So I'm typing this review right after I finished this manga, and let me tell you what, this manga lost all everything in 1 chapter towards the end. It completely ruined everything they had built up that they could have done more with for some twisted weird ending that I didn't care much for. But that's juts me, maybe you'll like it... maybe
Story:

Although simply six chapters so far, this monthly manga shows serious promise.
The mangaka Takemiya, Yuyuko famous for adapting the light novel toradora into a very nice manga differentiating itself from the anime does a good job once again of establish differences between characters and how these opposites can attract. The story is relatively simple but yet the art and the way it is presented although with not too much detail yet due to the length is quite enjoyable. Yoshimatsu Hotaka is a boy with a rather dark past, he isnt open to many people at all and he always looks at this one girls he ... Oct 18, 2018

A nothing-out-of-the-ordinary manga club president, Yoshimatsu Hotaka, always enjoys his time to take a peek from the club's window to Awaya Niki, the Swimming Club Girl's Ace. Awaya Niki has athletic figure and enchanting face that make her known and admired to all of the students in the school. For being so perfect, Hotaka can't bear to take a step to even greet her, instead he chooses to be a secret admirer of her. But, the fate seems to say otherwise, for both of their longing soul.

Honestly, this gave me mixed feelings.
Story: 8 The start of the story was intriguing, with the protagonist having a cliche crush towards a popular girl and portraying their own personal troubles within the first few chapters. The flow of the story was chill, flecks of comedy really upped the ranking. The set up for the story was definitely enjoyable, seeing how Hotaka's and Niki's interest towards each other built up was cute. Story telling was pleasant and poetic, it was very unique in that aspect. I think around the final volumes was when the manga had rushed to reveal truth about the characters and their ... Dec 15, 2018 Story: Overall pretty great as expected from Takemiya Yuyuko-sensei, Expect for the plost twist that was pretty obvious to happen (which i didn't like) so i wasn't really surprised about it. Art/Character Design: pretty good, especially Awaya Niki's character design. Enjoyment: On the enjoyment part... if you happen to not like "incest" then i wouldn't recommend this. Since there's a part in the story where two of the characters (not gonna say who for the sake of not spoilinh too much.) Find out that they're actually related by blood when they finally when on their first date. Overall: I highly recommend it if you love "Toradora!"/Love Takemiya-sensei's works. Feb 25, 2019
The most honest review you will find about this one manga. It really follows through on the tragedy, no one physically dies but I promise you two characters hearts die and most likely you heart will also die, maybe a lot maybe a little.
The story is about a boy who I would say is somewhat gloomy meets the #1 chick in the school and she says yes. They both undoubtedly love each other and regardless of what you hear in other reviews and in the story believe me they love each other. They cant be together, or else it would be a travesty of ... tl;dr: A manga that's mostly standard melodrama filled rom com, while slowly building up to a pretty intense and interesting finale.
This manga for the most part it's a pretty standard drama filled romcom where no one understands each other and misunderstand each other's feeling leading to bouts of melodrama. I could sympathize with how much of a pessimistic insecure wreck the protagonist was but it didn't feel like there was much there in terms of character development. I also liked moments of Niki a great deal where she was quite cool, but overall thought she was a bit flat as well. Of the side characters, I also liked On's personality and her character in general, though I didn't ... Aug 13, 2020
I really like the story and I would give it a 8 In general. Why? I saw many negative comment about this manga but personally I think this manga deserve better than that. This manga is really underrated, I came here because I really love Yuyuko Takemiya story (Toradora!, Golden time...).
It is true, the ending is not what we expected, the ending is not very clear. They were hiding their relationship but for what reason? 1. Because they are brother and sister so it would be very awkward if people know brother and sister were couple? 2. Because they are still couple, they still love each ... Apr 25, 2021
This is a case of a manga that had potential but needed more time to be fleshed out, it seems that this got axed because by the second half of the story it was rushing to the end with a lot of moments that needed more build-up to be impactful, however, while the ending wasn't great, I think this is overall a fun read especially since it's a short read with only 23 chapters, it has good moments and good art with good shot composition and I think that makes it worth reading even if the ending isn't great, but at least it's not outright

I've struggled with how to evaluate and rate Evergreen. I'm a fan of Yuyuko Takemiya's writing, and we see elements of her skill in this story, but there are several flaws that drag down the quality of the experience. That being said, there is one component of this manga which I think is largely above reproach: the artwork. Akira Kasukabe did a great job, especially with character design.
I think the main problem from which most others stem in this story is the character writing. Most of the characters were given reasonable attention. On and Shunsuke are amusing and surprisingly deep (given the relatively short length ... Dec 19, 2023
While I think I did overall enjoy this and think it tackled it's major themes presented, I think the ending was seriously rushed. I feel like when the big reveal happens, Niki turns 180. Then turns another 180 when the MC rescues her from the cabin. It's like Niki didn't have time to properly develop into her own character if that makes sense. The way she acted was understandable but I feel like we needed a deeper dive into her head. Also, I feel like the ending is extremely rushed. Yes, it gets its point across but it would be nice to have the two

A very traditional Japanese ending. Manga and anime of today are huge jokes right now (well, at least they're good for escaping reality), but sometimes mangakas create rare gems like this one.
The initial plot really softened the reader up while leaving clues for the eventual ending of the story. In retrospect it was a little obvious, but the build-up was pretty enjoyable and the art was very well-drawn. If I had to compare the ending with some other manga, I would compare it to "Velvet Kiss" (totally recommend it, but it's low-key softcore). Both had very succinct and bittersweet endings that leaves things open for the ... |
