Empyreal Cabinet sets out to be a great new gen manga with absolutely outstanding worldbuilding from the very first chapter. It centers around Toya Tatsumori, a young Spellcaster and a member of a special unit of exorcists protecting their country from supernatural threats. It may sound generic on paper, but I assure you it is not your average battle shonen. What makes this one stand out from the multitude of exorcist/anti-monster corps manga that we're getting nowadays is its resemblance to a… political thriller. Empyreal Cabinet has a unique focus on the inner workings of the Spellcaster society: a major part of each chapter is

dedicated to exploring things like faction dynamics within the Spellcasters' government, the ways that the Exorcism Bureau and other organizations operate, their chain of command, etc. It lets the reader delve deep into the dark and dangerous world of the arcane, filled with shady politics, conspiracy, betrayal, and brutal power struggles, while also leaving enough space for usual battle shonen action and character development. The art, contrary to what some people online have said, is also great in my opinion. While not best-in-class, it definitely surpasses most of the current SJ+ lineup.
If you enjoyed Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, you will probably enjoy this one as well. And if you ever wondered how a Game of Thrones scenario would look like in this type of setting, then Empyreal Cabinet is a must-read for you.
