If I could get a dime every time I’ve read a romance manga about repeating the same day, then I would have two dimes. Not a lot, but it’s weird hat this happened twice; with that being said, I’ll try to refrain from comparing them too much [The Long Summer on August 31], but I quite like this — to say the least, I find this much more beautiful due to how dark and unsettling the approach is.
Not to say that I hate “The Long Summer on August 31” because that is also an awkwardly wholesome story, but this manga, like noted before, takes
...
a much darker route and a not-in-your-face explanation regarding the story.
Accustomed to the mysterious narrator/mc commentating on every rhyme and reason on how he got to a specific point, a story loses all of its mystique — but I’m happy to say that this does not do that in regards to storytelling. The storytelling leaves out details here and there, but it hints just enough to understand what is happening in the story, and what the readers, us, should expect from it, and it is no less than beautiful.
As for the characters, the mc specifically is a bit self-insert-like with a bland personality, but it does add a bit to the story with how detached he is from the unchanging world, creating a further immersion. The fmc is also no Less than beautiful and deep, but she isn’t boring, which is always nice.
As much as I praise this manga, I do find some issues with how the panels are arranged/told — though the storytelling is great, there are periods of awkwardness in transitions, but it’s still beautiful and enjoyable.
You guys know this is just my opinion, right?
