It's mainly similar because of their near eastern settings, with references to "One Thousand and One Nights". And they are both shounen, adventure, fantasy, with some action.

The stories take place in a historical setting, the artworks are pretty good. The main characters are strong, independent and really intelligent! (they're both strategist and their plan are like OOOOHH DAMN!) There's also a political plot and war going on even though they may differ a bit. Awesome characters can't miss it ><

Shokoku no Altair and Arslan Senki adapts war themes but also expands beyond that with affairs involving other conflicts not directly related to military. Both series crafts a story with thought provoking ideas with a cast of colorful characters.

Both manga are set in variations of the Ottoman Empire. They have a strong historical flavor, with emphasis on politics. Altair is focused on soldiers, so it has a stronger emphasis on warfare, while much of the drama of Drops Of Dreams takes place in the imperial harem. That said, both feature plenty of action and intrigue.

Both of them are fantasy action series that take place in historical inspired settings. Both of them have a crew of characters that the main character gradually "recruits" along the way. Both of them have very well refined and delicate art styles. In both these series, the main characters get a lot of development and grow along with all of the other characters that join, creating a beneficial relationship where everyone gets to discover new perspectives about the world as they travel together. Both of them have main characters that are very dedicated to their nations and love the people of the nation dearly. The characters face hardships on their  read more

Firstly both are historical for you damn maniacs :P Both talk about a war between tribes and how the main character is the "key" in winning it (duh he's the main character = =). Horizon have more violence and battles than Shokoku no Altair which focus more on strategies. In short :Stories about how on man changed the course of history.

As their story progresses, we also learn the backgrounds of the nations that are involved in conflicts and their purpose in fighting.

Known for their war themes, both series adapts a creative story with a strong focus on military and kingdoms. The main characters from both series possesses tactical and military experience involved in their countries. These countries' peace breaks apart as war becomes inevitable with each other. There's a strong degree of tactical warfare in both series involving strategies and planning. And in addition, there's adequate portrayal of action to illustrate the brutality of war. Finally, expect some political conflicts that exists in both series as well when it comes to their nation/kingdom's affairs. Recommended for fans of military/war fiction.

A military theme series taking place in an alternate history. I recommend both series for anyone interested in world building and a story with a warfare themes. Both series' main characters also experienced in strategic warfare that dominates a good run on the battlefield. Expect plenty of action beyond just the typical battle shounen norms. With its ability to articulate warfare, both series masterfully create a story of military conflicts and thought provoking world setting.
