These 2 manga are the founders of the mecha genre, and they heavily influenced almost all super robot manga/anime that came afterwards (including Neon Genesis Evangelion, G Gundam, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann). They have a very similar-looking art style and overall feeling. They're both relatively light-hearted, but they have plenty of GAR, manliness, and hot-blooded mecha pilots. If you want to see what early mecha manga/anime was like, go read either one of these manga.

Shin Mazinger Zero was a Mazinger manga not made by Go Nagai , but the story and art is really good , plus the so called Shin Mazinger Z anime is noting like the manga , give it a read if you like the Getter Robo manga

Getter Robo is the prototype to Evangelion and probably one of the most important mecha stories written. Pitting kids piloting a mech against monsters who seek the total elimination of humanity, Getter Robo pioneered some of the key elements of Evangelion. Some of the Getter Robo monsters seemed to resemble Angels (specifically Sachiel and Gaghiel) -- perhaps Anno and co. were inspired by Getter Robo for these Angels?

Berserk and Getter have a similar energy and dark tone, with protagonists that aren't exactly the normal type of hero. Besides that, the two series have some crazy monsters design and the feeling of fight against something much bigger than you.

If you want hot blooded main characters who will stop at nothing to defeat the enemy and an array of badasses characters that all have the skills to kill giant monsters than you should read getter. It's aot with mechs.
