Futatsu no Spica, which opens in 2024, and Uchuu Kyoudai, which opens in 2025, provide two different futures of Japan's space program. One portrays the journey toward space as something that has had setbacks because of tragic events, while the other portrays it as the culmination of continuous advances. However, both also portray space travel as a dream that can come true in spite of the challenges that the characters face. Both works are also heartwarming in their characterization and in their message: that one can become stronger to overcome the past and move toward the future.

Both share a story focused around sci fi themes as well as sharing an emotional focused story as well too.

Both are supernatural based stories with a focus on relationships as well as a cheerful female mc who makes the best out of any situation she is in. And also really nice art and character designs to look at.

Space. The destination of dreams and glory. Humans. The curious pathfinders. Friends. The companions with whom we share ourselves.

Children of the Sea and Twin Spica are two fairly slow-paced seinen manga that centers around a young girl and the supernatural beings she meets. I mean it when I said slow-paced; it's enough to give the reader plenty of time to notice the unique and wonderfully drawn artwork that evokes a iyashikei-esque feel all over, and you can simply relax with lots of large panels devoted to scenery and carefully shaded character art. Both main characters also seem like similarly "strange" girls in terms of personalities.

Both are fantastic coming of age stories, the best two I've ever read, with fantastic characters and a story that will awaken the dreamer in all of us. They both even have awesome ghost mentors!

Both series are by Kou Yaginuma. In Twin Spica, Asumi's mother dies when Asumi was young; in Gunryoku no Jiu, young Rintarou's father recently died.

Both stories proceed at a leisurely pace. Both have a relaxed, slightly melancholic feel to them. Both have an SF setting emphasizing on the "S". There's also some resemblance in art and character designs.

Heartwarming manga with different settings but both are about friendship and with similiar coming of age elements.
