characters all are perfectly written. All of them have great character development as well as personalities. I cannot help but love all of them, including characters like Mari who I typically wouldn't like. Its also hilarious how they all have pretty different personalities but get along so well. We have Natsuki a sweet, innocent, and emotional boy, Kei-chan a cool, athletic guy who is nice but also a sadist, Matsunaga a women loving, outgoing, loud character. Finally we have Tsuyoshi a quiet Otaku who isn't very honest with his feelings and can't be trusted to read the atmosphere. As for the girls, Yukiko is Tsuyoshi's girlfriend, She is a cosplayer and is pretty loud and outgoing. Anna, Natsuki's love interest, a dense, quiet and overall adorable character, there is also Mari her best friend who is a man hating, loud tsundere. All the supporting characters are also quite easy to remember and loveable. Overall they are all great characters who you can't help but fall in love with. I know I rambled a lot when it came to this but I simply couldn't help myself.

I really enjoyed reading this manga. I couldn't help but laugh, feel sad, feel happy and overall just be swayed emotionally by each character and chapter. You can't stop yourself from enjoying this and being swept up in this story. I feel like just anyone can like this manga.

I've said pretty much everything I have to say, This is one of my all time favourite manga so far and I will be sure to keep up with the chapters. I 120% recommend this manga ESPECIALLY if you're someone who has recently begun reading manga since I can guaranty that you'll find yourself hooked in no time.

The series is not bad, but is not great, either. I like some of the characters and I especially like the friendship between the four main characters. The series is lighthearted and has some comedic moments, but I find the comedy lacking overall. However, the one character I do not like is Natsuki, who seems to have to most allotted time in the series and his romantic feelings. It was cute at the begging, but now it has become annoying. He has spent time with his crush for over a year and his three friends have supported and helped him ... confess to his crush. Most of the time he is content, but only acts when someone else is interested in his crush. It reminds me of kids when they have a toy, but do not play with it, until another kid begins playing with their toy. Natsuki's main love rival was the same for a while. This was probably the first time when I was rooting for the love rival to get the girl, because Natsuki's waiting became annoying. Some of the other characters seems to have better romantic stories, than Natsuki and Anna. Yet, the main focus is on the internal monologue of Natsuki and Anna and how they feel about each other, but never say to each other.

I really enjoyed the manga, and this is my first time writing a review. To be honest, some parts of the manga's pacing were too slow and it got quite boring for me, I mean, just get to the point you know?

However, now that I've finished the manga, I just felt like I genuinely enjoyed every single bit of it. It's quite funny in my opinion and all the characters have some unique traits and personality. The way they interact with each other seems like how I used to talk and hang out with my friends back then, really makes me feel the sense of ... realism (though I would definitely say these type of conversations aren't really normal).

I have no complaints about the art, seems nicely done. Looks good I'd say so myself, just looks like something that would come from a shoujo manga. Actually, this is a shoujo manga if I think hard about it (woops getting off track).

I'd recommend you read this manga, I actually enjoyed it. It's just something that gives me a good laugh after a tiring day, something that takes my mind off of things.

My preferences might be different from many of you, but I think no matter what you say, I'll still like this manga. Its very nice <3

Overall I give this a straight 9/10, GREAT!

I found it so refreshing to read a Shoujo manga that didn't center around girls and their school life antics. It was nice to read something that showed that boys had thoughts and problems just like girls do, because we're all the same!

Story:
Cute, cute, cute! Let's face it, we almost all read these types of manga to get all squeaky and fake happy cry when our ship goes canon. Thats exactly what this anime did for me. The characters are typical, but you see them in a new light, no one is mysterious and we don't know what ... they're thinking. We get to see a side of everyone and it doesn't centter around a single couple or person.

Art:
The art is quite typical of shoujo manga, but the typical is still really good and way better than most normal people can do so..yeah.

Anyways, this is a definite must for shoujo lovers.

Nijiiro Daya is highly recommended to read but I'll just just keep my review short and simple.

Most would think at first glance that this might be BL because of these four handsome guys on the cover but no it isn't. In fact, nijiiro days is a typical slice of life story about boys in high school and of course their funny love experiences and dilemmas in school.

The plot is pretty generic like any slice of life and shoujo manga you read. However, you'll be fascinated by the characters in the manga which is the best thing here. You'll gonna love their personalities and interactions so ... as their friendship. And if you're into romcom genre, then this will surely give you satisfaction and it's a multi-pairing as well!! You won't find this hard to read since the art is certainly pleasing to the eyes especially when you see the characters if you know what I mean.

The manga has ended and I did not regret on reading this. Again, Nijiiro Days is highly recommended to read and certainly, you won't regret it as well when you read this.

The manga has a great start and a pleasant development. However, in my opinion, it falls a lot from the mid to end of the story.

For a story that has romance as its central theme, it suffers from the same problem that we see in many other series categorized under that genre: It basically stops following the relationship when the characters get together.

This manga especially chooses to change entirely the focus on the last chapters to high schoolers' problems instead of developing the new-formed relationships (that btw took longer than needed to be established). The extra chapters make up only a tiny bit for ... it. (if they weren't there, it would be truly preposterous, how can you end your plot like that???)

Despite that, it still was worth some good laughs and heartwarming moments.

Given that, if you like to see the later parts of a romance not only the lead-up and confession, you will probably be disappointed with this one.
