Futatsu no Spica, which opens in 2024, and Uchuu Kyoudai, which opens in 2025, provide two different futures of Japan's space program. One portrays the journey toward space as something that has had setbacks because of tragic events, while the other portrays it as the culmination of continuous advances.
However, both also portray space travel as a dream that can come true in spite of the challenges that the characters face. Both works are also heartwarming in their characterization and in their message: that one can become stronger to overcome the past and move toward the future.
Obviously, both of them are about characters that have dreams of becoming astronauts and going through training to become one, though there is a lot more to this recommendation than just that. They are both life stories about the people you meet along the way and the struggles that you must overcome. These include the friends that you make, the family that support you, the mentors that provide you with guidance and those that stand against you and your dreams. These two manga contain a lot of tragic scenes in addition to multiple heart-warming scenes. I think fans of Space Brothers would enjoy the shorter,

Two stories with characters that dream to become astronauts and show the process of becoming one, the drama in those series are very emotional and nicely handled and it's very easy to root for their objectives.
